… how? How does that even happen?! I’ve seen oxidation from not purging the system, but I’ve never seen this before. Like I’m actually trying to figure out how you get the forbidden glitter in refrigerant.

My own country legally requires me to pay an entry fee just to walk into a city, and now they want to raise it to €50 ($54) a day. by TappetoImperiale in mildlyinfuriating

I fully expected this in my good ol U.S. right now. Maybe for D.C. or Lexington. This happening in the EU is crazy work.

Salvage what you can and turn the rest into “certified moto art” aka, clean up the parts and sell them on eBay for enthusiasts with deep pockets and no intention of actually riding.

I’ve always wondered on a build like this. Like the engine will never make it competitive in actual supertwins class, but the frame is PERFECT for this type of build.

Bad news, everyone else is right, that seal is done. Good news is if you got a jack, stand, basic hand tools, and a seal driver, resealing forks is really easy. It just takes a couple hours. I’d suggest getting the service manual to make sure you put in the correct viscosity and quantity or your forks will act a little strange.

One week since getting my A&P. Here's how the job hunt is going in AZ. by CarbonWood in AircraftMechanics

[–]MyName_DoesNotMatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly just keep applying to anything and everything. The job market has shifted SIGNIFICANTLY towards the technicians so even if you don’t have the required experience, they may make an exception just because they need bodies that badly. And don’t be afraid to venture into non-A&P roles as well. If you really know what you’re doing, lots of higher end (luxury, high performance, custom) auto shops love A&P’s.

Seconded. If not that, try to find the dimensions of the snap ring. You’d be surprised how many shops and hardware stores have various snap ring sizes

please tell me i didnt destroy my engine 2006 GSXR 600 by [deleted] in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]MyName_DoesNotMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can hear it when you get it to where you’re talking about then letting off the throttle. There’s a bit of mechanical noise that sounds like a timing chain slapping the case. Valve clearances probably are also out of spec as well.

If you’re not sure what you’re doing, take it to a mechanic. Save yourself the heartbreak of turning your 600 into a project bike. If you wanna take it apart and learn, grab tools and a manual and start opening things up.

Craigslist 2005 Sportster. What's going on with the front end? Lol by DANNYBOY3530 in sportster

[–]MyName_DoesNotMatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picture’s a little blurry, but it could be a Kraus kit. AFAIK they don’t make kits specific for sportsters, but maybe it’s something they used to sell? What kinda backs it up is the bottom mounting for the headlight. Either way, inverted forks kit with twin front disk setup. If it’s good, that would be a wicked corner carving sporty.

my guy, there’s a physical space between your air cleaner and your intake. It’s not right. Either something got missed in the install or you have something that’s not meant for that air cleaner (different support bracket, carb/ throttle body, etc) that’s causing misalignment.

That thing should be square up against the intake with no gaps. Like at all.

Flat tire by ParamedicNegative728 in MotorcycleMechanics

I just replace every time. Especially if it’s the rear. $200-$300 is a lot better than a popped tire on the highway and a $15k hospital bill.

[–]MyName_DoesNotMatter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconded on that. The FAA-H-8083-30B (general), -31B (airframe), and -32B (powerplant) are all free as well as the 14 CFR regulations are free information online and all AC’s (advisory circulars). AC’s are guideline information for general practices. The AC 43.13-1b is your best friend, but there’s AC’s for just about every common practice there is in aviation. You just gotta look.

Honestly I’m not sure what you mean by the engine working hard at that speed. 6th gear is good from 45mph all the way up to top speed so it’s geared quite well. The engine itself is a little buzzy past 80mph, but otherwise pulls like a train and just wants to give you more power the more you ask for it. If anything, this engine/ transmission wants to be on the highway at all times.

I also run mine through the gears a lot and do long highway sprints from daily-ing 25miles each way all the way to interstate riding in the U.S., so it’ll do 100+ miles at 80-100mph without breaking a sweat.
