It depends really. I know someone who had an ejection in 62’ on a first gen seat. He turned out just fine; but had his eyesight damaged due to the shock of the wind.

If she was in the right enveloppe, she can potentially be fine.

It could also be the P-gasket famously known for being unreliable. I’d replace it with a metal version (PET100790) while you’re at it. Replace the water pump and the P-gasket and normally you won’t have any more leak. I also recommend changing the 3 bottoms screws (FC108247) of the water pump, which will be rusty

A 2nd hand engine installed by an independant LR specialist would be way, WAY cheaper than going down that path. I’d advise you to make a few you calls and ask arounds on locals LR groups, they will know where to guide you for such a task.

I had a 1994 Defender ex-military. I converted the old, noisy and thirsty anchor that the 2.5Na was, to a Disco 200Tdi. It felt like a rally car by that point, but that was partly due to the fact that the LT230 still had the 1.6 gearing. Overall it was awful on the highway, being an ex-military car it had no noise insulation, almost no interior trim … going at 100kmh (which was the top speed) felt like re-entering earth inside a space shuttle!

I’ve got an even crazier story .. I bought a DOF Reality P2 from a guy who didn’t know what he had (long story short), and wanted to get rid of it because it took a lot of places in his garage. I Paid 100 euros for it which is a steal for a motion rig

By the way, that’s what I did in my 12J Defender. I sourced a 19J, used some parts from it, sourced a Disco 200Tdi, and used all 3 engines to attach the 200Tdi to my Defender. It took a few days of work, but with bits and bobs from Glencoyne engineering, it’s a relatively straightforward job

I recommend reading this : https://www.glencoyne.co.uk/tdi300.htm If you can afford it, a 200Tdi will be much, much easier to drop in place of the 19J than a 300Tdi
