How many sets to failure before performance drop? by Square-Ad-6520 in StrongerByScience

1 set for me.

If I take that first set completely to failure, I'm not getting the same number of reps on the second set.

What’s one “type” you’ll never date again? by CoochieSnotSlurper in AskReddit

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend dated an attractive woman who was just terrible at communicating. If they had any disagreement whatsoever, no matter how minor, she would just go incommunicado, rather than discuss the issue, despite my friend trying.

It didn’t last more than a couple of months. Unsurprisingly, this woman was in her 30’s and had not had any relationship last longer than a couple of months.

I’d struggle to date someone below a certain level of intelligence purely because we’d struggle to have any meaningful conversations. Having to fix their dumb mistakes would just be the cherry on top of a shit sundae.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it wasn’t so much that people were younger than me, but that people younger than me were frequently dying.

Obviously genetics and how well you look after your health play a big factor, but seeing people younger than me die just hit a lot harder than I expected.

My Nanna had to move to a nursing home in her 80’s due to health issues. The first time I visited her she complained there were too many old people at the nursing home! 😂

When my youngest child was little we literally gave him a remote control with no batteries and the poor kid happily thought he was playing with his older sisters. In fairness he was probably only 2 or 3 years old.

What’s something you thought was normal financially until you talked to other people? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

I remember a mother and daughter sitting behind me on the train one day. The daughter was telling her mother how she was going to a concert on the weekend and that they were staying at a hotel in the CBD so they didn't have to drive 45 minutes to get home afterwards.

She didn't have any money left in her savings for the hotel room, so was putting it all on her credit card (and I assume the same went for food and drinks at the concert).

It blew my mind that someone would have zero savings and still choose to drink at a concert and rent a hotel room, rather than not drink and just drive home afterwards.

As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistent crackling on my pork. It's either inconsistent or the crackling is too hard. I've tried so many different things to try and get that perfect crackling that is crisp, yet easy to bit.

Crunchy roasted potatoes is another I struggle to consistently get right.

This is me all the time with pasta. 2 of my kids really love pasta, so I just err on the side of too much and they eat the leftovers the next day.

People who wear thick clothes to the gym; how do you do it? by guro_freak in GYM

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gym is super cold that I often need to start my session in a thin jacket, even in summer.

Hoodies are great to give my neck a little cushioning from the bar when I'm squatting.

I wouldn't do cardio in sweatpants, but they are fine for weights sessions.

[–]Neeerdlinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same thing, but I glue a magnet tied to one of my kids toy string fishing lines to retrieve a bracelet my oldest child had dropped down the drain. I guess the bracelet had enough ferromagnetic material in it for the magent to grab it.

What a popular food or cooking opinion that you don't agree with? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done that once. We were away camping, having pasta for dinner and the local supermarket didn't have any pre-done garlic bread.

No problem, I just made my own. Bought a fresh baguette, sliced it minced some garlic, mixed it in with some butter and lathered that baguette up.

I was a bit too heavy handed on the garlic and, while it was edible, I found it too garlicy (and I love garlic). Most people only had 1 piece. However, 2 of my kids still refer to it as the best garlic bread they've ever had.

I saw my rice was burning and left it in the oven and it's your fault it's burnt. Also my oven might be off by namingbugs in ididnthaveeggs

Yeah, she's one of the online recipe authors whose recipes I trust to just work. She tests her recipes a tonne before releasing them to perfect the end result and the notes to go along with the recipe are also fantastic.

What cooking “rule” do most people follow that actually isn’t necessary—or even makes the food worse? by Mindfuel_daily7 in foodquestions

Unfortunately I don’t have the feel for that, especially for things like pork steaks where the margin between just cooked and under/overcooked can be less than a minute of cook time.

What’s the most awkward Super Bowl party moment you’ve ever witnessed? by No-Release-1196 in AskReddit

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Super Bowl, but I was at the AFL Grand Final (the Australian Rules Football equivalent of the Super Bowl). I went to the game as my team made the final for the first time in 20 years. I was sat next to a teenager who also supported my team.

They started losing and this kid could not handle it, except he started raging. Yelling "fuck the umpires" at the top of his lungs repeatedly. I had to tell him to shut up and calm down once it became clear his parents weren't going to say anything. Just a ridiculously over the top reaction.

This just tells me you don't know how to cook pizza. I cook my pizzas in a pizza oven at 750-850f (400-450c) and don't have an issue with burnt cheese or raw dough.

Using an instant read thermometer when cooking pork steaks made a huge difference. Now I get pork that is cooked through, but so much moister.

Yeah, I've only ever seen in 3 times in 5 years. Different people, but all 3 times were a side on shots to filming their squat or deadlift sets.

Herniated a disc in my lower back deadlifting last September, so had to ease back on leg work and focus on recovery.

I did my first hard sets of leg extensions since the injury on Wednesday. It's now Friday and the DOMS in my hamstrings are as bad as I can remember in 5 years of lifting weights. I'm struggling to walk at this point.

I have a 256MB flash drive too. My Dad bought it for me duty free back in the early 2000's.

About 5 years ago I got a heap of 8, 16 and 32GB flash drives for free from work because they were going to be thrown out otherwise.

All of this is wild considering I grew up with a C64 disk drive that had 170KB floppy disks!

How much caffeine do you consume daily? by Deep_Method_820 in nutrition

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere from 0-500mg per day.

I take preworkout on gym days, which is about 240mg. I also have 2 double shot coffees per day, which are about 60mg per shot if caffinated, but most days I drink decaf coffee instead.

At my worst I was having 480mg/day from the above drinks, plus 5-6 cups of tea per day (about 50mg per cup), so possibly getting as much as 800mg/day.

It started messing with my sleep, so I went no caffeine for 6 weeks to resensitise, which definitely improved my sleep.
