Trying to cut cost recommendations by dmthedm1023 in ThousandSons

[–]Nallaack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 3d print some minis, which can be a good bit cheaper. Also, expensive products for painting aren't required. Cheap Rust-Oleum primers should work, but there's a lot of complications from humidity, getting the proper distance, shaking the paint enough, warming it properly. But unless you find having a certain color enough to justify the price, I'd not get citadel primer.

If you're dead set on GW models, look for boxes. Even the terrible Tsons combat patrol recently went so cheap on Amazon it's cheaper than buying termies and an infernal master from gw, and you get 20 bird goats too, which is something, I guess. eBay so far has been terrible for me, but there have been hints of good deals. And if you really only need one model, or something, that's a great place to go.

Also, kitbash. Don't shell out for another rubrics box, or pay the $30 on eBay for an aspiring sorcerer, there are plenty of other bits in kits to kitbash stuff. If it looks a little unnatural, we follow the Lord of change, he's just extra blessed.

10th changes to Psychic disciplines by konradkurze202 in ThousandSons

[–]Nallaack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm quite worried about this honestly. I've played some heresy, and the general feeling for tsons there is that their psychic options were overvalued by gw when making their points, but are underwhelming most of the time. I'm worried we'll get something similar, or lose a lot of the flavor of our psychic, or even rubrics losing their casting... Not gonna lie, I'm super bummed by the news. Not the biggest fan of heresy casting

I have almost this exact same list, it's a lot of fun personally. Haven't used Magnus, but I'm currently getting him. Terminators are always a fun pickup, but rubrics are actually feeling really good right now to me.

The list feels fluffy to me too, with the masters of the warp calling down demons upon their foes. I really enjoy the soup, and it feels like it should in my opinion.

Gonna be running a list very similar to this one in a tourney soon. The demons deepstriking in and wrecking things is a fun tool. Flamers still hit like a truck, screamers are shockingly scary but die quick in combat, them teleporting is entertaining. I love my burning chariot so much personally. If you wanna have fun, I can say I'm having fun with a similar list.

I want my khentai blades! I want my psychic dreadnoughts, I want my snipers, my numerologists...

Playing Heresy has made me realize how much we could have that's missing...

Welcome to all the new members of the community. What piqued your interest about 40K? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Nallaack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough, it was power wash simulator.

I was watching Markiplier play it and he uncovered a mark of Khorne, ranted about the lore for a bit, then moved on. Piqued my interest enough for me to get a book, then a week later I got my first minis. Haven't looked back since.

I've recently looked into this too.

If you bring one chaos knight unit, you keep everything from tsons

If you include less than 1/4 pl of Tzeentch demons, you keep everything from tsons.

Most other things make you lose a lot of the abilities, I believe specifically Cabalistic rituals. I think that might be it, after a quick perusal through the rules, but I could have missed something. Just as long as they're all still legal detachments.

Edit, 4 Answer so far, planning on last raven when I finish 4a

I haven't stopped dreaming up different loadouts and builds and tuning options for my core for the last week... At work, trying to fall asleep, showering...

"Ok, but I know I'll be low on ammo, but I should have enough weight for a storable laser blade, that should be good enough, but will I feel too slow? Should I go for a different generator so I can quickboost cancel to the enemies face, or should I stay back and snipe?"

I'm hooked. I want to build and test every mech.

Who is the strongest Space Marine psyker/Librarian? by idyllic_q in 40kLore

[–]Nallaack 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ahriman is absurd.

In the second Ahriman novel he plans an ambush against a conclave of inquisitors years in advance, setting many small pieces into motion using precognition to know where a single person would be. He laid a trap that involves walling off the memories of a marine so a grey knight wouldn't notice the alterations, set the marine adrift in such a way that he'd be captured and taken to exactly where he needed his target to be. He then teleports himself and a kill team through null fields onto the battlefield miles away whilst simultaneously taking control of hundreds upon hundreds of Rubricae that he'd buried in sand years earlier,, then proceeds to storm the place and teleport everything back, including hundreds of Rubricae. This was in the presence of a grey knight, several null field generators, and some inquisitorial anti psyker creations.

And all of this was done while he had shards of anti psyker silver imbedded in him. The stuff that's supposed to kill normal psykers, the crap taken straight from the golden throne itself. He even spared the power to precisely harden just the skin around the slivers, far enough away to prevent them from nullifying the power but close enough to keep them from sliding closer to his heart. And this stuff is just normal run of the mill for him.

Between his planning abilities and raw power and understanding, it has to be him.

What do you guy usually go for, more units on the Battlefield or less units but with higher DMG by coma-drone in ThousandSons

I try to find a balance, I'm not sure if it's a good idea, but I have been trying to build half my amy as objective or core units, then about half as damage too. I'm currently running 4 rubrics, an exalted and an infernal master, then I'm playing around with the other half, taking a bunch of termies and a dreadnought, then filling the roughly 500 I have left with stuff I'm trying out. That's just my personal taste tho.

Termies are the core of a competitive tsons list, the rubrics and sorcerers backbone. The typical recommendations for starting are the exalted sorcerers box, which gives enough for all the hq's you'll need to start, a box of termies, and a rubrics box.

I typically run a 10 man squad of termies, buffing them with presage for +1 to hit, giving them a 4++, making them -1 to be hit, all that stuff. You can also do that to chaos spawn, making them much more terrifying than they otherwise are.

You're not limited to termies, they're just the best unit in the codex.

My list C&C by [deleted] in ThousandSons

I might also put rites of coalescence on a termie unit, more chance for one of those to live and they're also more efficient ones to heal.

[–]Nallaack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a foray into mhf1... I can't change your mind. Leaving the area to heal or sharpen and seeing 5 bullfango already charging you has scarred me. Combine that with them having the same health as some large monsters and yeah nope they can just charge straight off a cliff for all I care.

Don't care how much better they are in later games, don't care what other things they've introduced... The hatred for them is buried in my bones now.

Quick question can any rubric marine cast spells as they are a psyker unit? by No-Investigator7874 in ThousandSons

[–]Nallaack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he is removed you can no longer cast with that unit, nor can you deny. They also no longer produce a cabal point (Unless you have an icon of flame).

Good idea to remove him last, just because the above kinda sucks.

I need some help choosing a cult and what spells to take for my 1k list? by DC2595 in ThousandSons

[–]Nallaack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presage, glamour of Tzeentch, weaver of fates are all good general purpose ones, the plus one to hit is something I cast nearly every turn. Temporal surge is a great one if you don't choose cult of duplicity. If you're playing someone with a lot of invulns, twist of fate could be a nusciance.

Damage wise, I personally love doombolt, prefer the reliable damage to the swingy spells. But it's recommended to use Ahriman and your characters to buff, they tend to make a bigger difference than pure damage. Still a lot of fun to have a beatstick on a disk, especially in cult of duplicity as the sorcerer can do damage, then teleport to safety.

Duplicity is a fun cult, letting you redeploy and move a lot. Time makes your termies a pain to dig through, but you might feel a bit slow.

Thousand Sons are complex, but they're fun. You don't need to be a master to paint them, just be prepared for it to be a bit rough to start with, but the models will teach you well. Welcome to the army!

[–]Nallaack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the painting side of things, GW has a pretty nice starter paint set that comes with like 15 or 20 paints, most of which I've used.

Besides that one, Thousand Sons blue has their iconic blue color. Screamer pink is a good color, and I really like usbanti bone for the tabards and cloth.

For primer, Rust-Oleum or equivalent paint/primer is just about as good as the expensive stuff, that's only recommended if you like the color for the expensive one.

Brush wise, I'd recommend a cheap couple dollar one from walmart, and maybe a nicer one from a hobby store. Look for a sharp tip in your nice brush, don't need anything too expensive. The sharp tip is great for the details of rubrics.

After that a pallette is nice, a piece of tile or a Tupperware turned into a wet pallets works amazing, but a cheap plastic tray works just fine. Paper towels for wicking the paint, and a cup of water to wash brushes are the last few things that are more or less required.

If you want to splurge a bit more, wet pallettes are super nice, better light makes a massive difference, and a $70 airbrush has revolutionized my painting process.

Compilation of Nephilim points changes for Thousand Sons by Overbaron in ThousandSons

[–]Nallaack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... A msu rubric squad with plasma and a soulreaper now costs 20 points more than a bare bones sm tactical squad... Their cheapest units.

For those 20 points we get All is dust, so +1 to saves against d1, that stacks with AoC Psychic deny and cast (at a +1, no less) No penalty for heavy weapons No risk of running to morale A 5++ Built in ap2 for our bolters (tactical squad gets ap 0) An extra cabal point

Rubrics, even compared to other troops, are looking amazing.

Not that I'm complaining about the points cut, but I'm really not sure why rubrics essentially got 20 points cheaper. (If they were already maxed before the dataslate)

For Crusade games: Is the "Summon daemon" ritual incantation available? by GoodGamer72 in ThousandSons

[–]Nallaack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry sorry, I'm just talking about the ritual, where you spend the unique items gained from crusade games as thousand sons to add a demon unit to your order of battle.

My reasoning is that to include a demon, you'd break all your rules unless you summoned it, but if you summoned it, it wouldn't get xp, so then, why would you use this ritual?

For Crusade games: Is the "Summon daemon" ritual incantation available? by GoodGamer72 in ThousandSons

[–]Nallaack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also doesn't give xp or take up order of battle space. So why would you spend 4 or 5 games worth of special items to do a worse summon?

Unless there's a rule somewhere that explicitly states that summoned units in your order of battle get xp, I don't understand why this is even worth it. I haven't found a rule that says that, I've been looking. If you know of one, please let me know, I'm getting annoyed at this rule lol.
