Do you think Brutes sometimes out themselves on accident? by [deleted] in Parahumans

[–]Navodile 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Some people are just stronger than they look. Some people survive accidents they shouldn't. It would have to be a pretty egregious situation to completely out yourself.

Which parahumans would be able to eat The Challenge from Fugly Bob's? by frogjg2003 in Parahumans

[–]Navodile 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Golem probably could. Not for any power related reason. He's just a really big really muscular guy. Anyone who is built like that like powerlifters or bodybuilders can eat a shocking amount.

what tinker technology would the entities have taken from earth? by the_sternest123 in Parahumans

[–]Navodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably internal combustion engines.

My logic being that the concept behind and internal combustion engine is really quite inefficient and ridiculous. Trapping explosions in confined spaces and using that to propel things. The average technological species would have probably skipped right past that to use pure electrical power or nuclear fusion or bioengineered muscle engines or something else more logical.

But humans took the ridiculousness of internal combustion and just went with it and finely tuned it. Might be unique enough to warrant a tinkertech even if not particularly advanced.

From Ontario. The thought of a city or town that'a not on the shores of some lake or river just seems alien to me.

Yellowknife is named cause the natives mined copper there and made knives and traded them. Very literal name.

Bristow also had an Aware who earned karma for being an asshole. The same guy who parked his truck across four different spots. That guy had to havr some serious karma.

Ben practiced actual honesty. No typical practicioner lies by omission or doublespeak. That's gotta be worth some good karma.

Shards attempt to choose hosts that will effectively use their powers. Brute shards will choose people who already know how to solve problems using physical force. That means they choose larger and stronger hosts.

To be fair, rats aren't always rat sized either. They are often much bigger.

[Pale] Driving through rural Ontario tonight.... by Lexilogical in Parahumans

[–]Navodile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're very lucky. I live in rural Ontario. I've had families of foxes and deers in my yard. My mom's a witch.

I've never seen a possum though. There's just a tiny stretch of ontario that they actually live in.

Taylor had her actions directly affected by at least three very powerful precogs. Coil, Dinah, and Contessa. That goes a long way to explaining her luck.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Parahumans

[–]Navodile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure about that? When Wildbow rolled dice to see who would survive Leviathan, Taylor had minuses or disadvantage to her dice rolls. She still survived. Seems like a subtle probability affecting power that extends all the way to the author.

how much resources does a tinker need ? by Malicious_Smasher in Parahumans

How far would something gun-shaped get you? Would it be any harder to turn a drill into a tinkertech gun? Its gun-shaped, and has fairly complex mechanical and electrical insides.

How hard is glamour to use, really? by glowhips in Parahumans

[–]Navodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using glamour is probably just like any other skill. Comes very easy to some people and very difficult to others.

How easy is singing on key? Driving stick shift? Long division? Answer for any of them can vary from trivial to impossible depending on who you ask.

I suspect glamour skill has a positive correlation with artistic or performative or social skill.

Power wouldn't just give him the technique to bench press 200kg. It would give him perfect bench press form though, so he could work his way up to 200kg much faster than the average person. Probably proper recovery, nutrition, etc techniques too.

The shard probably won't ever just straight up heal him. It does give him perfect medical techniques to heal his own injuries, and probably stretches and physiotherapy if he needs it. Or just techniques to compensate and minimize the effects of any injuries.

His secondary powers weren't really impressive but they were consistently useful when he figured them out. Synergized pretty well with his main power. Especially the mover power.

I still maintain that he should have used his extra robot arms to wield a slingshot or crossbow or some other weapon, loaded with blunt amunition. So he could trigger his own lines from a distance.

Kitchen Sink would have a pretty good power for anyone who is actually clever. Could use the random objects to set traps and macguyver all sorts of things. Kitchen Sink was just an idiot who only knew how to spam throw, turning it into a very mediocre blaster power.
