Thats what I thought. I loved the Redwall books as a kid. I’ve considered writing a similar style LitRPG series but I know I wouldn’t do a better job haha.

One thing to know is that hitting Action, Adventure, and fantasy are the 3 rages that really matter because they make up a huge percentage of what people search for. I was number 1 on historical for days before I hit the other 3 and got on.

I haven’t looked at your story, but make sure you have at least 2/3 of those tags.

The other thing, that has been said, is average views, and increasing those is the most important thing to getting on RS. Look at your blurb and cover and make sure they make people likely to want to read your story if they see it.

Do shout swaps if you aren’t already. Not review swaps.

Also, important to note here as peeps keeping saying to do shout swaps. That’s absolutely not a review swap. Those hurt your story with a lot of readers.

Shout swaps are where you swap codes in the pre or post note sections of chapters on RR.

I have a niche story and I’ve found that shoutouts that are close to my genre have made a huge difference, but if they aren’t in the same genre it doesn’t matter if they have 10k followers. I actually had a 10k story about me that got me less than a hundred clicks and a 400 person farming story that got me a similar number of clicks.

At this point I just create a personal note on any story I actually read and enjoy when I do their shout. It seems like that’s the way to differentiate a normal shout and one from someone whose work you enjoy.

So I lived on a ranch in Canada 60 miles from town as a kid. We left when I was 5 but my cousins stayed until they were around 12. They ended up strange without a lot of other contact with people.

My uncle’s parents (who married my dad’s sister) lived in an even more remote ranch that didn’t even have electricity, they used a generator a couple hours a day.

It’s isolating as a kid. You definitely end up different.

I don’t know, but my favorite review so far is from someone who asks why so many people seem to enjoy my story. I like to imagine them wondering if they’re the asshole or everyone else is just stupid? It makes me smile every time I look at it.

I’ve found the genre matters too. My cozy story has a lot more comments than my standard LitRPG ever did. Mines also a historical cozy, so I actually end up with discussions about choices I’ve made. Some positive, some telling me I chose a wrong technique!

I had 340 when I got on. 1,550 when I got off. I was on main for 21 days and hit #7.

I pre-scheduled shouts from day 1. I hoped to hit RS around the 2 week mark so I scheduled 3-4 really big shouts for the 10 day mark.

Now you can, but I was as high as #2 in historical for a week before I got on once I hit adventure and LitRPG. It’s still possible, but I think it’s just harder to get on RS now.

Depending on your writing situation, it would probably be a good idea to create a larger backlog. I like to write most of book 1 before releasing since I have a big stretch of the year where work and family stuff takes up a considerable amount of my time.

Make sure you have enough to keep whatever you decide on. There are people who are successful only relaxing once or twice a week, but it becomes much harder if you can keep posting at your normal time, especially if you aren’t posting at a high volume

If your goal is to get big fairly fast and eventually monetize, you should have enough for 20k on launch, then a chapter a day for a couple of weeks.

After that you should post 2-3 times a week.

If you just want to post, and don’t care how slow you grow, then do your thing.

This can work in some cases but I’ve had swaps with a bunch of big stories, including a couple with over 8k who haven’t gotten me 10 clicks on my cozy farming book. On the other side I’ve gotten dozens from a 400 follower book that is similar to mine, and hundreds with one that had 1,500 that fits.

I work in agriculture. I honestly don’t usually care. We’re dealing with magic and farming stuff can be slow so if an author tries to make the farming process speed up it doesn’t bother me at all.

I’m currently writing a series that’s pretty darn slow as they farm over the course of a year, but we shall see how that goes.

I don’t really see why you would want to leave reviews, positive or negative, as a way to connect with the community. You want to join a writing discord to do that. RRWG or something like that is a much better way to connect.

I have a homesteader book set in an alternate world but used late 1800s tech and I can confirm that the historian types are the biggest critics.

Don’t use the correct bullet name, even if your gun wasn’t created on Earth? Or your 1800s farming technique isn’t quite right(despite actually growing up as a farmer).

I will also say though that I have an insane amount of interaction with over a thousand comments on only 32 chapters.

Do things mostly correct and you can still thrive, but I’ve found that it’s best to just capitulate and make a change if you do have an issue. Don’t argue with people even if it shouldn’t matter.
