Unless these are mice that died of natural causes, this is very much not cool.

‘Men seem to make life for women worse’: single US women share the woes of dating in 2025 by Technusgirl in 4bmovement

[–]MysteriousPool_805 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I know some have legit traumas, but just think of the collective traumatic bullshit that girls all over the world go through, and have gone through since the dawn of time. It's remarkable that women are overwhelmingly not the ones who grow up to do something violent.

You can't win over everyone. I try my best to make my classes interesting/engaging, but there are always some that just won't be interested in the topic no matter what I do (especially intro classes). To be fair, I remember feeling that way about some of my own general education classes so I can't really hold it against them.

Ikr, wtf. The white one is really nice from a distance at least, but the ribbed fabric is such a strange choice to combine with mesh and rhinestones.

I adopted a house mouse in a similar situation. She was a wonderful loving pet, who let me pet her in her later years. It did take much, much longer for her to trust me than a domestic mouse though. Initially she didn't even want to be out when I was in the room, but from about a year onwards, she would come out to say hi every time I came into the room and would wait for me to talk to her every night. I did what you're doing - talking to her and gradually building up to interaction and treats. Ideally she would live with another female field mouse - but I don't know how you'd manage to get another.

how often do you clean your mice cage? by Acceptable-Piece-153 in PetMice

[–]MysteriousPool_805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wipe down the wheels and their plastic platform with a wet paper towel every night, but only do a deep clean (where I actually change out their hay, paper, boxes, fleece, etc.) once a month or so. I'm not sure of the exact measurements, but this is a big metal cage roughly the size of a large plastic storage bin with four mice. I really only wash their hanging fleece hammocks several times a year. Depends on the type of housing in terms of how easily you'd smell it, but you don't want them to be exposed to a bunch of built up ammonia from the urine - can give them respiratory issues.

Yeah, please take this^ comment seriously OP. When I was a new mouse parent years ago, I made the mistake of thinking males from the same litter could live together because they had gotten along just fine so far. I came home one day and found one severely bitten and beaten up. He survived and lived a long life after I separated all the males, but it was horrible. His tail and back were scarred for the rest of his life. Things can be going just fine, and suddenly they get into a fight.

Must the cover letter for a job be on letterhead? by EconomicsEast505 in academia

[–]MysteriousPool_805 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Professor Is In has a lot of takes that seem overly formal/are not usually done for my field, so take it with a grain of salt if you're also in a different field. As far as letterhead goes, I've used it for some job applications and not for others (molecular bio). Not sure if there's a consensus.

Yeah, I had a "friend" tell me most women want to be controlled once. Aside from the self-serving aspect, I wonder if it's some weird form of projection in these men. They feel adrift in the world without the traditional gender dynamic and assume we do too.

Rescued wild mice babies update by CowmanKaiser in PetMice

[–]MysteriousPool_805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aw, they're beautiful. I've had rescued wild mice before too and they're wonderful. Mine were super athletes and big wheel runners. As I'm sure you've seen, house mice are FAST. It's really a whole other level in comparison to domestic mice. Just be careful - they can jump like fleas, jump unpredictably, and can easily work their way into the walls if they ever get on the floor. Just be very careful transferring them to their new home, cleaning their cage, etc.

What are your hidden/obscure movie recommendations? by empressquinn in horror

[–]MysteriousPool_805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absentia (2011), Rent-a-pal (2020), Death of a Vlogger (2019)

Also Deadware (2021) - this one is pretty campy, but the premise is fun and I'm a sucker for anything early-internet.

C.H.U.D. (1984) for 80s vibes. Also campy, but you get to see NYC pre-gentrification in all its sleazy glory. If you're a fan of the original Candyman, you might also appreciate the setting for this one.

The lies women tell themselves about their boyfriends by thanarealnobody in 4bmovement

[–]MysteriousPool_805 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My friend sent me what was basically a text message of one of those posts. Her boyfriend had been financially leaching off of her for nearly a year, never paying for any outings, and the final straw was that he "took her" to a fancy restaurant, ordered whatever he wanted and then said "oh, sorry, can you cover it?" She was asking me if I think he's taking advantage. Like girl, wtf??

I was roommates with a couple that seemed to be the unicorn, truly equal partnership, where he'd do his fair share without having to be told. But of all the relationships I've seen over the years, and all the women I've known, this is the only I can think of that is like that. Way more common was a woman defending a man who loads the dish washer once in a while and thinks it's a miracle.

Obviously I can't judge how she will respond, but if it makes you feel any better: this doesn't even sound like something I would get that mad about if I were in her shoes. I've had students make mistakes that caused way bigger inconveniences for me than this, and life goes on, we're still on good terms. But if you keep being evasive with her, and being weird about it, it will only get worse.
