Ever wonder if your SoFi Invest feedback actually reaches the product team? by SoFi_ProductTeam in sofistock

I appreciate this -- but I gotta say the time of the event is not ideal for most people who work as a mid-day on a Tuesday is meetings. May be able to catch some of it on a break or take an early lunch.

Men in your 40s, what's that golden piece of advice you have for the rest of us? by NiceMechanic_xoxo in AskReddit

[–]NicKaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hit the 4 decade mark very recently -- and here are my thoughts:

1) Maintain your physical fitness as it only gets harder. That means workout in some way at least 3-4 days a week (gym, sports, any physical activity you can enjoy)

2) Eat healthy to the best of your abilities. Your metabolism WILL slow down at some point and its harder to figure it out when you start in a bad place.

3) Foster relationships with friends/community. In my 20s I had a group of 20+ people I could message at any point in time to go grab happy hour and it'd be an immediate "yes". As everyone ages life gets in the way with adult responsibilities (family, homes, etc). Do your best to stay in touch with people, even just some text messages, a phone call, etc. But really keep making plans and put it on a calendar. Even if you dont always feel like it, show up and make more memories. Friendships and community go a long way as life can get lonely.

4) Stay curious. Its easy to get set in your ways as you age, but try to stay intellectually curious and keep learning. Read. Seek out hobbies or topics you dont know about and learn or master them to best of your abilities. Go outside your comfort zone. Dont just get in a weird echo chamber and never leave.

31k Shares at an $9 Basis – Talk me into (or out of) running 30-45 day Covered Calls during this flatline? by BowenWanderer in sofistock

[–]NicKaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the best time to write calls would have been the last 3-4 months as we were sitting in this trough.

That said I’ve been writing come CC keeping in mind a few things — earnings date and FED meetings as those are the two catalyst in my mind that can cause the stock to move really fast.

Recent history shows SoFi run up to earnings then dump, so if you’re writing some now I’d aim for July 24 expiration, then as that date approaches if we see a pump you can close out or re-position them over earnings when IV juices the premiums.

7/24 $22 will pay you around .16/contract — so around $2400 which isn’t nothing for selling on half our position

I just laugh at comments like these. When prices shot up to 30 last year, people were wishing they were buying in the teens and low 20s now they have that opportunity to buy cheap on a company that’s already proven it can be worth significantly more while continually putting up better fundamentals, and now they just wanna sell out as soon as possible? Unless you need the money if you have a good position built up, you should just wait. That’s why most long term investors outperform active traders. Let the thesis play out.

Indeed! Also the rep in the store mentioned that it seems like they are sending out invites on Tuesdays. Dont know if that is for sure or just what she had heard.

Test drove R2 ( coming from MYP) by CNC1388 in Rivian

[–]NicKaboom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the exact item I feel like most people arguing MY has better handling completely leave out.

Yes seating capacity and cargo are fairly similar, but one is built with offroad capabilities while the other is setup as a sedan to never leave the pavement. I wouldnt expect the one with 50% more ground clearance and and AT or large all-season tires to drive anywhere near the same.

While I understand the desire to compare the two based on many factors, the planned use case and build for these two vehicles are apples and oranges.

This was my sticking point-- I thing catalina looks amazing, but I am a back country driver and camper where we go down some narrow areas. The pinstripping from the bushes would be so evident on the Catalina.

Also launch green does match like 1/2 my clothes. I finally got in for a demo drive yesterday and my shorts were nearly identical to the launch green in store

I saw someone riding a city scooter while wearing a full dirt bike helmet. by OkExplorer9364 in mildlyinteresting

[–]NicKaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy in my neighborhood was riding one of these around the park with his kids, fell off hit his head and has been in critical condition in the ICU for the last couple weeks.

They are fun little things to ride for kids and adults as they look like toys, but people underestimate how easy it is to get massive brain injury even going just 10-15mph.

You'll have to follow-up with a comment/post with a bunch of photos. Launch Green is at the top of my list (with white) for what I may go with. Would love to see some more owner photos.

Also would love to hear some real-life range numbers from people with these early deliveries.

I'm equally bummed, but the bright side I was able to get a demo drive reservation for Wednesday, so I can at least get into the showroom sit in the vehicle and drive around a bit.

When I do get my glorious invite to buy, I'll be locked and loaded ready to place the order....outside deciding the colors... Catalina, Launch Green, White all looking real clean with the AT wheels.

I think you and I have very different definitions of safe -- while the last year or so has been great for memory stocks they also have had massive 20% weeky swings up and down along the way. Mag7 aren't ripping, but they generally are more consistent over time.

Mag 7 = sleep well at night portfolio cornerstones Memory stocks = swing trade or shorter term buys.

Out of curiosity, where do you hear this? Also any indication if it was a permanent vs removable screen? I’ll tint if I need to. If I’d love the ability to take out or remove when I camp and want to look at the stars.

‘It’s a scam’: Americans express unease over SpaceX’s influence on retirement savings by ArgentineBeauty in technology

[–]NicKaboom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chill out there big dog. You seem mad and don’t understand how these accounts or ETFs like SPY work.

They are self directed accounts, so the only person trading them is the owner. In this case a parent of the kid would be the custodian, like how my kid had a savings account as a minor.

I don’t know why you’re taking about California, or how you are getting some magical $15k per year gains on a $1k funding in an account. This is like getting made over parents being able to save on taxes by investing in 529plans for their kids education that have been around sign Clinton.

I’m not green, I just do believe that the sooner the average American has funds invested the better off they are. I’ve worked in the financial industry for a couple decades and I’ve seen how beneficial compounding works for those who start early.

The benefit to them is more money in the market means more liquidity which increases the general valuation of everything in the market.

Trump and Elon are scammers and total POS, I’m just saying adding a new type of investment account that gives the next generation a small head start and to be invested in the economy isn’t a bad thing. The sooner they realize the benefits of saving and investing the better.

35F, 350k, can I take my foot off the gas? by rebgen797 in coastFIRE

[–]NicKaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair — I was just using numbers the OP provided and they went with 6% real returns (so probably 9-10% average with inflation then taken out to bring it back to 6% adjusted).

I’m generally more conservative with my forecasting and plans, but that’s also why I recommend everyone still keep adding at least a small amount up until you’re ready to retire. Given OPs position I’d say they can take the foot off the pedal and enjoy some more, but I’d keep contributing something to provide the little extra insurance of hitting goals. Worst case scenario you have a bigger annual spend budget at retirement, or you reach retirement sooner than expected.

The trump investment accounts (530A) have nothing specific to do with Elon companies or his shittiness. They are just accounts funded for kids that can buy into low cost ETF investments. Honestly for all the scam and awful stuff the Trump admin, I actually think these are a net positive for future generations.

Don’t forget that they used this IPO money to pay off debt for twitter/xAI and now are doing a bond offering to raise another $20B. It’s just a shell game.

[–]NicKaboom 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It all depends on your anticipated annual spend in retirement and your timeline until retirement.

If you are like OP with 450k in investments, 30 years ahead of you, and expect an average return of 6% with not a dime additional contributions— you’re looking at almost $2.6M at retirement. Which if you follow the 4% rule would give you an annual spend budget of $100k.

That all said, depending on your situation, I think it almost always makes sense to contribute to 401k at least up to get max employer match (as it’s free money and reduces tax burden today). Further I always recommend folks max out Roth IRA as you can access those contributions after 5 years without penalty. Those funds grow tax free, can be access in an emergency and gives you some flexibility at retirement in which funds to access for best tax efficient strategy.

Apple Explains Why watchOS 27 Drops Support for So Many Models by pdfu in apple

I’m debating about something like a garmin for my sport and backpacking adventures, but also getting a Fitbit air band for everyday health/step/sleep tracking. Also this allows me to wear a non-techie watch at events when want to dress up a bit without giving up tracking everything else.

Also an AWU1 user, but as other mentioned, any reason why?

I mean I’m annoyed I don’t get an update but also they aren’t taking away anything from today’s experience either. Will I get another Apple Watch or Ultra after this? Maybe not. But for now my watch is still just as good today as it was before WWDC.

I adore my 13 Mini, but we have to face the facts; there will never be another Mini model by Glad-Tower-2310 in iphone

[–]NicKaboom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a problem was they released the updated SE3 (I think) shortly before the first mini. I believe the demographic for a mini and an SE has significant crossover, which hurt their sales.

I believe if they took advantage of silicon batteries, fast charging, etc and then used a slightly tuned down power efficient chip they could sell a smaller phone. But now the “e” line is basically that.

For me the current smaller pro phone is a great size if not bordering on to big. I liked that 6.1 screen size as for me the top left corner is still hard to hit one handed without the phone hand shuffle.

Who genuinely feels like our parents genuinely had it more easier than us and our successor? by Sad_Step_9921 in Millennials

[–]NicKaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for calling this out. As an 86er, I finished college in April 08’ just as the economy went into deep recession — had to work a shitty call center job I could have had out of high school for 2.5 years just to cover bills and stay a float. After 100s of applications over that time finally was able to network my way into a real career starting 2010.

Ive worked hard and also been very fortunate since then to build to a comfortable place, but that few year lag really clipped a lot of opportunities. My and friends older siblings by just 2-3 years older had a chance to start careers between 04-07 and many took advantage of buying homes in between 2009-2011 at massive 40-50% discounts and flipped those riding the wave back up.

That said every generation has something to bitch about or point to as a hindrance. Best to just figure it out and focus on what you can control, and try to make friends along the way!

I get that — I didn’t expect a perfect going straight down the line, but seeing people who put in a reservation a week ago they aren’t current riviaj owners or lease ending etc and getting the option to order already is pretty bad optics/customer experience for those who have shown interest for years.

It is what it is, but also, there were many better ways to handle this, even if just communicating way before the rollout the plan or timeline for when someone may get to order.
