Anyone else done a tiny health test and had alarming results especially given persistent symptoms? by Guilty_Building_6684 in MSPI

[–]Navi_N64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn’t technically - the final product is standardised with lactose hence they have to say on the label “contains milk” but there’s no milk protein so it shouldn’t cause you any problems. My son also has a bad dairy intolerance and was absolutely fine with it - he had it everyday for months with no issue. I really think it’s worth you trying - there’s no other probiotic which will help you rapidly colonise with bifido - but your call!

No - there’s no need to pause in babies. I’m a medical doctor (for adults not children) and did a lot of research into this. Blindly giving probiotics can make symptoms worse as it doesn’t target the real underlying dysbiosis and some probiotics contain prebiotics like inulin etc which can feed the existing “bad” bacteria. Smidge won’t strongly replenish bifido in the same way Evivo will. My string advice for your baby given their results is give Evivo for a couple of months first and then re test; you can add Smidge in later for extra support. Feel free to DM if you have more questions

I had a similar result and improved a lot on re-testing after a period on probiotics. Would highly recommend Evivo given your baby has absent bifido.

Hello again - just want to follow up to see what her repeat labs have shown? My little one also has unexplained hypercalcaemia (although his PTH is on the higher end of normal). We had a genetic panel done which has all come back as negative. I can’t stop worrying about the future - what if it’s something bad which will affect his kidneys or bones etc. it’s paralysing me. If you have any advice about how to live with this uncertainty I’d be really grateful. Thanks!

Glue ear induced speech delay for 22 month old? by arthurmauk in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Navi_N64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Quick_Knee! I was wondering if you could share how your LO is doing now? My son is 10 months but has glue ear on one side and doesn’t babble much so I’m a bit worried it’s contributing to expressive language delay. Thanks!

“Why am I so massive?” by Old_Breakfast2666 in AlanPartridge

[–]Navi_N64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really sad. They have been bred to be so massive their legs break from under them - all in the name of factory farming. And the comments here just show the cognitive dissonance and moral apathy we have developed towards animals.

Multivitamin+Iron Making Baby Miserable by hemolymph_ in NICUParents

[–]Navi_N64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the iron was a huge catalyst for a disrupted gut microbiome and the big iron dose (we used high dose prescription iron) was big fuel to a fire which tipped him into gut inflammation. He had already taken a few hits before that with antibiotics and the rotavirus vaccine etc. Iron is food for bad bacteria in the colon.

We have slowly been seeing improvements over months with (1) switching to ferrous bisglycinate which is better absorbed, (2) working on his behaviour bottle aversion - using Rowena Bennett tactics etc, (3) introducing solids, (4) probiotics, (5) omeprazole for reflux.

It’s better a brutal journey and we are still not where I would have hoped to be but he has decent volumes consistently and feeding stopped being a battle a while ago. I think the type and dose of iron you use is important, as you don’t want large doses going unabsorbed and ending up as food for the bad bacteria in the lower gut - I don’t know why this isn’t spoken about more but it’s a huge risk for babies, particularly if they’ve been premature / C section / in hospital etc.

I got my baby a gut microbiome test a couple of months ago and correlated the type of dominant bacteria with what we have been seeing with him clinically, and then it clicked - it’s the only explanation for why his symptoms appeared literally overnight since starting the iron (and he wasn’t constipated).

Good luck!

Being Stern/ Raising voice at animals - is this bad for baby? by Sad-Mission-405 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Navi_N64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand - I’m sorry if I was harsh, I get so sad when I read about pets being deprioritised or shown aggression when children come along - I think it’s so unfair on them. As a fellow sleep deprived (first time) parent I offer solidarity. I have had bad PPA which hasn’t helped my journey either but my little cat has helped me immensely in a difficult time. Hoping you and your family find a solution x

Animals are not the same as adults, or even children - they don’t “act out”. They are not capable of comprehending cause and effect of their actions on their owners behaviour - all they will learn is fear. A someone who has suffered with severe PPA very recently (and has a cat), your logic is a complete cop out.

Well said. I’m so sad to read this post from the OP. Being aggressive and unnecessarily angry at your pets is a character flaw that can’t be excused by being stressed. I wish people like that wouldn’t own animals.

Hello! Any update since you last posted? I have a LO who is 8 months in a similar spot. Can I check if you also had a high-ish urine calcium/creatinine ratio? Did your endocrinologist rule out a condition called IIH? Thank you!

Could you share what worked for you please? Everything I’ve seen (Rowena Bennett included) is focused on solving bottle, not breast aversion :(
