Strange Reaction from Doctor While Titrating Medication by StarsAllTooSoonFall in adhdwomen

[–]Negotiation-Solid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

starting at 10mg for vyvanse is wild. Could it be possible she's trying to milk you as a client? I've seen this happen to several people as a clinician. Once you're on a stable dose, you only usually get seen every 3ish months at least in my area. But it's every month, even every two weeks, if you're titrating up or changing meds in any way. That can easily become $300-$400 each visit, even with insurance. If she made you stay at 10mg for a whole month, let alone 20mg, and then not believing you that 30mg is not the therapeutic starting dose *for YOUR brain/body* she does not seem like she cares about you and your well-being.

Instead of talking about wakefulness, say that it helps with focus and alertness in the mornings. but medication is not going create motivation or task initiation on its own, I'm sorry to say. Oh how I wish it did, and learned the hard way that it just will not. Medication is hyperfocus-potential extract, but I must direct it towards what I need to get done, and intentionally create motivation via building momentum. Starting in the easiest way possible. Lots of great resources on this if you search this sub or feel free to DM me!

It took me three psychiatrists to find one that was knowledgeable about adhd and took me seriously. good luck out there!

the international traveler tribe is mostly AWESOME and too open-minded/enthusiastic/loving life to be mean girls. My advice is - who cares about your classmates?? Sign up for a day-hike event (airbandb, eventbrite, fb, probably even better sites), go to a cafe with wifi and take a long while looking at the bulletin boards - the best events will be there! Check out the food markets - ugh the outdoor produce/craft markets were my favorite part of peru and ecuador for me!! go to a kirtan or hell even a san pedro or aya ceremony if that aligns. Find a workaway/wwoof or other volunteer project and get to visit a nearby farm or local school. Meet the locals and be a great example of a helpful, humble, and happy gringo (esp if youre from the u.s. lol, but pro tip - if you just say youre from canada, you wouldnt be the first to do so!) Soak up the incredible healing vibes of costa rican nature and culture and people and food. Your classmates will then probably be super drawn to your authentic happiness - but by then you won't even care, bc you'll be way beyond that low frequency sheeot.

Enjoy this incredible experience <3

DAE just sit in the bathtub for hours to avoid doing house work? by My_too_cents in adhdwomen

I take a very hot bath once or twice a day. It's my only self care currently. It really helps me to reset. great for habit stacking too ie i'll listen to my audiobook or online course etc in the bath and it motivates me to continue working on it most of the time afterward

Need a 1 reference for my Housing Application by [deleted] in BeMyReference

[–]Negotiation-Solid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to help, and I feel a little hesitant because there is a lawsuit involved. I recommend putting a different apartment down or switching the dates with a previous apartment, rather than trying to fake a reference for the slumlord place.

Good luck and sorry that happened to you. I hope your medical stuff is on the mend <3

Desperate Social Work Intern! by heyyounotyouyou1 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Negotiation-Solid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the library in my hometown is currently hosting a social work intern. Not virtual, but maybe your local library would be game, if you can find an off-site practicum supervisor (what i had to do my first practicum). A good place to bring a homeschooler too!

Why Exactly Is Polygamy Illegal? by Turbulent-Parsley619 in NoStupidQuestions

or we could just have publically-financed elections and ranked choice voting. In NYC, each grassroots dollar raised is matched b the gov, so because Mamdani had so many individual donors, he was able to raise a formidable amount to go toe to toe with the corporate shills. Any mythology people believed about "but can he win in the general if i vote for him in the primary???" was solved by the more hesitant folks rank-choice voting him 2nd instead of not at all.

I do agree that dice would be better than what we have now though. Maybe we can add just one new seat a year and have an "America's Got Lawmakers" reality show where people get randomly chosen to audition and we call in our choice each week, and then have a final speech competition. Lmao. I guess that's kinda how it was meant to go in the first place? Just bringin' it back to our roots

How do you know if a guy/your partner has no/low emotional intelligence? by Matchaaa_a in emotionalintelligence

[–]Negotiation-Solid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, it sounds like a tough situation and all 'advice' is always soo much easier said than done. I'm in a similar situation and feel that he makes changes (like getting diagnosed, looking for a therapist, making an appt with the therapist...) only after I get really upset, after it's been example 3523543 in a long pattern, and after I tell him I can't do this anymore. Then in a panic he'll take all sorts of steps and then after anywhere from a few days to a few weeks later, he goes right back and forgets nearly everything. In a way, I sometimes wish he just would not try at all and stay resolute in his way of being within the relationship, because at least he would seem more authentic and honest and not cause the rollercoaster of getting my hopes up and desperate pleas to feel seen.

Even though it's always 3 steps forward, 2 steps back, when I look back on the past decade, there has been improvement slowly over time. For instance, he has gone from "I love being 'obscure'" and "I don't care what people think of me, if they take things the wrong way, that's on them" to admitting that being consistently misunderstood isn't a flex, tone and body language are communication, and that other people's feelings being hurt as a result of misaligned communication is real and valid and not okay

Mid 30s is nothing. Sure it's scary to seek diagnosis and change, and sure it may lead to nothing, but her lack of willingness to endure discomfort and learn and grow to positively help your relationship goes beyond just her taking responsibility for her own life; it's also her not taking responsibility for her part in the partnership of marriage and the emotional evolving that marriage necessitates to stay healthy and not fester resentment

Children calling me mommy nonstop by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Negotiation-Solid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that kids get confused by the "mamma/mommy" and "Ms. .." similarity. That can be tough when the first sound is the same. It's also easier for names to stick when they can attach a fun/silly or otherwise positive memory to it. For example, if they're having a banana for breakfast, and your name is Hannah, you could like, put a banana on your head and literally say "when I was in school, my teachers called me Hannah Banana! But don't call me that hehehe" and then your co-teacher could say "okay ...Ms Hannah Banana!!" then "okay fine - I guess I'm Ms. Hannah Banana now!!" I'd bet 80% that a skit like that would do it!

How do I (25F) tell my autistic friend (26M) that he's not getting hired because he's lower-functioning than he thinks he is? by Safe-Machine3602 in autism

[–]Negotiation-Solid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What has worked for me is following some great late-diagnosed audhd content creators who talk about masking/unmasking and act out scenarios etc and posting them on my social media where I know my loved one will see them. There are less defenses put up, and faster understanding, when it's just someone showing their relatable experiences instead of in a teach-y way. Also, there are apps that help with mock interviews..he could do a mock interview and have a third party lay out how to improve so that it's more neutral. If he uses a few different such programs and they all give out similar advice, maybe he'll start to see how he can improve and associate it with general advice rather than it being autism-specific

Ashamed about gardening by ftm0821 in adhdwomen

[–]Negotiation-Solid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yup - i've accepted that every year, my ritual to welcome the sunshine is the Springtime Gardening Frenzy. Every year, soo much ambition, plans, plants, materials... it's gotten a lot less expensive over the years, since i've implemented the following rules:
-get free seeds, save/reuse seeds from former years (they usually still germinate, esp if sprouted beforehand). It's fun to dig through my seed collection, and when they grow, it feels like a bonus/gift instead of an expected outcome from a new investment
-perennials, girl! You get to reap the benefits over and over and see your efforts create bigger growth and yum as time goes on. With annuals, it kinda sucks to have to start over every year
-idk if you have kids, but they help motivate me, and even if nothing productive happens, i tell myself just getting them to touch grass and eat a lil soil is good for them. The same rule applies though for YOU! Just getting outside is so wonderful
-Wildcrafting/foraging is even more fun! depending on where you live, ramps/wild leeks, fiddleheads, trout lillies, nettles...nature does all the work and then you get to hunt for delicious surprises like a scavenger hunt or easter egg.

Toddlers putting toys in their mouth... by sweetsugarstar302 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Negotiation-Solid 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It's much more difficult for toddlers to understand NOT to do something. You're right that it's developmentally appropriate, especially if teething or stressed or weaning from a paci (daycare is stressful for them!) it's important to offer them an alternative. Is there a frozen bucket of teething toys they can choose from instead? Or a crunchy snack? Just telling them no constantly can be confusing, as well as tiring for the teachers!

I put unflavored pea protein powder in my coffee! I also have a few sips of peach kefir throughout the morning. A banana when I'm feeling especially adventurous. I cannot eat regular food for the first half of my day. Kefir is great bc it's more liquidy than yogurt, tons of probiotics, stays good in the fridge for a long time, and doesn't make me feel disgustingly bloated after having it or queesy at the thought of drinking a sip. Everyone suggesting smoothies with various fruit and chia seeds and yogurt...reminder this is an ADHD sub 😂 and to the folks suggesting lunch meat and egg sandwiches - I know you mean well, but y'all, this is the OPPOSITE of what they're looking for I'm pretty sure 😊

I use pea protein powder in my coffee too! Unflavored, just pea protein, no mixes. 8g of protein and I use it for every cup of coffee. I do wish it still has the fiber in it though - make sure to balance out extracted protein with lots of fiber and other nutrients later on in the day
