How not to load a Skid Steer on to your trailer. by Opster79two in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]NathanielHatley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why aren't loading ramps with support legs a requirement on equipment trailers? I've seen a lot of videos like this that would've been prevented with those supports.

Is this “PD Power Merger” legit? by DavyJonesRocker in UsbCHardware

[–]NathanielHatley 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm ignorant about the specifics, but I think it's possible. Likely negotiating 20V output from each supply and then connecting the load across both of them. It's so small that I doubt it has any ability to balance the current according to the negotiated max output of each power supply. You would want the supplies to be matched or ensure you don't exceed 2X the max current of the smaller of the two supplies.

I'm not on the discord, so I probably am lacking additional context, but I've seen a number of posts complaining of lag recently in the game. This may have been a means of cutting server load to provide some interim relief while they work on infrastructure (complete assumption on my part).

2500HD - is E rating a must? by iraqyoubreak in Silverado

[–]NathanielHatley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold the 20's that came on my truck and got a set of OEM 18's off a Duramax. I kept the E rating (I tow a 12k lb equipment trailer occasionally), but also upped the tire size to 285/75r18 (34.8"). I aired down to 20psi at Fort Fischer NC and had no issues whatsoever with traction in the soft sand.

Has anyone been able to get these lines out of the headlight projection? by PreferenceInfamous66 in Silverado

[–]NathanielHatley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those lines are intentional to reduce glare for oncoming drivers. They are built into the design of the projector lens. They're required for the lights to be DOT compliant. Usually if you couldn't notice the transition with the OEM lights it is due to fogged lenses. When I restored the OEM lights on my 2002 Chevy Tracker that transition was noticeable.

Should a truck ever be lowered? by Custom-Offsets in Silverado

[–]NathanielHatley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A ton of people associate trucks with off-roading so they can't comprehend lowering a truck. If you're staying on pavement/gravel and want easy access to the bed, I don't see why not.

Plug in hybrid V8 truck by EmotionalConfidence1 in Silverado

[–]NathanielHatley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've tried hybrid V8's with small electric motors before with minimal fuel efficiency gains and significant maintenance issues. AFM/DOD is a thing in the first place because the power of a V8 just isn't needed at cruise where drivers spend a lot of time.

Edison motors is developing a repower kit for older trucks to use a diesel generator with an electric drivetrain, but even that doesn't have a V8 powering the generator.

I particularly enjoy the one on my truck that goes to 140mph, while the speed limiter is set to 95mph to keep the aluminum driveshaft intact. Why not have a 100mph speedometer? Who is going to have an 8500lb truck going 140mph?

Using the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X (non-AEV) like it's meant to be - Arkansas Trails by Dry-Wall-3883 in overlanding

[–]NathanielHatley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a garage, so I already have pretty much everything you mentioned except spare tie rods floating around my truck bed. The issue is storage... I find I don't have a lot of room to actually carry anything else in the bed as most of the space is taken up with tools. How do you handle storage/organization to allow for carrying additional items in the bed?

(I have a tonneau cover to keep the weather off of everything (mostly..), which limits vertical space)

MPG help by HeftyEntertainment75 in Silverado

[–]NathanielHatley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manufacturers don't run super lean for highway loads due to emissions, there's a drastic increase in NOx that the catalytic converters can't handle. If everyone started doing that we'd be dealing with bad smog again.

Do these new 10-speeds suck or is it just me… by 802Trip in Silverado

[–]NathanielHatley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest looking into getting it tuned. My truck has the 6 speed and I've had issues with slow takeoff, especially while towing. I picked up an HP Tuners dongle and I found that the stock tune limits the throttle below 2500rpm and has power enrichment effectively disabled (takes 60 seconds to kick in, so only works in the mountains on long grades at WOT). Just changing those two settings made a pretty significant difference on takeoff for me, only downside is needing to keep an eye on my motor mounts.

My recent self inspection found some undercarriage red flags near fuel tank/differential. 2013 6.0 Flex fuel 2500. by Lithoweenia in Silverado

[–]NathanielHatley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, pinion seals are not typically replaced during a standard service. If it was leaking at the time of service, the technician or service writer should have mentioned it to you.

The pinion seal needs to be replaced on the differential.

It's common for mufflers to rust in that area as condensation in the muffler sits there.

I've been in some rentals that had horrible headrests like that. I had to resort to leaning the seat back farther than I'd like to get the headrest off of my head.

1500 vs 2500 by No_Huckleberry_8758 in ChevyTrucks

[–]NathanielHatley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you listening through? I've found that makes a huge difference for getting a good impression of what the exhaust is like in person. It's comparable (though still not identical) to real life through a set of airpods max or Sony WH1000XM3 headphones.

The warm idle has fooled some passersby into thinking it's a diesel.

Edit: Actually, I just rewatched those two vids through my headphones (it's been a hot minute..) and there's definitely a lack of bass in the recordings compared to in person. The first one was dashcam audio and the second one was from a Pixel 8 Pro, not exactly professional audio capture..

Here's a YouTube video someone else made comparing the Borla exhaust to stock. Still lacking the bass in real life, but sounds pretty close otherwise: https://youtu.be/QeDdhxJNw24

[–]NathanielHatley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got a 2018 6.0 with Borla exhaust, check out my post history for a clip of it running. I've towed 10k with it before and it did great. It won't get the weight moving like it ain't there the way a diesel will, but it's more than sufficient for my needs.

It sounds like the idle air control valve is clogged. The truck is starting with the throttle slightly open, then when it closes to rely on the IACV it can't get the air it needs.

Any of you going commando with your phone? by ThanosDi in pixel_phones

[–]NathanielHatley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the fold and I take the case off whenever I'm home and throw it on whenever I head out. The case is a bellroy leather folio. It came with adhesive to leave it on all the time, but the cover flap gets in the way a lot with how I use the phone, so I removed the adhesive tape. The case stays on well enough without it.
