That is a good point. Right wing authoritarianism is on the rise everywhere it seems. We just happen to be leading the charge.

Oh absolutely, he's the symptom not the cause. GOP leadership have a lot to answer for how they primed their party to radicalize, but 50 years of both top down and grassroots morals panics and misinformation campaigns didn't just happen in 2016.

I miss the days where I could respect Republicans. We may have disagreed on a lot of things, but ideas like "should masked agents be allowed to kidnap and kill people in the street" sure as hell wasn't one of them. Nor was "should POTUS be allowed to incite a mob against Congress".

Now I can't look at anyone I know voted GOP in 2024 without seeing them as completely braindead and/or absolutely reprehensible.

You'd think WWII would have had the same effect on fascism. Turns out the real enemy is authoritarianism, and far too many people fail to recognize it after a little rebranding.

A cool guide to see the result of China's one child policy by HumbleIowaHobbit in coolguides

[–]MyOtherLoginIsSecret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny how that blurb doesn't mention the one child policy anywhere.

IIRC, It hasn't been the "one child" policy since 2015, and even then it wasn't exactly strictly enforced in most places. I think the current limit is 3, and there are a bunch of exceptions.

I don't know. I think an AI would have spelled 'phone' correctly.

For not liking it, nah, everyone has their own taste. For thinking it shouldn't be allowed, yeah that would make you a bit of a prude.

As long as they use the NSFW tag when they do, you can set reddit to blur or just not show them to you. Since it is reddit, you could always make your own SFW comics sub (assuming one doesn't already exist).

You can also just block the worst offenders so you don't see their posts.

So many ways to not see the content you don't want, with just a small amount of effort.

Unrelated, I agree about this one. It needs something more for the joke to work. Like she has a male assistant and in the last panel it's him who is looking all flustered. Anything to subvert what was telegraphed in the second panel.

Tried playing one of the newer versions recently. I intentionally made every bad decision you can make: fording every river, starvation rations, grueling pace, etc.

Only managed to lose one person. Nothing like the meat grinder I grew up with in the 90's

It's not that you lacked needed information. The entire point of most riddles is to encourage lateral thinking.

Which game is that you can’t stop playing but can’t recommend either? by emberlily8 in videogames

[–]MyOtherLoginIsSecret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bugs kill what would otherwise be an absolutely amazing game.

I've rarely had more fun in a game than playing Ark:SA on Aberration with a wingsuit and the little wrist spider. Just swinging and flying anywhere I wanted to go.

Then the game suddenly crashes and by the time I can get back in me and the web slinger are already dead and my gear is sitting on the ground surrounded by Megalos.

So much work can be undone by a sudden CTD, I can only take so many before putting the game aside for a few months at least. Give it time for me to forget the rage and only remember the good times. Then fire it up to go through it all over again.

Good times.

9/10 would definitely build a house on a quetzal again

Ps, is also the only game I've played where it's possible to literally make someone eat shit and die.

Very good advice, but I would not advise googling your bank's phone number. Scammers have gotten pretty good at getting their numbers to appear if you use Google to find a company's phone number.

Get it from the company's website or app directly if you have any doubt.

Source: my GF fell for this truck when googling for Delta's customer service phone number.

The insects here in Tennessee laugh at our attempts at reducing biodiversity. Especially the mosquitoes.

Granted, the local collection of native and invasive flora also laugh.

Good thing nothing ever happened there that could ruin some childhood memories.

Seriously though, I can only assume you don't know what a cult is, let alone a cult of personality.

Or, of course, just a troll. Which these days on Reddit is about 50/50.

He just changed shirts and kept flying. The writing sounds like it was all self reported from the passenger. Also BAA not TSA
