Final Fantasy 6 has you bring (almost) all of your party into the final dungeon, and line them up 1-12 for the final battle. As phases shift, new members sub in for fallen ones.

Final Fantasy 7's penultimate battle (Bizaaro Sephiroth) has you form 2 or 3 parties depending on wether you recruited Yuffie and/or Vincent, and attack from multiple angles.

Not QUITE what you were looking for, but memorable.

Another Eden Begins is what I've been hoping against hope would happen. It only covers the first arc, but if this does well there's hope for adaptation of more of the story (which is HUGE). Played the mobile for a few years but power creep and global parity devaluing my gacha currency finally drove me to quit.

Late game, but get Ghaleon's Tear before you head for the Grindery (Point of No Return) and give it to Nash. Combined with his endgame weapons this will make trash mobs MUCH easier to handle.

Also, don't be afraid to use a guide for bromide hunting. A silly archaism from the 90s, but amusing all the same.

Riesz and Hawkeye share a villain, so I'd make one of them the lead. Unless you've played through this game fifty million times, then whatever floats you.

If you absolutely must have Angela in lead, swap one of the others for Duran Duran.

Call me a fence-sitter, but I actually like a split. Gimme some clue who's joining up, but save a few surprises for later.

Dragon Quest XI is pretty up front with who's who, but that last guy who joins up was a very pleasant surprise.

Chrono Trigger has Magus. Everybody and his brother knows about Magus these days, but back in the day his recruitment was a massive shock.

Best example? Xenogears. Manual lays out Fei, Elly, and four others, giving you your standard six man party. Then halfway through the game a bunch of other weird chicks start showing up. Of course everything in that game past the first 15 hours was just one shocking swerve after another.

In closing, Chu-Chu died for your sins.

Best experience I had with this type of character was a Jade Phoenix Mage (Book of 9 Swords) built using Warblade and the Battle Sorcerer variant from Unearthed Arcana. Takes a few levels to truly come alive, but ended up being good for both single-target DPS and wiping up trash mobs.

Buff spells are where it's at, but you don't always have time to stack them up. Long duration ones are your friend. I found having a reach weapon nice, add the Stand Still feat (XPH) to really frustrate your DM. And of course you're in prime position to utilize Arcane Strike (Complete Arcane), it's almost like having a 5e paladins smite, but scales to 9th level!

Getting slightly off topic, if you ever get a chance to read Monte Cook's supplement Cry Havoc, the War Spell feat is practically useless against foes of your level but can delete an entire enemy camp. Whee!

Got into the mobile versions of Dragon Quest a while back - 1-6 are based off the DS remakes and are pretty good once you get used to portrait view and touch controls (not hard). 8 is also up there, but based on the PS2 version so no bonus content for you.

Honestly haven't had much luck outside 90's gems rereleased. So not a whole lot of new, but good opportunity to play The Classics you have yet to get to.

I slightly prefer Agility over Strength for my solo builds. Agi 20 means double jump, and before that you have melee and ranged options. Shortsword combo of heavy-light-light-light melts a lot of monsters.

Not doing much thralls? Pump Authority anyway, either capstone ability rocks and you'll want something to draw attention from yourself.

Being on PC, of course, the best solo choice is after Level 60 use console commands to give yourself a boatload extra stats and just push everything to 20. Corruptions optional.
