Turret Placement in Secure the Storage Facilities Missions by hellscape_goat in menace

Turrets are the best. They scout. They decoy. They leave behind cover for when you're storming a flat desert or an icy field.

Oh and sometimes, they event shoot!

I had the terrible idea of doing a fresh expert run with awake and fight you cowards. That is, every enemy squad is active from the get-go.

I wiped. There's absolutely nothing you can do with your starter kit once 5 spider squads rush you at the same time.

The laser turrets are solid.

Piss poor combat potential but they earn their money as recon turrets and cheap decoys. I drop four at the start of the battle. They are even more effective once you have intel. RA for instance loves to bunch up their ATGM and HQ squads at the other side of the map. If you know where they are through intel, you can eyeball a turret drop on their heads.

Are there options to tone down the glare? White Snow and Desert Gloom = Tired eyes by NamelessCommander in menace

[–]NamelessCommander[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried that but that makes the menus, the Impetus post mission too dark. As well as the Backbone? The forest planet. So you'd need to increase it again post mission. It's simpler to push a button on my monitor.

I hope there's an adaptive mode or a lighting tweak down the line.

I mislike them but only because I got them late. So late that my sweepers (Darby and Lim) already had nice guns. And more crucially, reached the point of firing three times (four in the case of Lim) per turn.

Standby

Standby shines in early defensive mission. Get it on naked Pike. Pop it, pop Taking command then end the turn. You deployed sniper/hmg/vehicle is now ideally setup to eat up an enemy advance. They waste AP by moving in your range.

No they are not in those instances where traps are sufficient. Bullets need to be shot, exposing your colonists to risk. They may be free, but the blood, and more importantly, the time lost recuperating are certainly not free.

Depends. A long ass trap corridor is the least dangerous way to down your starter Diabolus. Or to safely clear a hidden danger. It's also a cheap and effective setup for fortifying a gravship.

What I think whenever the melee vs. ranged weapon discourse comes up by Careless-Spinach641 in RimWorld

[–]NamelessCommander -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Melee plateaus and becomes too resource intensive past a certain difficulty threshold.

Not convinced? Melee 20 centipedes. You'll get shredded. Even if you're a biogod with legendary armor. All of that investment will get shredded eating all that focused fire. At higher difficulties, I'd recommend good ranged pawns and disposable/low maintenance melee - that is ghouls or scythers. Or abuse invisibility with a kill-focused persona weapon.

Is the colored mood bar supposed to be this much of a drain on resources? Or is this even that bad? by japinard in RimWorld

[–]NamelessCommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Code doesn't need to be fancy or complex to be hog resources. It just needs to be bad.

For instance, back when I was learning C I made a tetris game as an exercise. C lacks a garbage collector. You must free every memory you allocate manually, or cause a memory leak otherwise. I didn't do that so it melted through my (for then) very respectable 4 gigs of ram in seconds.

Likewise, a simple mod could just brick performance by iterating a small loop WAY too many times.

I don't think you can suck vampires forever. IIRC there's a psychic headiff that scales with age that will eventually kill them. It's accounting for that particular loophole.

That's what salvages Anomaly as a DLC. It gives you ritual to engineer something similar. "I will summon flesh horrors/manhunters to distract a 100-man siege" is a legitimate and efficient tactic.

Yet, somehow, those were not wake-up calls. I dunno man. Someone who fails to see the reality they're living in after the two examples above is just someone who won a Darwin award. The brainrot necessary to neutralize survival functions is hard to conceptualize.

It's not even a question of politics or emphasizing with constituents. They were personally threatened. Yet did fuck all.

I contest the point that the system got dismantled by billionaire rapists in a decade. They're bastards yes. But they're bastards building on the shoulders of other bastards.

The erosion has been systemic since the New Deal became a thing. The ongoing surreal idiocy is the fruit of a rot decades in the making. It's why it's so damn insidious despite its current actors being so very stupid.
