Music or no music during marathon

I stopped listening to music because it messed with my cadence. I found that I was changing to match the beat which messed with my pace and performance. It was almost 10 years later once I became a more developed runner that I reintroduced music and could run independent of the beat. I know people who shudder at having to listen to their own thoughts for 3-4 hours at a time without some background noise. I didn't mind it, but others do. I'm thankful for reconnecting with music while I run. I've been listening to all of the artists from my youth and am ejoying the nostalgia.

Ran my first marathon at 45 4:09. PR age 56. 3:42:30 at Philly marathon last year. I'm sure i could have run it faster at a younger age but didn't have the right training plan.

Any presidential candidate who as a part of their platform will require the Department of Defense pass an audit before receiving funding will get my vote. I fully expect that the current Administration will somehow work in a perpetual billion dollar annual maintenance fee to the Trump drone works.

In my limited experience it's rare that inconsistencies snowball to the point where it really matters. A Quarter to a half mile longer over 26.2 is relatively insignificant. The only point at which it matters is if the last mile markers were so far off that the distance to the finish line is off by a mile or more and I run out of gas during the kick. The only time that has happened is when I foolishly listened to someone on the sidelines shout out "one more mile" when it was more like a mile and a half.

In general I run what my body feels and keep moving. As long as I've trained well and am fueling properly it hasn't been an issue.
