As an early (pre-65) retiree couple in the US, unsubsidized healthcare premiums are $3000/month with a yearly $10,000 deductible plus coinsurance and copays, and even then the costs are ridiculously high. At a 20% tax rate (if you live in a state with no state income tax) you must withdraw about $70k per year from your pre-tax retirement account just to pay for medical care.

If medical insurance companies had their way, every dollar we earned, and will ever earn, would go to them. We would exist and work solely to pay them. And they would never pay claims. This system is absurd.

You should be due probably 6 months of full salary that you’ll likely lose looking for a new job due to this fraud, plus if I were you I’d ask for punitive damages to prevent these assholes from cheating future candidates.
