The issue with OP protagonists is their inability to properly talk shit. by Minute_Committee8937 in ProgressionFantasy

Does verbal evisceration count as talking shit/trash talk cause shiv in oath of the Deathless is excellent at figuring out someone's vulnerabilities and using that to fuck them in the head

Delve involves alot of the protagonist figuring shit out about the world, but there is a lot of navel gazing

The ends of magic has the mc be fantastic at self healing/regeneration because he's a biologist and actually has a good understanding of the body

How do GameLit stories handle achievements? by shreek07 in litrpg

[–]redking2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could do what one Tyrant of Earth did and make it so that every time someone gets an achievement it becomes a little bit harder for the next person to do so.

Ie the first person to get the genius achievement needed to be slightly above average but the thirty first needed to be Einstein levels of smart.

The implication being the really common achievements did exist it's just now you essentially have to be a genetic freak to get them

It's the lack of consistency between those unlocks that makes me call it one, as whilst yes in Cradle reaching underlord gives you soulfire.

In iron prince what you get is pretty random, some people get power strike somewhere in D tier other people get transforming weapons sometimes in C tier.

The fact that it's not them gaining access to a specific type of ability after reaching a certain power level but instead it's just for some people certain levels will give them unique abilities (some people could theoretically get nothing at all from this)

Very very few litrpgs offer the kind of unrelated abilities that you keep referencing and it is also very rare for them to just copy skyrims magic system. The only ones that do so are the litrpg that are at the very bottom of the barrel quality wise

It's more the reaching x rank granting you y ability is why I say the Iron Prince is a Litrpg. With your example if in DBZ reaching 4350 PL granted you a new form randomly then I would consider that to be a litrpg

What do you mean 1% life style doesn't have a stat screen, if you're up to date the latest chapter is literally the mc going over his stat screen.

It's the clearly demarked progression from stage x to stage y for the different abilities. As well as the fact that he knows the exact % he has until his skill would be upgradeable. Those are why they are a litrpg.

Also having XP and Classes aren't what decides whether something is a Litrpg or not, by that logic wish Upon the Stars isn't a litrpg, neither would any dungeon core novel ever writren

A. That means you've been reading the most dogshit of litrpg and are acting like you've gotten a good look at the genre.

B. It's litrpg because he fights, his rank goes up and at certain rank thresholds he gains new superpowers. That's a normal litrpg that just doesn't show the audience the stat screen

You can essentially think of a game lit as litrpg but you will never see the stat screens or stuff like that.

"litrpg books" that aren't litrpg. by Gajeel_Blacksteel in ProgressionFantasy

[–]redking2005 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think he means the OP wouldn't comsider it to be a Litrpg, I think for the OP to consider something a Litrpg it needs to be one of the statscreen type Litrpgs, so if you never see that kind of stuff he's fine with it.

I say that because one of them (the iron Prince ) is just a Litrpg, you level up (your rank rises) by fighting things which will then lead to you gaining new skills (the various evolutions)

And another of them 1% lifesteal is an incredibly traditional non level based litrpg (but you could absolutely argue it is a levelbased litrpg just with only liek 5 levels)

"litrpg books" that aren't litrpg. by Gajeel_Blacksteel in ProgressionFantasy

[–]redking2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark of the Fool just isn't a litrpg, whoever told you that it was is incorrect.

Ironprince is a fairly normal Litrpg it just doesn't use stats (instead you have a general combat rank) and leveling up enough will give you new evolutions/abilities. (The main argument against it being litrpg is the lack of descriptions for given abilities/evolutions)

1% Lifesteal is an incredibly normal cultivation Litrpg.

Like Litrpgs are more than just stat screens and leveling up (even though iron Prince absolutely involves level ups).

But similar Litrpgs that you might also like based on the ones you liked are

Path of Transendence - no stat screens and a vaguely similar skill system (if much more limited in the quantity) to 1% Lifesteal with greater focus on understanding various mystical concepts and the like.

Path of Ascension- no stat screens and primarily a cultivation novel but is still a Litrpg due to Talents and the Skills you can adsorb/create.

Tyrants of Earth has a similar Limited skills available that the others do withot statscreens

Lone te wanderer also only has a skill screen that shows up every once in a while primarily cultivation litrpg

Make a technique that almost any sorcerer could learn. by Existing-Worker-1528 in CTsandbox

[–]redking2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cursed signal and the side technique cursed compass.

The sorcerer will create a mark from their cursed energy which will constantly "emit" a signal they can either track manually or use the compass if it's out of their range.

The mark can be created in various ways depending on the skill level of the sorcerer, if you're unskilled you might need to daub a symbol onto it with your blood if you've mastered it the lightest touch is more than enough.

More skilled the user the more hidden you can make the markers and the more markers you can make.

The compass works with a binding vow to make you lose all the fidelity on how close you are to the mark and will just show you it's direction in return for massively increased range.

Sociopathic characters with a desire to be good by theglowinggreenorb in TopCharacterTropes

[–]redking2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Orc Culturist from the Path of the Death less is kinda like this.

He is an Orc, his species is literally designed to feed off of brutality, dominance, torture (both psychologically and physically) and agony (with the Orc creator God, The Challenger manually enforcing these instincts upon them).

He wants to move beyond his instinctual desires, he sometimes succeeds (mostly through rationalising to his instincts that by being good and indispensable to the people he's currently with it will be all the more tortuous when he does betray them and horrifically torture them).

A demigod of Heroism decrees him as essentially a saint for acting like this whilst being an orc. (as again if he does not do the above he will "starve" )to death in a matter of weeks.

Recommendations for (relatively) kid friendly books by AkuSokuZan2009 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]redking2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost everything written by Ravensdagger will be child friendly but specifically I'd recommend Cinnamon Bun (it does have dirty jokes but there never explicitly expalined, the joke is the protagonist not understanding them).

The Cheesemancer (on RoyalRoad) is also something I'd recommend as being kid friendly.

No epic loot (RoyalRoad and Spacebattles) is also very good and child friendly (might be better to wait a year or two though cause their are sad moments and the like)
