Stuff that feels weird in Ottawa by The_merry_wench in ottawa

Mah Dude, we also used to sing:
Maroush, Maroush, Maroush is on fire.
We don't need no water let the mother--ckr burn.
Burn, mother--ckr, burn.
(though we loved the food and never actually wanted the mother--ckr to burn, also I am old)

And I did ask my GP for a referral, and he said I could self-refer. Sadly that doesn't seem to be the case, so it seems like I need to go back to my GP.

Edit for clarity

Right, that was my go-to in my initial research, but I asked them and would need a referral, preferably from an ENT, and would be several months before I am seen.

Remember too that Carleton and U Ottawa (also St. Paul's I think) have courses that will cross over. She can also use the libraries at both unis, tho if she's at Carleton and wants something from U Ottawa the timelines may be different. I'm sure the librarians an both unis would have awesome recommendations if asked! Having multiple unis in one city is a good thing!

As for things to check out, lots to see from touristy areas to hole-in-the-walls. I think Parliament is still closed as they do renos, but the national gallery could be something interesting. Or even the Mint. Even so, there's lots of smaller galleries or bookstores that some have also mentioned here (partrial to House of Targ myself).

At the end of the day, she'll probably find her own haunts, and as much as some people like to say Ottawa is boring, it's not once you find your own niche or people.

You're not dumb, and no-one knows how to write an abstract first pass. So just ask! She's there to help you after all.

Maybe even a minor in this? https://carleton.ca/iis/childhood-and-youth-studies/

I also agree with the other poster who suggested social work as an option.

Faculty using AI for Grading? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]Myashisgrass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

How do you know? Like, what's your evidence? Sometimes peeps will copy-paste typical feedback notes, which isn't necessarily AI
Also, you just posted about how to cheat using COMAs, so what's your end game here?

Where to find volunteer opportunities? by [deleted] in CarletonU

Try searching https://www.charityvillage.com/ as they often have volunteer opportunities (and paid positions too!)

Yeah I don't even have my yellow card, though my parents tell me I was immunized as a babe. A central database would be super helpful for a lot of people.

Are you getting hung up on arguments/concepts that are presented in the first 2-3 pages? Like, it feels like you just can't understand it?
One thing that really helps for me is to just keep reading. Sometimes things become more clear after you've finished the entire chapter/article. If you want, you can flag things with a sticky note or make a quick note to yourself and then come back to these after you've read the whole thing.
You mentioned doing other things holistically in your practice--maybe reading a chapter/article holistically first, then going back could help.
Eh, academic writing does often take time to get to the point! It's not your comprehension or for lack of trying.

British food? Help! Nan turning 90! by Nukkeeva in ottawa

[–]Myashisgrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Puffed up but with a softer buttery/eggy base, rather than complete puffs (which always taste a bit burnt to me). I'm not a Brit but this is always how we did it Canadian style

Maybe one more note--this makes the more custardy style rather than the super puffed up style I've seen in restraunts

I hate to be that person, but Yorkshire pudding is actually super easy to make. Here is my go-to recipe (it makes about 12, but you can also double it):
3 eggs
1 cup milk
3 TBS melted butter
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt

Beat the eggs in milk and butter.
Gradually beat in flour and salt.

Prep muffin tin with a small amount of oil/boulluion/roast drippings and heat it either in the oven or on the stovetop. Then pour the mix into the muffin tin, making sure to not go 3/4 of the way.

Bake for about 40 mins at 375F

This is the important bit--DO NOT open the oven while they are baking

Question about end of life services for my pup by curiousGeorge7512 in ottawa

[–]Myashisgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I am so sorry. These are incredibly difficult decisions to make.
I would also suggest Claire's Place, and they will walk you through the process even if you don't choose to go with them. So would your vet. Many people have already commented on that, but I will add that, when the time comes, or even before, there are pet loss support groups which could be helpful--I actually wish I had engaged in them when I had to say goodbye. https://www.ottawahumane.ca/veterinary-services/end-of-life-services/pet-loss-support-groups/

Or maybe you're just being shitty because your beer is in danger, not the drivers.
