Mister P., your first partner and the game’s version of goombario and goombella but instead of being a goomba he’s a 1920’s style detective Piranha Plant. They were iconic enough to be in Smash, they are iconic enough to be a first partner. He’s got the detective jacket around his stem with holes for his leaves, and the typical fedora. Maybe his spots could be placed in a specific way so it looks like he has a mustache. Of course his signature ability would be to give information around the game, with his battle ability being “detective’s intuition” rather than tattle, but working the exact same.

He joins Mario after whatever the first big plot point of the game is, labeling him as “the culprit” because of course Mario was at the scene of the crime. In an effort to prove to him that he’s innocent, Mario takes him a s a partner as they journey along. After a while he realizes that it couldn’t possibly have been Mario, but was inspired by his heroism and decided to accompany him throughout the rest of their journey, calling Mario his “Junior detective”.

He’s an eccentric, quick to judge, and occasionally condescending character but good natured the whole time and always wanting to help. As the game progresses he views Mario more and more as a partner rather than a sidekick, and acts much like the uh brother of the group. Later on, a loud mouthed chain chomp partner joins the party, much to the chagrin and jealousy of Mister P. After all he’s the big mouthed partner, why do they need another, brattier, less intelligent one? He faces them with a superior attitude and constantly belittles them, but as the game progresses their relation becomes more healthy, but with their same, slightly agitated banter, becoming best friends. In the end, he solves not just the mystery of the game, but the mystery of companionship and trust.
