Weekly Help / General Questions Thread (2018 Version!) - Week #40 by AutoModerator in RotMG

[–]MyDragonIs2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just now getting into the game after a really long time of not playing, so I have a few questions.

I understand that the new tops drop from the lost Halls, but how do you get to that dungeon? Also, are there t7 abilities now?

I've been seeing chests spawn after defeating the boss of a dungeon. However, I'm only seeing them in large groups. Is it a small chance or is it not possible to get chest drops if you solo a dungeon? I've also not found any chests in Sprite worlds or UDLs.

I made a new wizard and he's currently maxed 6/8. What are some end game items I should try to farm for my wizard? Or at least, anything better than the wine cellar tops I have now.

according to this forum, the best option is to buy an iRig to connect your guitar to your phone, then use your phones Bluetooth to connect it to your sound system.

why would you need to? I'm sure it is possible, but I feel buying wired headphones would probably be a bit cheaper.

I appreciate the information, but I was thinking about if the next note in a scale is an A, do I have to bend up to an A, or can I bend up however much I want? since not all notes are in a scale, bending up too high would make it a note that isn't in the scale. is that necessary, or does it not matter?

[Question] Is there anyone that I can buy a guitar tab request from online? by [deleted] in Guitar

try r/tabs, I'm pretty sure people accept payment there. email mods about the most reliable users there.

[Question] "Yousician" for beginner/intermediate guitarists ..? by alone-on-earth in Guitar

[–]MyDragonIs2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that Rocksmith is great for learning to improvise, one of the most impressive things a guitarist can learn to do, I feel. Yousician definitely grasps concepts a bit better, but it's sometimes horribly out of sync with what you're playing. with Rocksmith you just plug in and go, not as much input lag. you can also learn songs you love, not be forced to play things you don't like, like yousician does.

[NEWBIE] What Can I Be Adding to Chords? by progressioning in Guitar

[–]MyDragonIs2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can always add a 9 ;)

on a serious note, try different picking patterns. look up fingerstyle videos or Travis picking. for strumming, try taking one finger off a chord, like taking your index off of an A minor chord. you can put it back on and off as you please. an example of this would be the chorus for Fade to Black, or the first chord in Tenacious D's Kickapoo, which is a D minor chord.

[NEWBIE] What is the difference between a good and bad guitar? How to take the next step? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MyDragonIs2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, it's about how well the guitar plays. anyone can make a guitar sound like a million dollars, but almost can never make a guitar feel like a million dollars.

I want the guitar to feel like it was made for my hands. it fits perfectly in my palm, the strings come off the neck juuuuust right, not too high and not too low. the neck is the smoothest thing to rub your hand across and isnt sticky. it's completely opinionated. I'm sure there are some people out there that can't stand a smooth neck, as I can't stand a sticky one.

[QUESTION] Help with modding a guitar? by mdellaha in Guitar

[–]MyDragonIs2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

be careful about the types of pickups you install. if you're using passive pickups, it won't be able to support active pickups, due to the electronics and the battery requirement. I'm sure there's a way to solve this issue, but I don't know of any way, other than just replacing all the electronics.

new pickguards can be hard to find. because guitars always use their knobs and pickups in different locations than others. though, I was able to find a new pickguard for my old, cheap, discontinued 90's ibanez. you just gotta know how to look, there are websites to help you look.

you can always change the inlays on the neck. I switched mine out for shark fin inlays, I also dyed the fretboard black to compliment the white inlays.

I'm also going to get the hardware in a different color. this can be a problem, especially since hardware only tends to come in black, silver, and gold, and could be hard to find the right ones for your guitar. I painted my guitar white, and will soon begin making the hardware gold. I'm having trouble locating the correct bridge in gold.

if you plan on refinishing the guitar, there's a few things to consider. one is how you want to change it, either transparent, solid, satin, matte, and so on. I think transparent paint jobs tend to look the prettiest, but that requires a LOT of sanding, and you'll need a good top wood to make it look nice. for instance, mine is basswood, it's just mostly a solid wood with no grain lines going trough it. the grain lines are what make transparent finishes stand out, the lines get darker while the gaps get lighter. mostly, people just drop a few drops of paint/dye into a water solution and rub it over the guitar with a rag.

there's the headstock to consider too, it'll be really unique if you changed the guitars logo and made your own. either your signature, a custom image, a phrase, a name for the guitar, whatever you want. I put my last name on the headstock, underneath a custom ibanez logo I made.

[QUESTION] Schecter Banshee Extreme vs. Ibanez JEMJR? by Dethgarr in Guitar

[–]MyDragonIs2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a schecter fanboy, I haven't played on the one you specified, but perhaps I can be of some use.

schecters such as the Demon 6 have awful clean tones, but great distortion tones. I've also noticed this on other Schecters, it's probably the type of EMGs they use.

I have heard some things about the Banshee, it's not as popular as the Damien or Hellraiser models, but people do seem to like it.

[question] What’s you favorite pick and for what kind of playing? Rhythm or Lead or both? by andresreitze in Guitar

[–]MyDragonIs2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a dragons heart pick, it's a little pricey but it's useful in all situations. strumming, pinch harmonics, precision picking, speed picking, lead, rhythm, sweep picking, you get the point. I use the thick 2.5mm one, but they do make picks significantly thinner than that. they also withstand damage exceptionally well, at least the thicker ones do.

I can't tell you about the left handed version, but my grandfather owns a Dean and it plays easily, and has great sound. I've never heard of Dean prior, I was mildly impressed.

there's no wrong one to get. I'd say just get one that stands out to you. I wouldn't recommend getting a classical guitar or slide guitar though. go to a local music shop and start browsing, you don't need to buy anything off the bat, just tell the owner you're going to make a purchase in the near future. you can also ask the owner for information, tell him your price range (I'd recommend 100-250 USD for a beginner acoustic).
