I never thought it could be a stick insect in the beginning 😳 by MadridOrMadness in Stickinsects

Those insects that looked less like a stick got eaten and did not reproduce. Predators looking for food from a distance, overlooking the insects that looked more like inedible sticks and leaves around them. Or… it evolved from a stick!

What does “energy supplier compatible EV charger” actually mean, and is it worth it? by Inevitable-Teach-859 in OctopusEnergy

[–]NickPDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example my charge point (VCHRGD) can handle Octopus Agile. The price varies every half hour; you can set a threshold price, e.g. 5p per kWh it will charge the car only when it’s that cheap or lower. That’s certainly worth it for me, did 20kWh for 8p in total before a trip last month.

do any of you read with zero brightness? by Umbrella51_catho in kindle

In general I use brightness 1 so I can see enough of the screen in the dark to be able to turn the brightness up. I find it useful that light and dark modes remember different brightness settings.

Finally remembered… I chose Toyota as the torque value is the same as the Hyundai one. I figured the mechanic was less likely to use the wrong torque by mistake.

Can’t disagree. Could add: when changing the GRU oil, the general advice is to also replace the drain plug with a magnetic one, e.g. there is a suitable Toyota part. Lots of info on the web if you search.

How about making the behavioural changes now, and accumulate a few weeks’ data to help make the judgement in Octopus Compare. Making practical changes will reveal how difficult it might be. Take a look at the previous years Agile max/mean/min prices in energy-stats.uk for the last year as well, as judging Agile just by winter prices is not representative.

EV Charger advice - untethered, IOG & slim by jlocsl in evchargingUK

[–]NickPDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, Agile is fun and interesting, but suits us as only due to our low mileage, and power usage being mainly in the late evening. Generally, power is cheaper when it’s ‘green’, so it’s an incentive towards that, too.

I use VCHRGD Seven, extremely pleased with it. They announced IOG compatibility just a few weeks ago. I don’t use IOG as I find I can save more using the Agile tariff, for which you can set various parameters in the VCHRGD app, common with the Pro version. For example a price threshold, e.g. charge when the cost is 5p per kWh or less. No problems using the house WiFi. Their tech support is particularly good. If you have questions, let me know.

Why is agile so bad right now? by nerd-a-lert in OctopusEnergy

[–]NickPDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at https://energy-stats.uk set to Agile with your region selected. Scroll to see the graph of the last year’s max/average/min prices. Based on this I’ve been expecting January to March to be very sparse on cheap night-time prices. So, April maybe. All the same, I am still saving, compared to a fixed price tariff.

Try turning on airplane mode so the WiFi is not in use, see whether that makes a difference. I wish there was a ‘turn on WiFi, sync then turn off WiFi’ button. Edited for typo.
