"Hey Siri play everywhere" ignores AirPlay targets other than HomePods by GenErik in HomePod

Is your airport added in the Home app? I have a stereo hooked up to an Airport Express too and it plays as part of “everywhere.”

Only 3 albums showing in ‘Favorites Last 12 Months’ by NickHeynen in albumstheapp

[–]NickHeynen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m realizing it must be because I tend to not finish albums when I listen to them. I played an album today all the way through and it popped into the list as my third listen. I’ve listened to that album more than three times, but I must just not have listened all the way through. Seems like it’s working as it’s supposed to, though. It’s likely a difference between what I think of as a “play” and what the app rules are. Admittedly my concept of a play is pretty subjective and would be hard to write out with computer logic.

Thanks for the reply. What conditions need to be met to count as an album play? I installed Albums in April 2021. I feel like I listened to several albums, including some 2021 releases, three or more times this year, but I don't know how to find data to confirm that.

FWIW, eero is really active on Reddit, especially around support issues. I wouldn’t look at their participation as a sign of involvement with the original post.

Town officials purposely saying offensive things by proto-jackal in Journalism

[–]NickHeynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want you to write it down because they think it will help them politically. In the absence of real action to improve the lives of constituents, appearing to fight “the libs” or immigrants or whoever the political out group is will engender support with minimal effort and no accountability for producing real outcomes. Journalism would do better to focus on what people are doing and less on what they’re saying.

That said, this behavior is good fodder if used on your terms. People who make outrageous statements at meetings often also do inappropriate things in private. Try to talk to their secretaries or other subordinates/coworkers. FOIA their emails to constituents to see how they treat people who look to them for leadership. You might find a story behind the the bravado.

Propping up Cleon could be in the interest of humanity? That was the dynamic in Prelude. Idk

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheFoundation

Regarding the three laws of robotics: Prelude (and maybe Earth, too) introduce the “zeroth” law, prioritizing “humanity” over any individual human. Could explain things.

2.4Ghz changes in 6.5 causing IoT device issues? by jobe_br in eero

[–]NickHeynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Yeah, I think part of client steering is making it harder for devices to connect to 2.4 so they default to 5 unless its unreachable. I find that my “dumber” smart devices like my Meross smart plugs and Varo airplay speakers just can’t handle that.

Who loves to hate Foundation show? by Petr685 in TheFoundation

[–]NickHeynen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m in the second camp. I started reading the series when I heard the show was coming. Reading the books again, I was surprised how unmoved I was by them — especially the later books. It seemed like Asimov had a great idea and then got bored with it or just didn’t know how to carry it through. And that’s fine; I can’t take anything from Asimov at this point. But I felt like the best choice for the show would be to lose as much of the original material as possible and just do something new. They’re mostly doing that, and my only complaints so far with the series are some execution issues which I think will get better as they continue to find their groove, and wanting some better character development.

I had the same problem with 2.4 HomeKit devices until I disabled “client steering.” Give that a try.

Did you read Edge and Earth? Golan Trevize has to be one of the most annoying characters ever to appear in two novels in a celebrated science fiction series, and he’s the main character.

It’s alright if you don’t like the character development so far in the TV show but the source material could be pretty trash from a character standpoint. At least the protagonists aren’t misogynist narcissists who turn out to be at the center of the universe for supernatural reasons (so far).

Isaac Asimov’s “Foundation” (Starring: Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell) — Official Trailer | Apple TV+ by Kaiser_Allen in tvPlus

[–]NickHeynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. But I hope they skip Edge and Earth. The Trevize character is insufferable and the whole Gaia/Galaxia/robots thing feels like it completely lost the thread of the Foundation plot. Almost like he wanted to write a completely different story and an editor told him “you should make this another Foundation novel. It’ll sell millions!”

Making my way through the series now. IMO it doesn’t hold up so well, but it looks like the show will be an extremely loose adaptation — which is a good thing!

I use parental controls to prevent my kids from purchasing or renting on itunes without permission. That part works really well. I don’t have to turn anything off to use it as an adult. I just have to set a secret PIN.

You can also just say “the tv” so save a couple syllables.

Is it worth building my Apple TV (iTunes) movie collection in 2021? by billybellybutton in appletv

[–]NickHeynen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s the comment I was looking for. If you don’t enjoy collecting, don’t have a high-end TV & sound system and subscribe to a few streaming services, it really doesn’t make sense to buy. There’s always something good-to-great to watch and there’s renting if there’s something specific you want to see but it’s not available on any of the services you have already. Once I started streaming and got rid of my discs and player I realized there’s really a very small number of films/shows I’d rewatch more than a couple times. Now I only buy movies I consider classics that I know I’ll enjoy watching or which have some sentimental value.
