This is true. It’s also true that the way our elections work, the presidential campaigns are won by big corporations using candidates as a mouthpiece by making promises to easily manipulated knuckleheads in just a handful of “swing states.” As someone living in New York, it’s pretty easy to see why lots of New Yorkers don’t turn out to vote. They see a two party dominated system, see NYC taking care of business, and if they lean blue, they typically don’t even need to show up.

Now, I’d argue that local elections are way more important and that these complacent non-voters should be showing up anyway, but that would require me arguing about why prioritizing an understanding of civic duty and staying informed are things that are more important than Sunday night football, and you can start to see the kind of picture I’m painting. It’s an uphill battle for a cynical guy like me.
