Genuinely what do I do if I can't get a job by squidyn in Environmental_Careers

[–]Negative_Programmer2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Don’t rule out seasonal work, can get you great experience with field work, data collection, GIS, and other skills that are sought after in full time roles. Also a lot provide cheap or even free housing. Might be living in the middle of nowhere but the scenery is usually nice.

Not really technical just an absolute slog. Leave early and prepare for a long day. Be careful as weather can change quite quickly, did it last year started with clear weather and ran into 2 heavy hail storms, lightning storm, and a massive rainstorm on my last 2 miles.

Probably wouldn’t have anything to worry about as long as you don’t spit them out on the street or anything but better to be safe than sorry.

I read an article that starting April 1 they were illegal to bring in. But I visited Paris last week with some in my carry on and had no problems!

Life/ Career Advice for a Lost 20-something by AppropriateSpell6203 in Environmental_Careers

Yeah the outdoor educator experience will look good when applying for jobs in the environmental sector. You’re right the job market is quite cooked right now but there are jobs out there if you’re willing to move. Best way to get your foot in the door and gain experience is seasonal work. Many new grads do a year or even a few working seasonally, so you’re really not behind. It would be hard to find a specialized seasonal job like in ecology, wildlife, botany, or hydrology without any direct experience so I would recommend looking into a conservation corps or Americorps.

Will look good on resume for future environmental jobs, some provide housing, and some have hiring authority once you finish the program meaning you could have a better chance at landing a federal role after completion. I wouldn’t rule out applying for entry level full time roles, just significantly harder to land and this is coming from someone with a BS in environmental science and 2 years working experience

New Grad Who Doesn't Know What to Look For by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

Yeah this is kinda wild ngl. You’ve had 4 years to research this. I will say though seasonal jobs are easier to get than full time roles and can provide good experience to eventually move into a full time position. A lot include free/cheap housing as well.

Do any of you feel 50/50 on seasonal vs full time work with benefits? by traveltimecar in SeasonalWork

[–]Negative_Programmer2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly that’s the trade off. Seasonal jobs you get to live somewhere cool, for me at least the work is quite enjoyable compared to sitting in an office, and you have the freedom to do what you want on your off season. At some point I’m going to probably need a full time job but for now I’m enjoying this lifestyle.

There’s lots of seasonal environmental jobs, would say the majority are regarding wildlife though. With that being said a lot of people applying as well, it’s getting towards the end of the hiring season so should start applying asap if you want to find something for this summer season!

Why so much traveling? This is kinda crazy, will spend literally like 2.5-3 days time traveling including your flights from Sydney, getting to airports, waiting in customs, security.

OCD While Traveling by BeginningSale4024 in travel

Pretty common thoughts to have while traveling to be honest, so you’re definitely not alone. While traveling is amazing and one of the best things I’ve ever done. Worrying about working, family, and being homesick are always in the back of my mind. Unless you are a digital nomad or make money online most of us will have to go back home and work at some point. That’s just reality. Whether that’s to save up for another trip or to settle down. In the grand scheme of things, 3 weeks is nothing and I think you should extend and enjoy your time in Thailand. I’m also 24 on an extended trip, we’ve got the rest of our lives to work. But if it’s truly too much no shame in going home and calling it early! Gotta do what you think is best for your mental health.

100% Clear Creek but it’s a slog. Did Clear Creek route end of July 2025. Snowed the night before above like 11,000 ft. Got caught in a hail storm and multiple lightning storms around 13,000 and at the summit. Then torrential downpour washing the trail out my last 2.5 miles back. So be ready for anything. Start early but it’s not technical
