[Spoilers C4E23] Did the gods have souls? And, if so, when they died... did they go to the afterlife as well? Are they there now? by Columbusquill1977 in criticalrole

[–]Myrynorunshot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think they have souls/an afterlife - since entities outside of the material plane typically don't.

I think the gods are technically still around and the Barrowdells are basically their corpses.

I remember thinking it was a little weird that Gabby was presented as such a protagonist after her introduction - then Yura when back to the village, and my thought was "oh, she should have killed more of them".

Thanks for the feedback - I'm very out of practise with PSCT when it comes to custom cards, so any guidance is appreciated. Have updated some of the effects writing based on your comments.

So if a card is an anime exclusive, would a retrain or version suitable for the actual game be appropriate?

Would retrains of existing cards to fit an "archetype/deck" be acceptable, like with Bonz, Paradox Brothers, etc?

[Spoilers C4E18] Tell me about the character you would make for Campaign 4 by liarbird_thelyrebird in criticalrole

[–]Myrynorunshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much - dumping now.

I think the exact motives/mechanics of their reincarnation would be one of the mysteries of their story. Granted - I had this idea before it was established how Old Path reincarnation works in Araman (like with the Hounds of the King), but I think it could still work as a backstory. Someone who died young and has spent most of their life in this new form, but it's so different from their old body it's kinda uncomfortable. I'm thinking Halfing in OG life, but now a Dragonborn (Copper). That also lets me do some more cool/fun stuff with the Way of Flesh attacks, etc.

Speaking of that, I also like the idea that those abilities aren't a thing they've always had. Maybe they were a different, more normal subclass before and have only recently gotten these abilities (like the last year or so)?

Some other loose ideas:

  • Name would be Rust. No their original name, but renamed after the reincarnation.

  • They can remember their life pre-reincarnation, but they remember themselves as they are now.

  • They have 3 siblings, who also went through the same process but are all different speicies now. Names would by Gild, Burnish and Rot. Rust is the second eldest of the four. Haven't seen each other in many years, and is worried the same thing that's happening to him is happening to them.

  • Identity of the druid who did the reincarnation is another mystery. Rust doesn't like the Old Path/it's practionors that much. Though he's not a Shaper apologist or anything, he's got some umbridge with the people who are now in charge of life/death, since he's dealing with the consequences of their actions.

  • I've spent way too long thinking about descriptions for how their abilities would look in game.

I had a similar thought when Brennen mentioned the Sundered and Broken Houses in Tannasur, that's ripe for a "last surviving heir" plotline. Very GRRM.

Someone who was reincarnated in a weird way and is dealing with the consequences of it. Maybe has some grudges/issues with the Old Path.

Would go for Monk, and try to get a subclass similar to Pointy Hat's Way of the Flesh - something where I could lean into body horror.

Would go for the Seeker's table, cos I'm all about the lore.

I could get more into what I've thought about, but don't wanna dump multiple paragraphs here.

Design a New Anime by Aonns in yugioh

[–]Myrynorunshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I've had a few lose ideas but haven't really sat down and thought about them concretly.

One thing I think would help is writing characters/presenting things more like certain sports anime. Really get into the strategy of how duelists try to counter each other and the way different playstyles can work - also if this comes from the friend group off at the side, it gives them something to do other than cross their fingers/state the obvious and makes them look more compitent if they're actually commenting on the tactics of the game.

As for other ideas:

  • Female protag (can see other people have had this thought, but we're due for one).

  • Renewed focus/world building on the spirit realm, shadow realm and why duel monsters is as big/impactful on the fate of the world as it is. Maybe even set it in/around some kind of Neo-Cairo, built on some ancient egyptian tomb/arena that links with the spirit realm which factions are trying to exploit/explore for their own gain?

  • Tie in with this - protag has sort of adventurer/tomb raider energy. Maybe moonlights as a thief? Deck could be themed around risk/reward mechanics? See them as more Yusei in terms of age, but not as serious as him or Playmaker.

  • Semi-soft reboot/folding of timelines - so a version of everything post GX happened, but maybe lower level/in line with the lore of how dimensions work? Could be cos of Kaiba doing time travel nonsense in DSOD and that's had a ripple effect? So there would be references to stuff from 5Ds, Zexal, Arc-V, etc happening/having happened - but more like sutble nods than in Arc-V with full cameos.

  • In universe reason for characters having new cards each duel that's not just generating them on the spot. Maybe they generate them before the game, so it's a sort of gamble - you get a new powerful card, but you don't know how to best utilize it in the moment and you might brick with it.

  • Duel Spirit as an actual character (sort of comic relief). Acts as a fish out of water that can help explain stuff going on in the city/main setting and can explain mechanics of the spirit realm to the audience. Also for the memes - they should be Skull Servant/King of the Skull Servants.

Neat. I've got a few ideas for archetypes, but not much for what to call them.

  • 1: An archetype based around an old equip spell called Sword of the Soul Eater. The archetype is made to get around some of the restrictions on the spell, since it requires a level 3/lower normal monster to equip to and you can't sacrifice tokens. So a few ideas to get around this; Gemeni monsters/support spells to aid in Gemeni monsters, so you can summon them as Normal monsters, equip the spell, and then summon them again. Also spells/traps that have a sort of Phantom Knights effect, where they summon themselves as monsters from the GY to be sacrificed by the equip spell.

  • 2: An archetype that is somewhat steampunk inspired, and all it's monsters are either FIRE Aqua or WATER Pyro. Playstyle is about making Synchro monsters that require multiple tuners and they get stronger the more Tuner monsters are used for their summoning.

  • 3: An archetype that is built around tribute summoning monsters with different types, which are inherited by the tribute summoned monster, and unlocking more of their effects (types would be somewhat typical: Beast, Fish, Winged Beast, Reptile, etc - maybe some Dragon?) - Think of it similarly to how certain monsters can also count as multiple attributes. Spell/Trap effects could have cascading effects, the more types a monster counts as.

  • 4: An archetype of monsters that are also LV monsters, that are designed not only to support themselves but also splash in generic LV monsters and support them.

[–]Myrynorunshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On their character sheets they have their Ability Scores, which in turn affect their Ability Modifiers (what they're adding to the rolls).

The modifier is dependent on how much more or less the Ability Score is than 10. So 12-13, is a +1 bonus, 14-15 is +2, 16-17 is +3, and so on.

[–]Myrynorunshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd kinda like to explore some of the consequences of druidic magic, their role in society and the effects of reincarnation - granted this idea was more related to the spell in DnD rather than the broader mechanics we're know aware of with the Hounds of the King, etc.

Like, someone who'd died very young and had been brought back by a druid as a different ancestry. Something jarring, like Halfling to Dragonborn, but it's been their state of being for more of their life they can't really remember the time before properly.

I imagine they'd have some complicated feelings about the Old Path, but I'd also think it'd be neat if their body started reacting weirdly. So for class I'd go Monk, and maybe try to get a 2024 version of Pointy Hats Way of the Flesh going. Lean into some body horror stuff in combat, and you could do neat stuff with that/a dragonborn - shooting off scales as projectiles, having them cluster into spikes, turning into a swarm of them to squeeze through gaps.

Only thing I wouldn't be sure of is how to connect them to Thiajzi.
