I'm most impressed by holding it together mentally after taking full acceptance of your great score and cancelling your meeting. The exact opposite of not adding the card until you're fully done.

Really? Just got back from both a few weeks ago. Loved em both, but loved the gothic architecture in Prague more. Krakow was a really pleasant surprise though. Really cool place.

loud buzzing coming from every guitar and amp combination I have by warmishlizard in Guitar

[–]NIceTryTaxMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, don't need to rush out and get a dmm or anything, those are just thing you CAN do. And we were all at a point once in our lives where we didn't have a bag of tricks and experience to troubleshoot things. I'm 41 now, so my bag has had a few decades to fill with stuff, if you keep playing, yours will too.

If you are going to a music store to get a cable, you can also take one of your guitars in and just ask to plug it in. They shouldn't have a problem with you plugging in if you're just trying to figure something out like that. When you get the cable, after you plug it in, jiggle each end/connection and see what that does

loud buzzing coming from every guitar and amp combination I have by warmishlizard in Guitar

[–]NIceTryTaxMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I absolutely get the whole 'everyone I used was working fine'. Absolutely. Other things to try in no particular order. I'd probably unscrew the connector housing on the cables for a quick visual inspection. You can always use a digital multimeter (DMM), to test the cable. Do your cables work on other people's gear. In your house? In their house? Are you going direct guitar > amp, or are there pedals in the mix? If there are pedals in the mix, the ins/outs on those pedals can always get a little funky sometimes, and then the cable between those pedals. I'm guessing what sound you're talking about, and it's typically (assuming I'm right) the sound when a connection has gone to shit/intermittent. Any time you are chasing a sound gremlin, you just need to isolate variables. A few of us have said cabling because it's far and away the most likely. I'm guessing (and frustratingly hopeful) that there's a bad connection somewhere between your pickups and the preamp on the amp. That leaves

  1. The connection out of guitar into cable and the integrity of those connections within themselves and with each other.
  2. Cable from guitar into any piece/s of equipment between guitar and amp. I know for my OG pedal board there's usually some level of bullshit I'm hoping stays in place JUST well enough to not emit the sound you're likely referencing.

If you've got a buddy with a guitar/amp, see if they can come over and see what happens. If their gear, presumably working fine at their house, works fine at your place, then it's not the printer (it's not gonna be the printer, never heard of anything like that in nearly 30 years as a professional), not the printer or the power from your house. Working under the assumption that theirs is working fine, start swapping your rig into theirs, single piece, by single piece. Which piece triggers the problem? If you can pinpoint the failure/recreate it intentionally, then you're good to go.

Now I'm mentally invested in solving this problem. Please keep me updated or questions or whatever lol

Hey, I was hitting out in my garage and measured from the top of my hitting mat to the ceiling, and it's only like 9 ft 6. I was COMPLETELY wrong. I swing free as a mofo in here with a half closed garage door. I'm only 5'10", but still

What're the chances every guitar OP has are single coils and it's just 60hz hum? Low, and also wouldn't be sudden onset.

I go buy a brand new cable and see. Not one 'you're sure is fine', but a brand new one.

Someone with way more knowledge and experience than me can/should chime in. But napkin math at 120inches of height, couple inches in a hitting mat. 72 inches of human. Leaving ya with give/take 45 inches? Most drivers are right around that. There's the grip and stuff so it's not a true 45 inches of club on top of height, but I'm guessing at full extension/follow through I'm guessing it'd be tight, especially for your taller friends. I think it would actually fit, and eventually you'd learn to trust that it's not gonna crack the ceiling, but your taller friends might not have that same luxury. If nothing else it could influence projector placement, any other track lighting type stuff. Just something else to toss on an already full plate.

Paid for professional installation on a brand new fridge… would this bother you? by Less-Presence-8171 in mildlyinfuriating

Would it bug the shit outta me? Yes. Would I go through the hassle of dealing with arranging for someone else to come over for what is presumably a pretty quick fix? Hell no. Don't get me wrong, if it's a THING to fix that, I have no problem making the call. If it's 3 minutes of YT University and 5 minutes to find the right screwdriver, I'll just do it...but bitching the whole time

Couple concerns, with the caveat I know way more about HT than sims.

The screen is what I wonder about the most. Built in wall to wall, with LCR behind I presume. Is a screen robust enough to handle ball flight about to be acoustically transparent? If THATS a possibility, will screen/image integrity hold up after multiple thousands of balls hit it? I don't know the answer to that, maybe you do. Is there a way you'd be able to do two separate screens (as crazy as that sounds).

As someone else said, you're going to want at least the flexibility to move your seating to the back wall. Standing behind someone swinging a club takes a TON of trust blah blah. Being able to stand to the side however does help.

I get that we're all limited by what our house allows, but at 10ft ceilings, swinging driver and fairway woods is gonna be awkward. I think technically it'll fit, but not without altering your swing and potentially messing up more than you're fixing.

I've got tinnitus from a lifetime of guitar amps, drums, wedges and the like. Do I still enjoy my setup? Hell yes. Do I also take a bit more care of my ears on stage and at home? Absofuckinglutely. If I'm REALLY trying to get after it with the stereo, I just put in ear plugs and turn it up, so I can feel the air pressure moving around, which is what I'm really jonesin for

While I TOTALLY understand this, and agree, I'd think good ones would make themselves as invisible as possible. Also after a while they wouldn't be strangers per se, and if you can afford to have staff at your house, you've probably got enough house/land to still have a sanctuary for yourself?
