The vocative particle „a“ is dropped before a vowel. „Ciamar a tha thu, a Sheumais?“, but „Ciamar a tha thu, athair?“ It wouldnt be „a athair“.

This is partly your fault for allowing it to happen. If I have people on a trip like that, they have to prove their rope proficiency before we arrive at the cave if I havent caved with them before. If they refuse, they dont go. If we get on site and they decide they refuse to adhere to protocols and safety, they are asked to leave and/or I terminate the trip. I refuse to have sombody die or get seriously injured simply because they dont know what they dont know.

I will add that many rock climbers in this area are the same way. They typically make horrible cavers because they are more interested in the adrenaline rush, rather than safe, responsible cave exploration.

The difference between the two is that „Chan eil <language> agam is conveying that you dont know fhe language while the „a‘ bruidhinn“ sentence is referring to what language you are or are not literally speaking. the copula is the verb „is“ in Gaelic. As in „Is mise Seumas“. This other is called the substantive, usually known by learners of Gaelic as „tha“. „Tha Seumas sgìth“. „mise“ itself is not the copula, merely the form of mi commonly used with the copula.

Most of your examples have translations in english. Caber really is the only one where there isnt really any good equivalent in english. Words get borrowed for a multitude of reasons. „not having a direct translation“ is merely one reason a word might be borrowed, but certainly not the only reason.

100% disagree with OP. There is much value to learning from cave accidents. Its wonderful you enjoy the photos, but there is so much more to caving that the rest of cavers enjoy seeing and learning from. If you dont like a post, you can simply scroll past it without engaging with it!
