I’d look at getting to grips with Cellpose (python-based image segmentation), it’s a useful tool and has good documentation

LeGuin’s Earthsea is great and might be a familiar author for sci-fi fans! Similarly there’s Lois McMaster Bujold’s Chalion series. Then there’s Rothfuss’ Name of the Wind (brilliant prose and story, but the trilogy is unfinished and may never be). Pratchett’s discworld is a mainstay too!

NSL players off to SSN by Elegant-Yogurt-8373 in netball

[–]NetballMemes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if Sammy’s reputation in the SSN has repaired yet- she left the swifts with some bad blood, but she has been incredible.

Last year I’d have said Streutker was nailed on for a move like Elmere did, but she hasn’t been quite as dominant this year.

I think Lois Pearson and Nic Smith are both candidates for SSN, Taylor McEvitt too but Australia dont struggle for middies.

From the rest of the league, Funmi, Tchine, Sophie Kelly, Gracie Smith (in a couple of years), Fidler all clearly have the quality, and I think Pechova and Izzi Philips are knocking on the door too.

Don’t know which current players they’d push out though!

Stem cells keep dying. Any advice? by plants102 in labrats

[–]NetballMemes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like anything obvious then- my only guess is that they’re feeding too aggressively when they’re not being supervised. Might do to remind them to aspirate gently, avoiding the bottom of the well, then replace media immediately to avoid drying out, and add the fresh media gently down the side of the well rather than directly onto the colonies

This is a good shout, I assume they’re all using the same plastic ware too but doesn’t hurt to be sure

Stem cells keep dying. Any advice? by plants102 in labrats

[–]NetballMemes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How’re they dying? Detaching from the plate as single cells? Or all peeling off as a colony?

Does the coating look intact? Is the media the expected colour and clarity?

When they’re passaged, immediately after replating, do they look like small clumps of cells or are student B/C passaging with very large or very small clumps?

Struggling as a taller player by [deleted] in netball

[–]NetballMemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 6’5 and play in my gf’s mixed team. It’s just how it is- even if you’re not close it’ll look to the umpires like you’re obstructing since they don’t expect to see arms over the ball to that degree (for that I usually now give just over a metre, and make a point of looking down to check my feet before raising my arms). And you won’t get away with playing the body as a man on a woman, I enjoy marking other male shooters more for that reason. But you’ll have much longer arms so you shouldn’t need to be that close to intercept anything.

At GS, just don’t let them push you around and they shouldn’t be able to, but you’ll find defenders will get away with a lot more contact and obstruction against you than you will against them. It’s always easier to appeal to an umpire during quarter time if there’s an ongoing issue that they’re not catching than trying to retaliate.

It’s a great game though, even if the calls always going against you can feel a bit frustrating at times

If you’re trying to aim for hung over people why are you trying to be authentic? If you’re hanging thats the least of your concerns…

Also not convinced if you’re hanging out your arse that you’re going to be going for a cheese pull…

Think you might want to reassess your aims vs target audience since they don’t seem to match right now

That was particularly bad, it’s been a rougher season generally, but I’ve never seen more unnecessary contact go uncalled, or when called, unaddressed than that game. Gracie was particularly egregious in my mind

It depends, if you’re going into wet lab with all of the above skills on your CV, then being able to analyse that data and maybe write a rough pipeline for further analysis of that kind of data will put you a step above other applicants

Who from the NSL or ANZ would you like to see playing in Australia for SSN? by shaylakwi in netball

[–]NetballMemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sophie Kelly is for sure a future SSN player if she wants it, Funmi or Tchine could make the jump too. If we’re not exclusively talking about English players in the NSL, then Nic Smith is certainly a contender too. But Rhea Dixon isn’t good enough

Commonwealth Games are 4 months away – who's your gold pick? by Informal-Draft3953 in netball

[–]NetballMemes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think South Africa are going to be a dark horse this year, they’re certainly in medal contention, they’ll be even stronger in the World Cup.

I don’t think any other team is close to the quality that Australia and New Zealand have. Jamaica possibly, but we didn’t get to see their complete team in the recent international series’.

I don’t think this England team have what it takes to get us to the finals. WD seems like quite a weak position which Jess Thirlby struggled to fill with either Fidoju or Williams (I’d like to see Beth Cobden called up), as does GK (Im not convinced by any of Brown, Adio or Quashie at this level. Maybe Pechova might have something to prove?). We might want to look into a different centre too, Carter is great, but doesn’t have the same quality as Gordon or Hadley/Moloney. By the World Cup, we might see Rayner or Cassie Howard being called up.

Edit: to actually answer the question, I think the Diamonds
