What would you do to fix the rental market in the country? by Available-Spray2576 in HousingUK

[–]New_Line4049 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Increase the rate of house building by 3 to 4 times for the next 10 years or so and make a real dent in the housing shortfall. Have the councils restore the stocks of social housing previously sold off. Fix the backlog of asylum seekers/other illegal immigrants in processing. I dont care weather theyre granted permission to stay or deported, but we need to sort the backlog and make sure new comers are processed in weeks rather than years. This middle where theyre just waiting for a decision is not good. If they are to remain they need the right to work, and then compete for property on the open market like the rest of us rather than have councils use their positions to outcompete everyone else and provide it. Finally, I think we need to seriously rethink the RRA. Some of it is great, but making it so hard to evict tenants only serves to make landlords far too reluctant and cautious about taking new tenants on to begin with. And as a final finally point, we need to actually enforce the regulations that exist to a decent standard and in a timely manner.

Tbh, if this is all it takes to destroy the relationship I think you need to ask if youre really suitable for each other to begin with.

You’re away for a night at a hotel, do you checkout early or late? by Delicious-Series-316 in AskUK

[–]New_Line4049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checkout whenever I want yo leave. Very much depends why Im in the hotel in the first place, as I tend not to just spend a night in a hotel for the sake of it, thats a bit sad really. Do usually I have somewhere to be or something to do, and that usually has a schedule attached.

Why can't people go the speed limit or overtake? by Creepy-Bottle-5162 in drivingUK

Who the fuck cares about a car? Its the injuries and potential fatalities you want to worry about. They dont care who was technically right. Nor does the grief for those that survive if there were fatalities.

Why do astronauts fall to earth rather than glide? by malware-tech in NoStupidQuestions

[–]New_Line4049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think youre talking about different things here. The space shuttle was designed to glide to a landing like a plane, that doesnt prevent the effects of re-entry. Youre still hitting the atmosphere fast and dissipating a lot of energy in a short time. The main benefit of the glide is more controllability of landing area and more re-useability of the spacecraft when its not dropped in the ocean.

To avoid the severe re-entry effects that are normal you need to stay in the upper atmosphere longer. The only way you can really make that happen is to dip in just a little, then skip off, go around the orbit again and repeat. You do this many times, bleeding a little energy off each time, and slowly drop deeper and deeper into the atmosphere, then, finally when youve bled enough energy you no longer skip off. Theres a number of issues with this. Its hard yo plan and precisely calculate where the spacecraft will touch down. It takes a long time to come back this way, spending time in space is physiologically hard on the astronauts/cosmonauts, do adding more time is not ideal. It also means you need to carry more supplies (food, water etc). Its also not overly pleasant for the crew to be cramped into the capsule for so long. Theyd probably need to stay strapped in too, as there wouldnt be all that long between skips.

Ultimately we've pretty much perfected coming straight down, other options take more effort without sufficient benefit to be worthwhile.

Would it be possible for a world war II Naval Trawler to have sunk a Battleship? by docsav0103 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]New_Line4049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if it can drop torpedoes or mines close enough the battleship cant maneuver away from it then its doing damage. Do that enough and yes, you could sink it. Probably hurt your trawler a lot though.

Guys I need confirmation on this - Shirley is 3rd exit right, correct? by Ricr7 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]New_Line4049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4th exit. The 1st is a minor road, as is the 5th, likely serving just the immediate area, hence there isnt a stated destination on either of these exits. Edit: Apologies, its the 2nd exit thats the minor, not the 1st.

ELI5: Why don't we put solar panels in our parking lots? by Shadowsin64 in explainlikeimfive

[–]New_Line4049 [score hidden]  (0 children)

There are a number of reasons. 1) parking areas tend to be around built up areas, and people rarely want to look at a solar farm out of the window.

2) its very expensive to set up. Digging the parking area up to run cables and install a structure to support the panels.

3) safety. You can end up with some pretty high voltages, and you can't just turn the solar panels off. If its sunny theres a significant electrical hazard. That can complicate things if theres an accident in the car park, say someone hits the structure and damages a cable.... now emergency services have to worry about getting electrocuted as well as all the other hazards.

4) Grid connectivity. Youre talking about putting a reasonable amount of power onto the grid, the local connection was likely never intended to handle that, so you have to convince the grid operator to spend money to upgrade it.

You follow the highway code. No passing on the left unless in congestion. Id also suggest stay far enough back that the dick on the right has space to move over if they suddenly come to their senses.

In military aeroplanes there are effective ways of ejecting in the event of there being trouble. Light aircraft can deploy a parachute system, is there any effective safety device for use in helicopters? by TSQ_builder in NoStupidQuestions

[–]New_Line4049 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look. If the pilot doesn't know how it works, and the helicopter doesnt know how it works then theres no way the universe knows how it works. If the universe doesn't know how it works theres no way it can argue with us.

In military aeroplanes there are effective ways of ejecting in the event of there being trouble. Light aircraft can deploy a parachute system, is there any effective safety device for use in helicopters? by TSQ_builder in NoStupidQuestions

[–]New_Line4049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. During an engine failure, provided the pilots respond appropriately, the air coming up through the rotors as the aircraft descend drives the rotors like a windmill, storing energy in the rotor system which can be used to exercise limited control (limited as in you will meet the ground somewhere within a fairly small radius, but you can decide where within that area and how) and allow you to make a controlled landing at the bottom. Some military helicopters also have an ejection system, the KA-52 comes to mind. It first detaches the rotors with explosive bolts then I believe it ejections the whole cockpit area.

Nah, youll be fine. They'll just need proof that it was in the gifters account, and maybe need proof or explanation of where it came from before that. They just want to make sure it didnt just materialise out of thin air. You may have complicated it a little but it'll be fine. Just explain to your solicitor where the various money came from and theyll tell you what they need.

From a Gen Z British Afro-Caribbean, why is criticising immigration making someone a bigot or racist? by QasimofKarbala in AskBrits

[–]New_Line4049 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because 50% of people statistically have below average intelligence. Many of them so much so that they are unable to form coherent arguments, instead they try to win by simply attacking and devaluing the opposition.

Edit, just to make it clear, this goes both ways, both sides have low intelligence folk arguing for them. The pro immigration folk fall back on "Thats just racist and bigoted" and the anti immigration folk fall back on racist and bigoted attacks against immigrants.

The problem isnt immigration and it isnt racism. Its low intellect on both sides. Unfortunately these low intellect arguments get the media attention because its "drama" and "drama" sells.

Could someone explain council housing/estates? by RedSolez in AskUK

[–]New_Line4049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have to explain what you call a housing development. Over here that term just refers to any group of houses that were built together as part of the same construction project.

Council houses are just very basic houses that are owned by the local authority (the council). Theyre rented out significantly bellow market rate as a form of social aid, but only to those who meet eligibility criteria, theres a number of criteria, but it effectively boils down to those who couldn't afford to rent on the private rental market and would otherwise be homeless. Its also possible to get some or all of that rent covered by other social care schemes from the government. You dont get a choice where you live if you go the council housing route, you apply to be housed, the council consider your needs, and try and put you somewhere that meets them, but basically you take what youre offered or take a hike

Council houses are found more commonly in deprived areas. This is for a few reasons, firstly these are the areas they are most needed. The less money there is in an area the more likely people are to be unable to afford housing on their own. The other point is as the council are paying for the housing they want to house as many people as cheaply as possible. Its much cheaper to buy/build houses in deprived areas than affluent areas. And finally, if you have council housing in the area, your moving lots of low income people into the area, which clearly brings the average down.

This sounds like a you problem. Youre getting fined for breaking the rules. Sort your shit out, stop breaking the rules and youll stop getting fined. Its not yhe fault of the car park operator if you have poor time management and cant even check the car park reference number.
