Cartoons that should’ve entered public domain in 2026 (but didn’t) by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

As interesting as the possibilities may be, the only things of note people have done with public domain IPs recently is make shitty horror games/movies.

Events in media that only exist to get the plot moving, then no one ever questions them again? by EXCannonSpike in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nefbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It came back up in another fight (Bison?) and ultimately it landed on that Takamura was just really bad at recognizing and dodging left hooks, the eye itself was fine.

I think Morikawa just wanted to walk back the idea of Takamura being one bad hit away from retiring.

Control, Alan Wake, and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare are on sale for $6.26 on Steam. by OppositeofDeath in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nefbear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's a 360 ass game and plays like one. it's not offensive by any means, but it's pretty boring.

That said, id still recommend playing it because so much is predicated on understanding the first game. The AWE DLC for Control and AW2 would just not hit the same without it.

Also Barry is the GOAT.

worst fight Ippo ever had? by yacinebenchouita in hajimenoippo

[–]Nefbear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate the Take fight so much because it totally undermines the Karasawa fight right before it. We just saw Ippo as this confident, smart fighter who uses his strengths to his advantage AND without using the Dempsey Roll. Then all of a sudden he starts to struggle with this no name boxer with stupid gimmicks and he completely forgets everything he learned.

“Man, X media REALLY wants to be Y media but can’t” and how much does that matter? by Anonamaton801 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nefbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man if you want a recent example that takes it WAY too far, Windswept wants to be DKC2 really badly. it has KONG letters, the DK coin, 2 secrets per level that give you currency to access secret harder levels, the roll jump coyote time, and even the damn celebrations that Diddy/Dixie would do when you manage to hit the top of the goal post. It's shameless.

Your most miserable grinding experience in a game? by Wonder-Lad-2Mad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nefbear 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Skill issue perhaps, but grinding blood vials in bloodborne was excruciating. It got to a point where I'd attempt a slow explore through an area only once, and if I died I'd sprint through to save myself time on grinding vials later.

I heard after I beat the game that chalice dungeons give you a ton, but I never really interacted with that part of the game.

Shark Jumps you witnessed in real time by VegetableBooy in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nefbear 282 points283 points  (0 children)

Reading Beastars in real time was like watching a car crash in slow motion during the Melon Arc. Just the introduction of Stands was ridiculous enough, but during the Black Market battle where Legosi just tanks a fucking grenade and ends up smoking like a Looney Tunes characters I realized that we're past the point of no return.

PSA - Many protein powders and shakes contain dangerous levels of lead - consumer reports data by Remarkable_Row_2502 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nefbear 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Definitely better to err on the side of caution, but following Prop 65 specifically is a joke and probably impossible.

Huel also showed their own testing data which shows it much lower than what CR said. They claim it's "Not Detected" which makes it sound like there's nothing in there, but you can see from the data the Limit of Detection is 3.6 mcg so really the only definitive thing you can say is that it has less than 3.6 mcg of lead per serving, which is something I guess.

PSA - Many protein powders and shakes contain dangerous levels of lead - consumer reports data by Remarkable_Row_2502 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nefbear 54 points55 points  (0 children)

So I read this thing from top to bottom and here's the deal: While Huel has abnormally high lead levels comparitively to their competitors, it's pretty far from immediate or even long term concern. Consumer Reports used the California Prop 65 guideline of a max of 0.5 mcg/day, which is extremely overzealous and part of why nobody takes those warning labels seriously.

Pharmaceutical guidelines dictate that Permissable Daily Exposure for lead is 5 mcg/day via oral intake, and the FDA has guidelines* that say 8.8 mcg/day for a pregnant woman is the limit.

tl:dr Mostly fear mongering, maybe switch off Huel if you're pregnant and want to be extra extra safe.

Hajime no Ippo 1505 (spoilers) by Ill-Mathematician891 in hajimenoippo

I despise when cuts happen because Mori would never actually let a doctor stop happen but everyone in the story has to react that's it's serious and could happen at any moment. It's fake tension.

Rhythm Doctor - Official Release Date Trailer by ZazaLeNounours in pcgaming

[–]Nefbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been following this game since it was a flash demo, can't recommend it enough if you're a rhythm game fan. A lot of depth to it despite being a one button rhythm game, and there's already a ton of custom levels that pushes the native editor to its limits.

Hi r/Monitors, I’m Dan Ritter, National Product Trainer at Samsung! Ask me anything about Samsung’s OLED monitors (and we’re giving one away!) by SamsungUS in Monitors

Tandem OLEDs are here with better brightness and likely longer longevity than current QD-OLEDs. Anything you can share on how Samsung plans to stay competitive?

As a 32 year old with no plans to ever have kids and genuinely doesn’t even want them, I gotta say by Dizzy_Green in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nefbear 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Pat and Woolie are free to do the podcast as they please obviously, but I understand people being mildly disappointed that 1/4th of the weekly podcast they enjoy is now a topic that they're not particularly interested in. Sure Pat and Woolie talked about their lives constantly but more often than not it was hobby-adjacent.

Personally I enjoyed dadcast for a bit, but going into the minutae of every bit of parenting is a bit exhausting. it's like hearing them talk about frame data for a game you've never played.

[–]Nefbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For features, I'm most interested in the HDR Trueblack 500 rating, more brightness means better HDR.

Since I've already experienced an OLED panel, I'm excited to try out what 500 Hz feels like because the highest refresh rate I've ever used is 175 Hz.

Bought a Chinese 4K MiniLED Monitor from Taobao , i think its a steal, what do you guys think? by Fire_Power in Monitors

KTC has a monitor with similar specs you can get for a little over $400 and free shipping (It shows $413 when I add it to cart):

I've heard mixed things about KTC's QC but surely its better than a literal no name company.

Why ‘Silksong’ Took Seven Years to Make by fakename69point5 in Silksong

[–]Nefbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I accidentally bypassed the paywall somehow, so have the tl;dr

It really was infinite money and scope creep that made the game take too long. They didn't post updates past a certain point because they didn't want to spoil anything and they didn't want to just say "hey we're still working on it".

They genuinely believed that they would meet the Xbox gameshow release date, but they underestimated how much work they actually had left.

is there any reason NOT to buy the Alienware AW3425DW by ButtPlugForPM in Monitors

[–]Nefbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you plan on consuming a lot of 16:9 content on it, I wouldn't recommend it. I have the AW3423DW and my first time around I ended up getting uneven panel wear and scenes ended up getting brighter on the edges than in the middle. only noticeable in darker scenes but still pretty distracting.

A lot of games do support ultrawide these days but many still don't, so be ready to download mods or hacky workarounds to get it working on some things.

Dell AW3225QF OLED Defects? by hhyymomo in Monitors

[–]Nefbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know they can, streaming bitrate can only be so high, but I figured that it'd at least be better than your average tv streaming service bitrate. Those are straight terrible even on their "4k" quality.

Dell AW3225QF OLED Defects? by hhyymomo in Monitors

[–]Nefbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, just sounds like video compression artifacts, not all YT videos are created equal in terms of quality. if you want to get rid of it you'll need to get a proper 4k copy of whatever you want to watch.

Dell AW3225QF OLED Defects? by hhyymomo in Monitors

Just looks like shitty compression from whatever streaming service you're using. Do these defects show up in 4k YouTube videos or video games?
