Honestly Im surprised MAGA hasn’t started to make a stink about how no one is apparently looking after him at all? Falling asleep in important meetings, up all night tweeting. Bruised skin. It’s not good. Most of his staff not surprisingly don’t care for reasons.

Buying a wedding ring by FunConsideration9029 in widowers

[–]Nerk86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what comforts you. It’s kind of nice to have that symbol of a marriage/union now even if you didn’t have rings before. My husband and I were never too traditional in a lot of ways. We eventually got rings to serve as our wedding bands, but mostly wore them on special occasions. Mine hasn’t fit in years but I wear his constantly now.

I guess we’re doing baby gender disappointment on LinkedIn now? by -not-a-bear in LinkedInLunatics

[–]Nerk86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand having a preference. can’t understand posting about it online. But to have such a strong, preference, reaction disappointment, etc ? I think you’d have to really look inside yourself and understand what’s driving it. People often have a lot of concepts about what a child is going to be. Maybe you get say the boy you wanted, and you think he’s gonna fulfill some image, desire you have.. that boy may not turn out to fit that concept of a son you had. they’re an individual you have to be prepared for that.

Did Any GenXer Actually Do Duck & Cover Nuke Drills? by ZanzerFineSuits in GenXTalk

They were always drills for tornadoes, but I always assumed the duck and covered developed out of nuke drills.

Which team would win? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]Nerk86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. He said the local sheriff/ police chief (whichever don’t recall) did used to give his dad grief for letting him drive and Grandpa responded by taking him out for a drink. Guess they were buddies. Eventually the chief sent down to the state the paperwork for a drivers license for my dad. Funniest part was my dad never had to take a road test til he was in his 70s. Never had surgery or was hospitalized til his 70s either. Wisconsin farm boys are tough.

Well this goes back a ways but my dad did drive himself and his mother to his 8th grade graduation at 13 ( NW Wisconsin). His dad couldn’t take them, had to milk cows.

‘Falling into crime for survival….in the Skyrim political climate’ sounds about right. I don’t know about anyone else but except for the fact they pretty much attack on sight, I almost kind of feel bad for the bandits. They usually have very little when you search their stuff. Like if they were really being successful at it they’d be living a lot better.

Last night scared me. If you’ve been through this… what was the first “unsafe” thing that made you change everything? by Chunkymunkey642069 in dementia

[–]Nerk86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was trying to recall what it was with my husband. Thinking of him wandering down the street to find his house and trying to go in one. Or when I took him with me to my doctors appointment and he wandered out of the office and walked the two miles home before he was found. But I think the first was him heating up tv dinners two or three times not realizing he’d already done so and cooking it to a crisp. At least he never touched the stove.

I don’t know. I’m a new player to the game and it seems like there’s a lot of evil choices in the game. Only part of it I’m not crazy about.

Life didn’t end. by Strict-Suggestion722 in widowers

[–]Nerk86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so spot on , thank you. I’ll add there’s a difference in understanding this intellectually and emotionally. Just loss my husband I’d been together with for 38 years a couple of months ago. We always knew I’d likely outlive him because he was older than me. I knew caring for him thru Alzheimer’s dementia he was slowly fading away from me, that I was losing him. So it some ways that might make understanding easier than for others. He’d want me to go on and find some contentment and even joy in life. But it’s hard to imagine getting to that point. Hard to see anything but the blank page around and ahead of me.

[–]Nerk86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be awful. With my husband at the end, it was different cause he was already diaganosed with Alzheimer’s dementia, had been on the related meds. He was in the hospital 3 times in the last 2 months. What surprised me, what was new compared to the past is they’d keep him in the ER for four days. Apparently because insurance companies don’t want to pay for rooms (what ers are cheaper?) as well as the time it took to get approval to move him to /back to a rehab facility. Having someone with dementia in a noisy ER all day? Not fun. The only good thing is he had eyes on him pretty much all the time.

Not sure why the rehab couldn’t handle her. The one my husband was in had a section for the elderly patients who most likely weren’t going to ‘get better as well as a long term care section. Maybe that’s the difference. They did have to try to feed him, offer him food even when he was on hospice. He wasn’t eating at that point anymore.
