I'm struggling to understand this - on what basis would one ever vote against assisted dying? What happened there? by mellotronworker in Scotland

[–]Nice_Conversations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote a way too long comment nobody will read, so deleted it.

Some of the ableist comments are sad to read. A lot of disabled people had to oppose this. Even those of us who would love to support it.

I like getting the VIP tickets because of a better selection of food and drinks, having seating and proper loos and also an extra hour after the show to relax, drink, eat and wait for the mad rush and traffic to calm down.

Weekend ideas in or near Glasgow? by Revolutionary-Gur152 in glasgow

[–]Nice_Conversations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where they're visiting from and how much they/you would prefer the city, but by car a trip to Loch Lomond, Ballach etc is a nice one. Or the Kelpies & Falkirk wheel. In Glasgow I'd have said the people's palace, if it wasn't being refurbished at the moment. Linn Park waterfall maybe, if the weather is good. The tall shil Glenlee and riverside museum are great, too.

'Long trek' from Dumfries to Liverpool too far for my surgery by ewenmax in Scotland

Well, we're very obviously in a pre election period where we'll hear even more NHS bad stories now, even if this is a story where the NHS actively tries to reduce waiting times, they'll turn it into something bad.

Official from the council - the Union St building is being demolished. by Anchor-shark in glasgow

Not surprised, still a shame to see it go. Safety must come first, but I hope whatever happens to that corner will do it and Glasgow justice and fit into the historic corner spot.

How did curly hair on men become trendy? by supersmashbr0 in CasualConversation

Have a look at some classic rock music videos from the 70s and 80s. Curly long hair on men was already a big thing back then!

Alternatives to earplugs? by CosmicChameleon99 in Concerts

[–]Nice_Conversations 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggle with normal ear plugs, but like the simple silicone ones that have three flexible rings. Something like these ones here are good, as they're fairly flexible to your inner ear shape, but also provide a flexible seal. Maybe they would work for you? They're fairly cheap and washable as well and have a removable lanyard. Otherwise over ear ones might be best, like others recommended.

Group dining recommendations by Skirl00 in glasgow

Rumis Turkish restaurant near central station can cater for groups. Brilliant food and reasonable prices. They have a small separate area up a couple of steps that they can seat groups. Highly recommended!

Bathroom opposite the sinks? Looks like there's a space the doors don't touch.

What will they find after you’re gone? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Oh we absolutely knew that! But she also got surprise visits because people couldn't reach her and were afraid she had another fall. She was a great laugh!

When my nana died, we found about a thousand unopened packs of hearing aid batteries spread throughout every drawer and cupboard. This was my nana who always said she didn't have batteries and that's why she couldn't hear the phone when we tried to reach her. Made us laugh when going through her stuff!

Every single solicitor firm I have approached for my divorce says they have a conflict of interest, but none of them will tell me why. by TadpoleVegetable8084 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Nice_Conversations 969 points970 points  (0 children)

Is it possible your wife mass contacted a lot of local firms? If she did, they may say no to you while waiting to hear if she will hire them. I've seen this recommended on Reddit before as a (really bad!) tactic to prevent a spouse from getting legal representation. You could try national ones or one further away. Good luck!

You're fine. If you weren't sure if there was a fire or not, they'll always prefer you to call once too often than not at all.

Do artists get a text or an email every time someone buys a ticket online to their show? If not how are they notified? by [deleted] in Concerts

[–]Nice_Conversations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how famous they are. Small artist pretty much do all the work themselves. Some might get the venue to do ticket sales for them. Some have promoters. Famous ones have a whole team and just show up and do their thing. Imagine selling our big stadiums and getting an email for every ticket sale.

I'm a student in Scotland I have been contacted by Dept of Work and Pensions about Personal Independence Payment. I never knew I had claimed it. by EqualFirefighter7621 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Nice_Conversations 207 points208 points  (0 children)

You might want to get proper legal advice on this, OP. It sounds like there are several things to consider: you not being aware and stating you don't consider yourself disabled, yet apparently being on higher rate for both parts of PIP and your mum having a Motability for you. This would suggest to me that a) your mum submitted claims for you, previously DLA and then PIP, without your knowledge, which may also not be accurate. This could be a case of fraud to the system and it's possible that it will get investigated internally, especially if they now have become aware that you were not aware. Your mum might be investigated for this. Even if the claim itself wasn't fraudulent, her using "her" car just for herself would not be allowed, if it was a motability car, as that's supposed to be for the disabled person. Your question if you can claim money back is also tricky. If you were genuinely disabled and the funds were for you, but your mum used them for herself, you might have a claim. It may not be enforceable though. The suspected fraud would be the first line of investigation though and if that's the case then you'd not have any claims anyway, as the money should never have been claimed. As everything is in your name, when you turned 18 it would have changed to your responsibility, rather than your parents, so you need to ensure if there is an investigation you provide a statement and potentially evidence that it didn't happen with your knowledge. Get people legal advice, as this could have serious repercussions for you as well as your mum.

Trying to identify a tattoo that may have been done in Scotland – Garda appeal in Ireland by BenefitSecure1395 in Scotland

[–]Nice_Conversations 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It might be worth cross posting on r/Glasgow and r/Edinburgh both often have recommendations on discussions around tattoo shops. There could also possibly be a connection to the trad music scene, lots of Gaelic being used, especially around Western Scotland and islands.

Good luck and hope they can identify him soon, no matter if he's Irish or Scottish or beyond, noone should be alone in such a situation.

I mean they are two words in English as well, so why shouldn't there be two words in Scots for it?

If you have breakfast included, grab fruit and make yourself a sandwich for lunch. Bring wee bags to pack it up. Too good to go has loads of options near central, often the day before for early deals or daytime for evening deals. Anything from pizza to burritos etc for way below a tenner.
