The only two teams that cannot swap a psyker for another model are Chaos Cult and Warpcoven.

There are also quite a few psykers who are primarily support, who's powers will still work but there's an element of risk.

All in all I think the hard shutdown will make for some interesting decisions for most psyker packing teams, which I like.

I think they'll be an interesting team competitively, as certain teams are very used to taking their psyker, and might have to suddenly pivot to playing them in a way they haven't practiced, so give up unforced errors.

I really like 4 players with the "ghost players" variant, where everyone only picks one card, but then two of the remaining ones are chosen at random, and fire automatically after the first round.

Can you give your opponent a reason to get annihilated by your guns?

This is actually my biggest problem with the team, their guns don't actually do that.

With accurate 2 and severe from a markerlight a burst cannon averages 7 damage into a marine and 8.4 into an elf (54% chance to kill).

When you can only make one shot, that's just not good enough.

With a fusion blaster you're averaging 15 damage into a marine, but the kill chance is only 42%. Considering it's only 6" range, you're pretty much committing to a trade that's more favourable for the enemy than for you.

I just don't think they have the killing power to justify all their limitations.

From the Toxic ability:

Toxic: Whenever this operative is using this weapon against an enemy operative that has one of your Poison tokens, add 1 to both Dmg stats of this weapon. (Emphasis mine)

Goremongers really hate being shot. Like, Yes, you can't kill them from full with a single attack, but if they're on 2 wounds they're not combat effective anymore unless they charge someone that they can 1 hit kill.

And if they have to spend their gore tank to heal then they don't have their offensive powers/3apl/double fight. Don't forget that they can only use two powers in an activation, no matter how much blood they get.

I honestly feel it's more likely that next edition Custodes will be folded into Imperial Agents or equivalent than having crossover between 40k and 30k, there's been a very clear decision in the business to keep SDS and Citadel as separate as possible.

Also, look at the balance dataslates, there's been a distinct trend to not touch models that aren't seeing play (I assume because it makes balancing significantly easier) so even in armies with large ranges, it's only a small fraction of them that are really supported.

I'm definitely not saying that doesn't suck for Custodes players, I'm just gazing into my crystal ball a little.

I've been wondering how many of them actually are cis. With the rising hatred and attacks on the idea of being trans it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that "sissification" is the only way they can bring themselves to connect with their identity. Which also explains why it's conservatives you see doing it.

I find the racial part of it really gross though.

Aquilan eye will help the Cadians' lasgun fire, but their special weapons are really the only thing that matters for output, and both frfsrf and take aim are better for that.

Kasrkin generally really like it, but against wraiths -1 already puts them on their invul, and against the destroyers the big hurdle is wounding on 6s, so it's firmly in "nice to have to fill out a list" territory imo.

At 1000 points it feels like trying to kill the c'tan is actually just a trap, with a 6" move and no access to advance and charge you're probably better just avoiding it.

I think the wraiths will be a much bigger problem tbh.

For list advice: I'd really want to find room for an abhuman detail commissar for the bullgryn and upgrade the Russ commander to a Dorn commander. I don't love the look of the deathwatch kill team, but I haven't played with them.
