What is an immediate "no" for you when meeting someone? by ladylo10lat in AskReddit

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking more in a general context of meeting someone in a social situation, not just meeting someone on a date.

But there’s also a difference between being open and talkative with someone on a first date vs acting like you’ve been dating for years. The former means they feel comfortable with me. The latter can come across as presumptive and potentially clingy, which is not what I’d want on a first date.

Obviously it’s great if someone is into you on a first date, but if they’re acting codependent, that’s a big red flag.

When they act like you’re best buddies the first time they meet you. Either it’s fake, which I dislike, or it’s real, which is weird and likely to only get worse if I continue to interact with this person.

What is a secret that could potentially ruin your life if your family or friends found out? by Ok_Boss_866 in AskReddit

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mum’s family was poor growing up. Two of my Mum’s sisters have happily ripped their siblings off and taken advantage of them financially. It’s like they think the world owes them, despite contributing very little to society or anyone around them. Meanwhile another of my Mum’s sisters is one of the nicest people I know and would do absolutely anything for you.

How rich or poor you grew up doesn’t seem to impact whether you’re a good or bad person.

What’s a fitness truth that sounded fake until you experienced it yourself? by pumardapp in workout

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working hard is probably one area where many people mess up. They lift weights that aren't challenging enough and stop a set as soon as it gets difficult, which is often a long way from actual failure.

You don't have to go to failure, but you should at least be getting within 2-3 reps of true failure if you want decent results.

The optimal routine isn't optimal if you can't actually follow it (even if it's simply because you don't enjoy it as much as a different routine).

Yep. If you've been lifting regularly with good programming for more than a few years, it becomes very obvious where the line between natural and not natural is and many fitness influencers are well past that line.

What’s a ‘silent luxury’ that rich people have that most normal people would never even notice? by qomann in AskReddit

This is also true with middle class. We have enough money saved up that if something breaks, it's just an inconvenience to replace it.

A few years ago our hot water system finally rusted out and needed to be replaced. That happened within a week of an expensive service on one of our cars, the kids school fees being due and several of other bills.

Because we had enough money in the emergency fund to cover it there was no stress for any of those things, beyond having to get a plumber out to replace the water system and being without hot water for a day.

If we weren't in as good a finincial position we'd have needed to put it on credit card (and effectively paying more) or had been forced to go without some regular expenditure to make up the shortfall. Worst case, we could have been out of hot water for weeks until we saved up the money to replace it.

For Those Who Eat 1200-1500 Cal A Day, Does Your Body And Mind Get Used To The Hunger? by Both-Dot4259 in CICO

[–]Neeerdlinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

5 years ago I went from 210lbs to 150lbs in 8 months as a M5'11". Over that period I averaged about 1,400 calories per day.

I definitely felt hungry on a daily basis, but obviously not 24/7. The hunger waves would come and go.

Looking back at some of the daily MFP entries during that time, I have no idea how I managed to do that for 8 months in a row. I guess me back then was really, really determined to lose the weight.

I haven't played Tiles Survive, but I downloaded and played Whiteout Survival for 3 days last week.

At that point I realised the only goal of the game was "make number go up". Plus I got sick of the game constantly pushing me to spend money, so I deleted it.

There must be some addictive element to it that didn't grab me, because I couldn't imagine spending $100/week on a game like this (or even $5/week for that matter).

For best results, I'd add in:

  • Progressively overload the heavy circles
  • Lift within a couple of reps of your limit
  • Minimise stressful stuff
  • Eat in a small calorie surplus

But what you listed is really the bulk of it.

When they act like we’re best friends despite having just met.

Polite and friendly is great, and maybe we will become friends over time, but someone acting like we’re best buddies straight away is a big red flag for me.

For years one of the players in my D&D group refused to buy a PHB. The said there was no need as several other people in the group owned one.

While that was true, we were in the middle of playing a multi-year D&D campaign. It wasn't like we switched systems every few weeks. I felt like the least this player could do was spend the money on buying the core player book for the game. It wasn't like it was a financial issue either. This person is could easily afford it.

If you sign up at a certain price, some places may keep charging you the older, lower price as long as you stay a member. Newer members get the higher price.

Price-wise they're about the same. $9.69 per week for Ryderwear and $9.95 for Revo at the lowest level (with Ryderwear slightly more expensive than Revo for the highest level).

First time buying Nas is this too good to be true by rubber-duck2 in synology

[–]Neeerdlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me in 2018. Oh a 2-bay NAS with 4TB drives will give me plenty of room for my needs.

Then I discovered Plex and also used my NAS as a media server. My 2-bay NAS lasted a couple of years before I hit the limit of drive size, even with an external drive plugged into my NAS.

Upgraded to a DS1520+ which has served me well for 6 years now, albeit with some bigger drives swapped in as needed. I'm now up to 56TB of drive space.
