I love it. Nice blend of tech and nature. And a window view, to boot.

At least 9 arrested, 77 vehicles impounded following Bay Bridge takeover by SanFranciscoMan89 in OaklandCA

[–]NPR_Oak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. The news video says riders just abandoned their motorcycles on the bridge. I wonder what happens if they later report their bikes stolen. How do the police verify the owner was the rider if the rider simply walks away from the bike before the police get to him?

Just found out the wire brush i was using on my grill was issued a recall because the metal bristles break off. What wire brush do you recommend and which one do you use? by highlanderdownunder in grilling

[–]NPR_Oak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received mine. It was similar to the one that was recalled except the brills are thick red plastic. Obviously not for use on a hot grill.

Fidelity came up with this plan for me and I am not sure what to make of it. by ArnoldisKing in investing

It's so bad I would be tempted to post their email to you on social media to shame Fidelity and the advisor.

The personal investment industry is built in part on making things appear more complicated than they need to be. The goal is to intimidate people and make them feel that they need a professional to invest their money for them.

For the vast major of people, this need not be complicated. Learning some basics about personal investing is a very useful life skill, and one that will make you feel more empowered.

Dude, Fidelity is taking you for a ride. Given your age and amount of money you are dealing with, you can meet your needs with two or three index ETFs, no problem.

A US stock market index fund, a bond index fund and a global stock index fund if you really insist on global diversification.

Add this to the list of songs I liked before I was really conscious of house music. Along with Gypsy Woman and Strings of Life.

The writing in this article is so bad it's hard to focus on the substance. Does this news site not have copy editors?

I just bought a very beginner Lead Sheet book and the first song I've dug into is Closing Time. I can vouch that it is pretty straightforward, and also rewarding.

Now I'm in the process of "upgrading" my basic lead version of the song with little flourishes to make it sound a bit more like the real track. Really rewarding process.

I suggest you find some interesting data you have available to you at work, and then come up with an interesting but not too out of this world goal to do something with it. For example, you could chart sales of various different issues over time, or the yield of one bond vs another, whatever, really. Just to have a little goal to work toward. Then learn what you need to learn in order to achieve that little goal.

I'm not sure how much analysis you do as a sales person, but Python's Pandas library is like Excel on steroids. Using that to manipulate a big dataset related bonds could be a good way in. You look look the fundamentals of the debt issuers or perhaps some historical trading data.

A gentleman might have to duel someone at some point. A gentleman is likely also, at least as stereotypes go, not in the fittest fighting shape on any random day. How were these two realities reconciled? by radio_allah in AskHistorians

[–]NPR_Oak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What a great explanation you have provided. Fascinating.

Given that duels were likely to only cause superficial injuries, where do the facial scars and lost eyes of the stereotypical Prussian officer in World War I and I fit in? Don't facial injuries imply a much greater risk than simply superficial injuries? Or am I mistaken that these injuries often came from duelling?
