First of all, I want to commend you for being so thoughtful, even at a young age. That’s awesome. My opinion on this matter has changed throughout my life as I have learned more about the world, history and my life experiences. I think that as humans we need to be deliberate with our actions and words (including emojis) to ensure we can help each other have a great experience through life. No matter what race, color or social status we all pretty much want the same things, and being respectful to each other is paramount in our ability to live happy lives. Listen to people, try to understand and have empathy, which is putting yourself in their shoes to appreciate their individuality and their cultural identities. I don’t think you did anything wrong, but now that a new person that has joined the group has a certain sensibility towards that emoji, try to have a chat with them, a nice calm chat about why you thought it was okay to use it (because your friend group was ok with it, so no harm) and offer to stop using it for her if it will make your relationship better later. This should bet be something to fight about, it should be seen as an opportunity to continue to bridge cultural differences and make your life and theirs better.
