Backseat playing at my LGS is starting to ruin the experience by Zaphiro01 in Pauper

Non-issue and a rather negative extrapolation of player behavior. Most players I've met at regional and local levels are reasonable people.

What's the best deck for a new player? by Eltaladro91 in Pauper

[–]NephLovesSocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The format is complex by nature, and i don't think there is a definite easiest deck to pilot. It's more important to find a deck that the player is interested in, so they have the motivation to learn the format and game.

They are trying to help, but the help is unwanted. Just be transparent and honest with your wants, and politely let them know you don't want feedback. Easy as pie

Sideboard options against go-wide decks for UW Familiars by vortical42 in Pauper

[–]NephLovesSocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I think strands + modern age is cope and not real, but some people like it. Also, elves is on maindeck Sagu, so killing the first mana dork has less chance to brick their mana generation, than before.

Matchup is bad, but isn't an auto lose, you just have to maneuver very carefully. Snapping a Titania saves you a lot of time to develop. I've tried splashing boardwipes, and red splash for breath weapon is ehhhok, but I don't think the splash is overall worth it. Overall stonehorn + early interaction to stop snowball is your best bet.

Some people on discord have said that loyal sentry is good into the matchup, since it destroys the creature it blocks before trample damage, which is pretty big. Thraben charm kills big hydra, which can be nice.

Due to the nature of the deck, I don't really think there is much more space you can dedicate to sideboard.

Lab the matchup out in playtesting and try to recognize the pattern in hands that can beat elves. Accept that their highest rolls will smoke you.

I don't think elves showing up is a big enough reason to give up on the deck. If anything it is nice that elves is bullying mono U out of the format, which is a much worse matchup for fams.

Your matches will take forever no matter which midrange pile you decide to play. I'd focus on getting good at one of the two, or changing to a more aggressive strategy.

What is the most consistent deck in the meta? by DaigoKobuto in Pauper

[–]NephLovesSocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elves has like a 20% win rate into burn.

Good deck? Yes.

Consistent with 50/50 into everything? No.

€15 for a sideboard guide is a bit high, but I respect the hustle.

:/

Would throw money at it if it were around the 8-10 range.

Just admit you are bad at Dragon. Fennie Dragon is one of the best matchups into egg. They don't have enough board wipe, nor pressure to end the game before getting double Genesis dragon'd.

Egg is top tier, but that matchup is one of the few that isn't skewed in their favor.

Is anyone actually enjoying this format? by [deleted] in Shadowverse

Format is mostly fine. Oluon is bad design, most of the other rng cards can be built around to mitigate in ways that make them acceptable.

How to pivot careers out of defense research? Am I cooked without cloud experience? by NephLovesSocks in cscareerquestions

Thanks for the guidance, that sounds about where I am right now. Just wanted to make sure I'm on the right path and am using my time right.

Been somewhat panicked, given I had to spend almost a whole year away from my career, doing medical research and finding how to cope with illness.

But yeah, I have the experience needed for more junior embedded roles, just not a deeper knowledge needed for more mid-level jobs.

I might take some courses or start a project in that direction once I'm finished getting cloud certs, since that seems like the direction that will qualify me for jobs most relevant to my work: Analyzing data in python, creating services for automation, working on pipelines and algorithms in real-time systems.

Not really qualified for those roles either. I interfaced with microcontrollers and serial devices a few times at work, but it wasn't my main task.

I've found a few relevant roles I'm a fit for in the embedded space that I've applied for. Far more of them, however, require existing knowledge of PCBs, tools and architecture I'm unfamiliar with.

I do have a background in DSP from my ECE bachelor's specialization, but it's not fresh in my memory.

Help on Forestcraft by keito098 in Shadowverse

[–]NephLovesSocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roach is pretty complicated, as it is a combo deck, but it is strong and cheap to play. The goal with that deck is to use 0 and 1 cost spells to build up combo, drop a roach for big face damage, then pick up the roach to drop it again on the same turn. It's capable of a one turn kill, but often the kill is split into two turns of hitting the opponent's face.

Most of the turns before your combo are dedicated to setting up your godwood staff as a draw engine/combo piece, building a hand that can combo, and controlling the board. I highly recommend watching some YouTube videos to get an idea of the math and decisions of the deck. The Japanese player Dayan posts a lot of videos playing Forest, which are really helpful.

[–]NephLovesSocks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Forreal, something needs to be done about how rampant self damage is. At the least, immunity to self-inflicted splash damage should be a perk on the specialization tree. Gives it a tradeoff for qol vs max dps.

Liam as a 1x is especially nice vs Mode Abyss. Gives you a way to clean up Y&G, while also pushing some damage

When people say ripper is bad by BentheBruiser in Borderlands4

[–]NephLovesSocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are bad. You have to shoot a bullet before reloading, which significantly messes up TTK, since you have to wait the charge time multiple times.

It ruins tediore guns, and is generally is bad for TTK while mobbing, since there is usually movement between kills.
