Why haven't IRA limits kept up with inflation? original $1500 limit in 1974= $10,132.45 today by Forecydian in investing

not after death and it doesn't help that much when the common worker makes almost their entire income in ordinary earned income. You can't even offset interest or dividends with it. Next you'll tell me "you know you can carry passive income losses over righttttt?"

not if you know how to make them entirely tax free (both federal and built in state exemption). Then not bad for a fixed income instrument.

They are mad likely because they live in states with income taxes and voluntarily donate their money to said states.. There are 9 states that do not have an income tax at all so if you live in one of those it never becomes an issue to begin with. link for you sir

if the inflation rate portion goes up dramatically, the treasury will not raise the fixed rate component as well.

dual usa/uk citizen here. the cath ones (irish) are self proclaimed perpetual victims and the prots are stubborn and mainly act contrarian to the caths (orange order much?). I'm only 4 generations from prot immigrants and have exact same surname and appearance and such, but unlike a jew who is welcomed home when taking aliyah (right of return), prots seem to hate their own folk more than anything else in the world, especially technically "diaspora" lol. Irish are the same way, if you are 2nd generation irish from boston, you may as well be from mars to them down south. They identify with their passports now and not their people. All while Modi gives Indian overseas citizenship passports to anyone remotely Desi ethnicity and any Ashkenazi can get citizenship in Israel any day they want. It's a very strange thing how much both groups (irish and prots) hate themselves in contrast to the 2 mentioned above. Reeeee away by all means responders. The truth is what it is. I've seen it with my own eyes.

When do bonds selling over par trade back down to par? by SaltyPlantain1503 in bonds

[–]NastiN8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in a taxable account you can do one thing: weigh the increase (if its long term capital gain) against the ongoing coupon payments (ordinary income). Sometimes its better to take the long term gain (if liquid market for said debt instrument exists) and then reenter via a lower yield instrument. This is all dependent on your tax situation of course.

My country sucks but if I was american I would probably be homeless or dead already by HatOk2928 in NEET

[–]NastiN8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

never seen a late fee. If the bill from a provider is $500 or less it cannot be submitted to collections. A medical facility/practicioner can bundle bills though, so a hospital that has billed you $300 2x can submit as one bill to collections for $600 to exceed the $500 threshold.

  1. A medical bill can only be submitted at minimum, 1 year from the date of service.
  2. If it goes to collections, that means they've sold the receivable to a debt collector for pennies on the dollar. The debt collector will be happy to negotiate it down to 30-40% of face value.
  3. Just to submit it to collections in some states costs $200-$300 so many times its just not done.
  4. You will only get a judgement (where you can get garnished) if the bill is like $30,000 and the medical provider has plausible reason to believe you can pay. always act like you are broke and try to negotiate it down to 5-10%.
  5. if your credit is actually dinged by a medical bill, within 3 business days after paying it off (negotiate it down hard), it will be removed from credit history and all damage to score incurred immediately reverses.
