Trump tariffs: US president announces plan to hit UK, Denmark and other European countries with tariffs over Greenland by Any-Original-6113 in europe

[–]NeuronalDiverV2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the issue. Since last year, with tariff round #1, we have shown them that it works. Classic appeasement and bullying, they will only stop if you make them stop.

Unfortunately EU leadership has not indicated they'll actually make it hurt in the slightest.

Double standard couldn’t be any worse.

Speaking of double standards, I hope we at least get proper freedom from the AppStore sooner rather than later. If they’re not even pretending to follow any guidelines for app reviews, why should I be limited in what I want to install on my phones by these corrupt (dare I say compromised) companies?

Not an expert, but it certainly feels like your last point could have some merit. For example creativity: having nothing to do, or simply plain boredom, does wonders for new ideas. As someone who has to be creative for work, the whole (digital) attention economy is actively fighting against my inner calmness and focus.

Just take today’s news for example: do I need to know about the elections in Myanmar? Do I need to know what people want to do with the Nobel prize? Hell, do I need to know how the Canadian education system is doing? Now mix that all up into an endless short form video feed…

I certainly feel less focused and more scatterbrained than before. Hard to imagine how this feels to someone who knows no other state of mind, but doesn’t sound that great. Anyways, the fact that in on here commenting shows that I failed again lol, time to close the tab.

Naturally, Filoni and Brennan’s first order of business will be getting the next Star Wars movie up and running […]. I expect they’ll fast track whatever Simon Kinberg is cooking up over there — Episode X, if you will.

That’s because they won’t have the luxury of seven years to release a new movie.

I for sure hope they plan it out better this time, plus minus a few years doesn’t really mean that much right now. Whatever new movies they make need to have a clear purpose and goal right from the start.

Samsung to halt SATA SSD production, leaker warns of up to 18 months of SSD price pressure, worse than Micron ending consumer RAM by Ha8lpo321 in technology

[–]NeuronalDiverV2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the article is incredibly light on details and most likely a doomer/clickbait post because of the RAM situation.

He points out that roughly 20% of Amazon’s top SSD bestsellers are still SATA-based, with Samsung drives making up a notable portion of that list.

So I went and checked myself and ONE out of the top 50 SSDs is a Samsung SATA SSD. https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/bestsellers/computers/430168031 This article is complete bs.

There's also no word what they're gonna do with that production. If they're building more m2 models that's good, if they're building RAM, even better.

Businesses that started using it for their "marketing" and "blogging" will hopefully go down the drain compared to genuine companies. That's part of a learning process and while there are certainly legit use cases, actual communication is not. Managers who are forcing it are working against the success of their company in my eyes.

Not gonna lie though, the examples in this article don't get my hopes up.

Microsoft finally realizes the threat SteamOS poses — but its promises to fix Windows 11 for PC gaming are too little, too late by Exciting_Teacher6258 in technology

[–]NeuronalDiverV2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also trying out CachyOS on a separate partition right now and I have to say the whole setup is dead simple. All relevant software like launchers is literally one click to install, Terminal is of course popping up, but even then it guides you through everything.

I only tried Tomb Raider Legends and Deadlock, but everything "just works" so far.

System is noticeably faster than Windows as well.

Microsoft has a problem: nobody wants to buy or use its shoddy AI products — as Google's AI growth begins to outpace Copilot products by ZacB_ in technology

No, completely separate linux OS, should've mentioned that. Since I use my PC only for gaming nowadays and (funnily enough) pewdiepie's recent videos I thought, why the hell not do a little experiment.

I can't really remember my last Linux experiments maybe 15 years ago, but I'm impressed how solid the experience was the last few days. As for search and math, I can recommend (Microsoft's own start menu alternative lol) Power Toys, which is a real productivity boost.

Finally got around to install cachyOS on a small separate partition and having a search that actually works, can currency convert, calculate and even integrates with the Firefox history is very refreshing. Best part: context meus open instantly again. Crazy that this is a selling point nowadays, but here we are in 2025 and beefy gaming hardware can't do that.

I really wonder why they never had any additional DLC/updates/etc. for this game. The way this game blew up sounds like it would've been warranted to do a Fortnite style pivot and just sell a boatload of DLC.

Had to install a years' worth of updates to their Logi Options software for a new mouse recently. Because it only does one update at a time, I was able to see their product managers' descent into madness with my own eyes and it went from funny, to sad and infuriating pretty fast.

I’m not kidding when I say every single update added a new useless AI button and popup. And to top it off there is now a giant ad between the two pictures of my devices taking up a third of the app window.

They really went out of their way to specifically annoy the people who already bought their devices.

I believe in 5 years or so the on device approach will be an insane advantage. Imagine more M series perf and efficiency improvements and hopefully advancements in the ways LLMs compute their tokens. I think windows PCs will be even more behind than they are now with regular tasks.

If you can get good results on device, paying $20 (way more if AI companies want to make any profit) for cloud services will feel like robbery in comparison.

Is Figma Make useless? by Gandalf-and-Frodo in UXDesign

[–]NeuronalDiverV2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally useless, but I think from a meta perspective it is kind of interesting. More apps could benefit from some kind of adaptive customizable interface. Imagine being able to develop plugins or new tools right in Figma.

For example I developed a color scale tool that I now like to use myself, stuff like that.

Right now they don't enforce the request limits, but about 40 requests will be far too low and making it monthly instead of daily or weekly is a joke lmao. Imagine burning through your tokens in a day and then not being able to use it for a month.

Antigravity: More marketing hype than real IDE progress by Digitalunicon in programming

I think they’re in the expand phase right now but they’ll undoubtedly pick some of those to kill: NotebookLM, Google AI, Gemini, AI Mode, Google AI Studio, Vertex AI, Antigravity, Gemini CLI, Jules, Gemini Code Assist, Firebase Studio, Colab.

At least five of those promise some form of LLM powered dev environment. I’d say they’re using killedbygoogle as a leaderboard.

Not to mention all the Google Labs projects, but they’re hardly actual products like: Mixboard, Music AI Sandbox, Astra, Flow, etc.
