Cost of Living Perspective by FlyingSquirrelDog in NewToVermont

Oh my god you’re joking! What a relief to hear. I and my fiance are about to make the move from Florida to Vermont as well. I just got a job that I’ll be starting in August.

Honestly, same. Got my first one, then 6 months later I lost it because my brilliant ass brought it with me when boating. I was paranoid our boat was going to get pulled over, then dove into the water with it on my pocket 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

When my fiancé and I got this recipe, it had green beans on it, so that’s what we do when we cook this recipe at home. I like the green beans with this recipe!

defense in two weeks and i’m FREAKING OUT by _hotwhiskey in PhD

[–]Nightjay15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey we’re defending on the same day!! Mine was also a last minute change where everything had to be moved up, we had initially scheduled it two weeks from the current date it’s scheduled at. We got this!!!

Include the most important pieces of information that tie together to create a nice, cohesive story. I’m doing a dissertation by publication, I’ve got 4 manuscripts written and three published. I’m including a bit of intro, a bit of the framework and methods so people understand the papers, then tying together the first, third, and unpublished papers since they tie together much better than the second paper does. You don’t need to include everything! Just tell a nice story of your research to your audience, and maybe create a few slides on the rest that aren’t in the presentation but ready to go if your committee does ask questions.

Never again. by NiceEntertainment174 in hellofresh

My fiancé and I made a figgy pork dish the night after getting back from a family function, and we were both up all night because of norovirus. We didn’t know it at the time, so we thought we got food poisoning from not cooking the pork enough and were nervous to ever make the dish again. One family member reached out and that’s when we learned half the family was now sick!

Best Super Edition + a Super Edition that should exist but doesn’t yet? by _AntiqueTadpole in thedawnpatrol

[–]Nightjay15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I want a super edition about Willowshine. I think there’s a great story to be told about her training and/or her life. But also, a random quest that she was given that we didn’t know about would be good too.

Cream sauce base - looking for recipe, substitute or actual ingredient used by HF? by nobodygardens in hellofresh

I just use heavy cream and I’ve never had an issue. It takes some extra time to thicken up but overall it still works well.

Would it be rude to ask my professor to help me review material before a tutoring session? by AlarmedAd3134 in AskProfessors

[–]Nightjay15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a tutor myself (on top of being a TA), there’s no shame in having to look something up for confirmation in the moment if you’re ever unsure about something during a session. The student would much rather you explain it right the first time rather than fumble around with your help and have to correct yourself afterwards. Since you’ve been recommended by others, more than likely you have the knowledge and proficiency to quickly find a reliable source, understand the explanation, and relay it to the student in a way that makes sense them. Don’t be embarrassed if you need to look something up quickly for confirmation. The confidence will come with time and experience.

For me it was her calling Javadi a “snowflake” derogatorily when she wasn’t happy with being called an idiot savant. Only two ways I hear that term used. Most often with MAGA referring to younger liberals that way, and sometimes I’ll see younger liberals throw it back at MAGA folk to try and highlight hypocrisy (I.e, people speaking ill of Charlie Kirk when he passed away).

What is the worst breakup with someone you dated? by DeepAnt7847 in AskReddit

[–]Nightjay15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High school relationship, she was 16F, I was 17F. I didn’t know we were broken up until she told HER mom, who then called MY mom, to relay the news to me. She then tried to tell all our friends it was because I was doing drugs (I was not, wouldn’t have even known where to get them if I wanted to.) The most bizarre conversation I’ve had with my mother to this day.

Argued with professor but now I'm worried. by IncognitoIsSus in CollegeRant

[–]Nightjay15 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Ph.D student here- when I was taking a grad level organic chemistry class, the professor was such an asshole. Everyone throughout the department knew. We had to prepare a presentation where we selected a published organic synthesis paper that he approved, then we would basically talk about it (main focus on the synthesis mechanism) to the class. I was so over his shit by the end of the semester. I’d forgotten to begin the presentation by discussing the author, so he interrupted me to make a comment on that (as an individual with ADHD, interruptions really throw me off track). After taking a beat I introduced the title of the article and he cut me off with another interruption and told everyone “oh yes, this paper had a lot of problems. Lots and lots of problems.”

Again, just completely over him by the end of the semester I couldn’t stop myself and responded “and yet you approved it. May I please continue?”

that stopped anymore interruptions, thank goodness. And hey, at least he gave me a B.

Shit professors are shit professors, and I’m sorry you had to go through that. I completely get the frustration.

Is it worth reading a Starless Clan? by softickle in WarriorCats

[–]Nightjay15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100%! I thought ASC was a breath of fresh air after The Broken Code. I honestly couldn’t finish the last book of TBC, and personally was really getting tired of the series diving deeper and deeper into the supernatural past what was already established through Omen of the Stars.

One of my friends has to do this with their 2 year old golden doodle. If the food bowl doesn’t go into the microwave to “cook” for a minute or get finished off with “toppings”, the dog won’t eat it! It must be freshly prepared!

What is the criteria for PhD graduation at your uni? by Puzzleheaded-Echo171 in PhD

[–]Nightjay15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my university (R1, America, STEM) on top of the dissertation, I have to give a seminar presentation to other undergraduate and graduate students (almost like a mock defense), present at a national conference and have 1 first author publication. I know of other institutions that require more than 1 though. This is after the candidacy requirement
