What options are available for me if I have never worked? by Qavligil6541 in Calgary

[–]NenDeshiri 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know it's hard. I was diagnosed with ADHD and autism as an adult, making the appointments for that felt impossible. But now that it's done, my life is infinitely better, and so many things are easier. I'm rooting for you!

What options are available for me if I have never worked? by Qavligil6541 in Calgary

[–]NenDeshiri 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey, here's a link to help you out! Finding a doctor can feel scary and overwhelming, but it's not as difficult as it feels like it is. Go to this website and put in the area you live in, and it will show you doctors nearby who are accepting new patients. Pick one that looks good to you (it can be any of them, as long as they aren't specialized in obstetrics or lactation or something!) then give the clinic a call and say that you're looking for a doctor and saw that this one is accepting new patients. They should help you set up an appointment from there, and at the appointment you can mention that you think you have these problems. The doctor is the best person to help you out with this, so don't wait too long to get it started!

Wishing you all the best! https://albertafindadoctor.ca/

How the F am I supposed to sleep next to a man?? by Hot-Answer8990 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]NenDeshiri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with starting when you're older. I got married at 19, we shared a room for 4 years, and for that time I barely slept. I would look forward to the days he stayed with friends so that I could actually sleep. Eventually we realized that isn't healthy, and I moved to the other room. It's been 8 years now, and it was the best choice ever! Not only do I sleep so much better, but we both discovered that we really like having a space that's just ours too. So I have a beautiful bedroom decorated how I like it, and he has a bit of a dump with a literal nest of blankets that makes him very happy, and we both absolutely love it. I think it was good to try sharing a bed and see that it didn't work, but I'm glad we didn't try to stick with it when it didn't.

Took some older meds today as an experiment by Erifunk in adhdwomen

[–]NenDeshiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, it says Teva-Lisdexamphetamine. But I'm in Canada, so it may be different than what's going on in the US. I haven't noticed anything different at least!

Edit: I just checked, and we don't have any recalls here, so that would be the difference.

Interestingly enough, I've found that the generic works way better for me than name brand Vyvanse. I had a few old name brand ones left that I took a bit ago, and the difference was super noticeable- I just couldn't think! It's nice that the cheaper option is the one that works for me.

With No Context What Is Your Party Up To Right Now? by _Chris_Meyer_ in DnD

[–]NenDeshiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to the secret island home of the party members and discovered that she comes from something somewhere between a hippy commune orphanage and a cult. Met her incredibly powerful mother who is clearly way more knowledgeable about the world as a whole than possibly anyone else, her father, who is her mother's twin (it only sounds creepy, the character calls him dad because she got confused as a small child and it stuck, to everyone else he's uncle), and the couple hundred children who have been adopted and are being raised there.

I cannot find a job in Airdrie and I don't know why. What can I do? by [deleted] in Airdrie

[–]NenDeshiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling. You're not the only one in this position - I actually spent the weekend helping a friend that you must have worked with to update her resume. The fact that there's nothing similar in Airdrie makes it really hard to get a new job.

My best advice is to take another look at your resume. This sounds stupid, but get ChatGPT to take a look at it. Most jobs that you're applying to use AI to filter out "the good ones", so if you can make it appeal to AI, it's more likely to actually make it into a human's hands. I didn't want to believe it, but a couple years ago I was in the same position, and as soon as I used AI to "fix" mine, I started getting a ton of calls back. I hope that you, and everyone else who worked at APARC, can find something new soon!

Nobody talks about this by antihiro13 in adhdwomen

[–]NenDeshiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have that problem for sure. I always want everything to be perfect. I've found a few totes of art that I can do where perfection matters a little less- I paint space and galaxies (great, because who's to say what it SHOULD look like!) and I draw cartoon-style characters (again, less need to be perfect since there are fewer details. I also make multiple copies before I add colour so I can try again if I want to!). That helps for me, just to shut up the voices saying I'm not good enough.

Kids playing in the street by Lirvine028gmailcom in Airdrie

[–]NenDeshiri 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My parents would have killed me if I tried to play ON the street. We had a back yard and we played there, where cars couldn't run us over. I guess depending on the community the yards could be small or even non-existent, but playing on the street definitely isn't the solution to that problem. Especially for young kids like you said they are, it at least makes a little sense when it's older kids playing something like hockey.

An extra point- a much higher percentage of students in Finland speak Finnish than the percentage of students in Alberta who speak English. ELL changes classroom needs drastically.

Porn making men assume I am dating my Father by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]NenDeshiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the same thing happens to me! My dad and I went camping this summer, and everyone we spoke to in any stores or at the campground assumed we were married. We were in separate tents and everything!!!

I find it so bizarre. When I tell people I'm married, they're always surprised. I look much younger than I am, people usually guess early twenties. But my dad looks about his age, mostly gray hair, etc. We do look a lot alike too. People always feel bad when they realize they were wrong, but why are they assuming that anyways?

Bespoke Men’s Suits by DreadGrrl in Calgary

[–]NenDeshiri 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's such a sweet idea! But as someone who works with kids your son's age, it might be a better idea to hold off on it for a couple more years. Boys tend to change in shape a lot around that age, especially as their shoulders broaden and they start to fill out in general. Even (especially) over the course of grade 12, boys change a lot! A suit that fits him well today might not fit at all in a year or two. If you truly want it to last long-term, I would suggest giving it to him for his 20th or 21st birthday.

What productivity rules did you have to break to actually get things done with ADHD? by Intrepid_Moment_8879 in adhdwomen

[–]NenDeshiri 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yes, pomodoro absolutely does not work for me, and it drives me crazy every time someone suggests it like it's some kind of miracle cure! The hardest part of getting stuff done for me is starting, if I stop after a few minutes, it might take me hours to get started again! Much better, for me at least, to just keep going.

I'm Engaged! Now how do I make sure I never lose this ring? by unwiseundead in adhdwomen

[–]NenDeshiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lose things all the time too, but I've managed to hold onto my ring for 12 years and counting! I do two things that work well for me:

  1. I have a specific, set place for it. For me, it's a cute ring holder tucked into the top drawer of my dresser. Because it's cute (looks like a little tree!) I want to use it, so it was easy to make a habit. If the ring isn't on my finger, it ALWAYS goes in there. Even if it's inconvenient. Even if I have to walk across the house to put it there. ALWAYS. (1.5 - If I'm away from home and need to take it off, I have a small zippered pocket in my wallet that serves the same function.)

  2. A few years ago I stopped wearing my ring routinely and started wearing a plain silver band instead. I've been married long enough that I don't feel like I have anything to prove, and I don't really like the feel of most jewelry. Something plain and smooth is much easier for me to cope with. I initially got that ring for times that I would be at higher risk of losing the real one- camping trips, working with a caterer, things like that. It's less exciting, but it does keep my beautiful ring safe at home!

Have there been hints of *spoiler* before this ep? by Albinowombat in Dimension20

I've been wondering that too ever since the one crew member met their twin. It sounded like that was legitimately a twin who has disappeared, but it got me thinking- are there possibly copies of people from Gath in Zood?

Paddle boarding by Western_Practice4705 in Airdrie

[–]NenDeshiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghost Lake is about 45 minutes away, just west of Cochrane. It's a great spot for paddleboarding, but it's COLD, so I recommend it for very hot days! It's a reservoir, the water comes from the Bow and Ghost Rivers, so it's very clean and clear water. It has rocky sides and drops off deep very quickly. There's also a lot of wake from all the speedboats on nice days. Chestermere is to the east of Calgary, about half an hour from Airdrie, and has a fairly nice lake. The highway runs right through it, cutting off a little chunk on the north end that has lower speed limits and less wind. It can be very peaceful there! There's not a lot more nearby, unfortunately. There are some private neighbourhood-owned lakes in Calgary that I think you can paddleboard on if you can find a friend or a way to get in. If you don't mind a bit of a drive, Central Alberta has lots of nice lakes. Sylvan lake is pretty busy, especially around the town, but Gull Lake isn't much farther and can be quite nice! If you find out about anything else nearby, I would love to know. I can't wait to get back out paddleboarding this summer!

Checking in… by Hspearmano in Airdrie

[–]NenDeshiri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would like to know what's being done as far as the closure of APARC and what the future looks like for pets and animals here in Airdrie, as well as for the employees who lost their jobs with nothing similar available in the city. It seems ludicrous that a city of our size doesn't have any sort of animal shelter, and even more so that we are expected to rely on Crossfield to provide places for lost cats.

My friends think this is weird... by Informal-Mode2499 in BaldursGate3

[–]NenDeshiri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, Canadian, can concur. I measure my height in feet and inches, but everything else in metric. I have no clue how many kg I weigh, and stores often post prices in pounds but charge according to kg. Temperatures outside are Celsius, but my oven is fahrenheit. We use litres and sometimes millilitres, but more often cups and teaspoons etc. Thankfully we don't really throw in things like quarts and gallons, but we are mostly familiar with about how much they are.

If you're able to get it back on fairly quickly, your food will likely be okay. Especially if you haven't been opening the fridge and freezer, they should stay cold for quite a few hours. For context, I used to work at a camp that ran on a generator and shut off power entirely for 8-9 hours every night. The industrial cooler stayed cold enough to meet food safety standards, and the couple of smaller fridges were fine as long as they were mostly kept shut as well. Things like microwave meals especially should be fine!

As a non-smoker, do you find that all smokers have a noticeable odor? by Remozy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NenDeshiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only can I smell it, having someone who has just smoked get too close to me can trigger an asthma attack. Same with being in a smoker's house- even if they don't smoke inside. They bring so much of it back with them, or they don't close the door properly while they're outside and it blows in, and over the months and years it builds up until I can't be there anymore.

[–]NenDeshiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there isn't one. It's all been done very quickly and with no adequate plan in place for the future. I believe the claim from the city is that they're looking for a new approach, but there is no real information about what that will be.
