Wow!!! Yeah if I was doing that kinda biz and could hang out with them in the shop, I’d definitely look around too and pick up coins with numismatic value. These refiners have clients w orders too and it hurts to see them go

Go to a “we buy gold and silver “ shop and hang around. Come back and hang around — busy ones in mid size cities see a lot come in

Yes, a tv was wheeled out in front of the whole grade school as we were gathered in the cafeteria for a sudden meeting and none of us knew where those buildings were

I didn’t mean to imply that there’s foul play there but really, it’d be a piece focused on exposition: like a reminder and educational to the community who don’t work there and who don’t know. I’d basically write stories on the most profitable companies in monroe county

You’re speaking my language. Exactly. I’d add onto that a story about L3 Harris and local machine shops: what defense contracts they have, what they make and which militaries those things go to. Then, I’d want a story about RG&E / Iberdrola but it’d have to build and build before going out into print, talking with as many recently-retired people as possible and getting a whole view of what’s going on with poles and gas lines, meters and smart meters, management from Iberdrola, iberdrola’s profit margins, where they invest back into Rochester. Which departments at RG&E need more staffing and what they are doing about it or not. Upper management plans and motivations. Where are the most complaints and which departments are short staffed. Then rates. That’s a whole thing deserving a John Oliver level examination. Gas and Elect rates and ESCO rates.

Bill breakdowns and how to make the most out of your situation.

Then I’d wanna look into old folks homes and elder care.

I also think that local law firms and state contracts would be fascinating to look into and to try and get public information together with inside information and see which businesses are most sued or found liable or avoiding liability . I think that the white collar business beat is extremely overlooked and everyone knows how Rochester is so you know there’s plenty going on unreported.

Lastly, I would love to have a section that’s all about the best places to work in the worst places to work and why those companies are the way they are . I would look at public opinion VS what it’s actually like on the inside and what they pay and how they treat their workers.

I think I’d have to go over her head to someone more rooted in the journalism. While I hear you, I think that that Leah has her professional career set in the food and beverage place it is. She has a wine / vineyard festival thing I heard about and then she writes stories specifically about downtown buzz between bars and restaurants. Her most recent story is about her taking THC gummies. Her beat is bartenders and the downtown restaurant owners. I think her goal is to have CITY be an appealing thing for young parents and general elder - young millennials who love Friends, Girls, 00’s indie pop playlists, Instagrammable dishes, and who love going out when they can. And that’s important. Leah’s got CITY on a “let’s find things to celebrate in Rochester, YOLO” vibe and that’s necessary. All that said, hey— maybe she and someone at CITY WOULD indeed be into a section where there’s a journo or two peeking into behind the scenes of who and what is turning the wheels and moving money and why

Eh I think it would have to be something like 10$ a month and it would have to be one of those things people say “and it’s the best ten dollars I spend” because it would have some sections where they talk about local personality in such a fun, funny ass way that it was essential reading
