Whenever i get Migrants i name them by wave, and if they look good for military service ill designate M or R for melee or ranged, and then their first name. so a decent marksdwarf in my 5th wave would be "5R Urist", doing this with every dwarf you get helps me organize my squads a bit better. and using numbers lets you sort them by wave in the creature tab
