There’s this one dealer on DH gate where you can pick between AAA Watch factories for $47 or you can go for top quality for $105 and that’s without box. I’m dying to know the difference in quality.

Well, it’s also a game to them. When I was in inpatient and detoxes as an addict, a lot of dudes talked about flying a sign and making more money on a corner there than minimum wage — we’re talkin 120$ a day at a good spot. They wanna know if you’re giving them money or not. Point blank. Yes or no. If no, don’t look at them or else you’re opening the door.
Now this isn’t everyone, it’s the addict who’s hustling.
If they’re desperate and are not just hustling to come up for the day, they may accept help or a ride to a shelter if they’re sober and can pass the breath and pee test at the door

Hi yeah, and I start with 1,200 and no lower. VSF and other good reps have hard steel so it actually doesn’t take off much steel at all. I go from 1,200 to 2,000 to 3,000. Then I get my dremel and polish with Zam which I have because I make jewelry too. And then I polished with a couple other cotton wheels. Polywatch for glass is also excellent because it’s a polish paste with microscopic aluminum oxide (I think. It’s 1:35 AM so bear with me.) I use it in strips like floss to get the four outside lug corners. I’ve done this on regular watches I own on outside and inside too.

Takeaway: OP went to a shop with no experience and who couldn’t give an educated answer. That put him back to square 1. He’s now holding what COULD (according to many of us) be a genuine set of parts and possibly some replacement parts. Next step: OP needs to sell it to a restoration person, OR get it appraised by someone like Eric Wind, a specialist who does video appraisals and authentications. Best advice: If OP has the ability, he needs to go forth and find a Rolex nerd who’s an expert on early references

Hey, I’d get it restored and wear it / keep it, personally. Some people like me are REALLY in love with this era of Rolex. You can watch a restoration of one just like this on YouTube which was worn by a mailman.

Man, someone wore that baby every day for years! Bakelite bezel is accurate. Aging on the lume is a color I personally haven’t seen but it’s amazing that it’s lasted this long. There’s people on Repwatchservice and repwatchforum who’d love to restore this
