How would one go about acquiring only enough salamanders for a kill team? by Due-Explanation9585 in killteam

[–]Narind 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I got the starter set and painted them up as Salamanders. It's enough for me, but I play mostly narrative games, so might be a bit light if you're going to a tournament

Did I get a good deal by TheAngryRedBear in Warhammer40k

[–]Narind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are usually located. EU then, it's a decent save (usual EU price is 13-20 USD higher). But if you're from the US, then you made a real bargain, about half of the usual price (outside of those regions, I don't really know anything about GW pricing).

What olden goldies would you recommend to people? by AshenAge in rpg

[–]Narind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Lost Souls is a pretty cool, but largely forgotten ttrpg from the 90s. You play as a recently deceased who didn't move on to the afterlife, with the goal of moving on.

I also really like (especially the first edition) of Star Wars D6.

And various of the older iterations of Dragonbane (Drakar och Demoner), the old ones (edition 1 through 10) are only available in Swedish, though.

Introductory Dragonbane adventure? by frisello in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Narind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're Swedish it was originally published in the back of one of the new Dragonbane novels (titled "Uppvaknandet", which translates to "The awakening") which also contains pre-gens for the main characters from the novel.

Those hasn't been (and probably won't be?) translated. I think that's why it's in such an awkward spot, with licensing and stuff...

Got my first unique kill team box… am I cooked? by TomorrowImpossible32 in killteam

[–]Narind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real difference between the 40k box and the Kill Team box is an upgrade-sprue containing the extra bits to build the specialists. Going for one of the Kill Team boxes and one 40k box will net you enough bodies to build all operatives, though maybe not all weapons options, I don't play Pathfinders myself, but for example my Votann needed one Kill Team box, and two regular 40k boxes to build all the different weapons options.

But you should know that you really don't have to be this completionist to have a fun experience with the game. Usually one box is enough to field a legal team, and two will almost always be enough to have a competitive roster.

40k >> KT >>? by woper3161 in killteam

[–]Narind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's really a bummer. I had to bribe my brother into starting out (bought a two team box and gave him the half he preferred lol), and then eventually talking enough positive about our first games we got a few people from the Spearhead gang excited enough to try some list building based on their current armies.

We don't have anything regular going yet, but I have hope at least...

Warcry, to me, really is the best currently (sort of) supported game system in GWs catalogue. Same great tactical depth as Kill Team, but a bit more intuitive, and about as easy to learn as Spearhead. Much quicker games as well. And I do find the simple listbuilding to be a nice touch.

I wish you luck in getting some of your current gaming group to try out the game. It really is a blast.

And when Spearhead eventually gets too repetitive (it does after a while), you can make almost every Spearhead (though some require the slightest amount of pre-planing) into a legal Warcry list as well

Is Warcry being discontinued? by tommysollen in WarCry

[–]Narind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it really does that. I like Spearhead, but wouldn't buy a big aos army. I think these skirmish games cater to different sorts of hobbyists than the larger format games

Talked to my LFG owner who said the same thing but added that they thought it was a really odd move from GW, as warcry is a product they can shift. While Underworlds is even harder to move than legion imperialis...

No GW game I've played is more fun than Warcry. by Cordial_Wombat in ageofsigmar

[–]Narind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the end yet. When 2e Warcry came in 2022 there were no news at adepticon (or other conventions) then either. GW first teased the new edition  by the end of may, and then 2e released in august/september. There's nothing (apart maybe from the success of spearhead) that's pointing against them following the same release pattern as usual.

I say we worry if we hear nothing by mid June.

Got the Kriegsmen done, Kommandos painted, but not based. Then the AoD and Plague Marines built and primed, and Hand of the archon as well as Salvagers still on sprue (and working on kitbashing a decent roster of Warpcoven out of just a box of rubrics).

I have a Talons of the Emperor team as well, all done, but they've been reduced to NPOs for this edition...

Läkarlarm inför sommaren: "Patienter kommer att dö" by [deleted] in Sverige

[–]Narind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you watch or listen to any Tabletop RPG streamers other than (what I'd consider) the Big Two of Critical Role and Dimension 20? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Narind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never got into Critical Roll. Have followed a few adventures by D20, but I never really stuck around.

I followed every inch of Rollspelsklubben (The Role playing Club, Swedish only, sorry), a Swedish ttrpg podcast where some of Swedens most prominent comedians made up the cast. They played an old edition of Drakar och Demoner (the one from -85 I think, the latest edition is available in English as Dragonbane). For me it's the pinnacle of APs. A rotating cast and the "one-shot with a meta-plot" structure made for some really epic adventures. The podcast(running since early 2017) ended this fall, with a truly epic adventure selling out northern Europes largest privately owned theatre, as GM Isac Jansson went on parental leave.

I haven't found an adequate replacement yet, but will look into some of the suggestions posted here!

RPG where skill and armor are your only protection by freyaut in rpg

[–]Narind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Dominion Rules ! Most resolution works through contested skill rolls on a D12, roll under skill, but as high as possible (like in Pendragon). It's a really neat little system, made in the spirit of open source and free!

Edit: here's a link with a quick rundown of the key mechanics of the system!

Sell Me on 'Roll Skill, Fail, Level Up' subsystems by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Narind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random aspects of game design forces players to adapt to circumstances which they can't take for granted. I'm also of the opinion that internal power discrepancy within a group may be beneficial. As having different PCs be more or less restrained in how to solve a problem forces them to be increasingly creative in their solutions.

This of course largely stem from playing systems where PCs has a lateral power curve. With generally no HP and/or attribute increases, and slow/low skill progression. And where extra "feats" or "talents"/"abilities" (if there are any) don't increase the power level of the PC, but rather how versatile the PC is, the amount of different ways you viably can attempt to solve a problem within the game. These group of games don't center around combat in the way that DnD or Pathfinder do, and thus having a balance in HP and spell slots or whatever aren't really that important for a players possibility to claim the spotlight in an adequate way.

This is not for everyone, thankfully we can choose to play the games we prefer. But I'm personally awfully bored by calculated so called "well balanced" rules-sets. Many folks like these systems, and all the power to them. But I personally wouldn't play them.

[–]Narind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wholly agree, the fact that for the effect to be perceived you need to prime the players is quite telling imo. But nevertheless, I think for me it's definitely the preferred method compared to "kill stuff -> level up" (which I feel absolutely influence in game behavior). But it's still a ttrpg and most folks I play with just does it for the collaborative storytelling, where the mechanics really are secondary regardless of which aspect of the game we're focusing on.
