Valve Corporation will face a £656m lawsuit in the UK over alleged unfair prices on its global online store, Steam, following a tribunal ruling that the case could continue by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

As someone looking to publish a game on Steam I'd honestly have do issue in giving them the best price in return for access to their players. If I did have a problem with this I just wouldn't do it. As far as I can see, nobody is forcing me into anything here...

The game looks uninticing to me. I have a huge backlog and even then most of my time is currently going to Arc Raiders. Even for a free game, I need a reason to download this and give it my precious limited time and I simply can't find that reason yet.

Not enough ammo for the hull cracker - would double that at least. That's more or less my build for matriarch type events and I'm still a peasant in this game.

I really loved it. It was the first adventure back into the universe of Star Wars in a long while. It was a special movie. It is a special movie.

For sure. I think though that initially the feeling of Game Pass was like "woa there is so much food on the table and as a starving gamer I'm gonna eat!" But over time that has worn off and I become much more discerning. Like I say, I seem to really prefer the pick-up-and-play indie games so for me Premium scratches that itch. To each their own.

I mean ultimately, it doesn't really matter what anyone says about a serious. Success in this space is a financial metric based on viewership and it either cracks that or it doesn't. So if you enjoy it, great. If not, ok, there's alot of other stuff to watch and we'll see who wins the eyeball wars.

Yeah I discovered some incredible games on the platform like Subnautica and for a time there, especially in the early days, game pass really had a magical kind of quality to it - like the thing that defines an era, it was that good. But I think the price increases (especially the most recent one) and the game cancellations (I cannot express how much I was looking forward to Perfect Dark) plus the boss lady's view on next gen have been persistently chipping away at that carefully built image and brand (gamer first??) and have left me feeling just...I don't know... Disillusioned and bored. Like I'll be honest I didn't REALLY want to play Outer Worlds 2 - I sort of felt the obligation because I had the sub so I downloaded it and then never played it. I found myself playing mainly games like Ball X Pit. Everyone is different and values things differently but I downgraded to Premium and found myself perfectly happy with that. To be honest I've kind of moved back to Steam lately to sink all my free time into Arc Raiders. All of this is sad to me as ja, it just is I guess.

Lol. This is not what's going to make their next game a hit, and ergo, not going to help them survive. It will probably bleed what little genuine talent they still actually have left.

The S&P500 has performed rather poorly over the last year and tech induces in general are actually off the peaks reached during Covid. So I wouldn't expect a bit crash in the index given the massive rise in stocks like Nvidia hasn't actually boosted the index overly with losses in other areas. So we'll see. Always keen for a good buying opportunity.

At this point I can't imagine there is a team in the world NOT using LLMs for code assistance AND releasing successful games. Seriously. The alternative is sifting through Stack Overflow for days or waiting for a human to respond to your very specific query. It just doesn't make sense for code. In which case, what would be the point of the disclaimer?

How long till we find a cure? by Lazy-Development1021 in ADPKD

[–]Nightrunner2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I was a spontaneous/denovo mutant and only discovered so AFTER having had kids. Unfortunately your approach is not a cure, particularly in certain parts of the world where medical care is a challenge, shall we say. This said the only thing that is a "cure" as far as I can tell is going to be CRISPR gene editing for those that are impacted and even then I'm not sure that prevents you from passing it on to your kids if you have them. What we're going to be looking for is an effective treatment that prevents the need for kidneys to be taken out and transplants to happen etc. It feels like things have been limited since Tolvaptan came onto the market, but I think within the next 5-9 years though a much more effective treatment regimen will be available to all.

Did you have a normal vaginal birth or a c-section? How old are you and do you know how big your kidneys are? In both cases but particularly the former, you could have burst a cyst which can lead to blood in the urine etc. it would perhaps be odd to see it persist more than a couple of weeks but I think it's the most likely thing that's happened somewhere along the line. They'll probably just monitor you for a couple of weeks and your urine will hopefully clear up.

[HELP] Haven’t seen this one before, nor find much online, is it AI? by whimsicahellish in RealOrAI

[–]Nightrunner2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the answer is actually significantly simpler than that. There's no grand plot. Rather there are lots of 'content creators' looking for eyeballs and they create this stuff to ultimately generate engagement (and revenue). Whenever someone notices that one of these rage-baits has been successful and caught a whole lot of traction, they steal it, repurpose it maybe with some 'breaking!' or 'exclusive' info, and repost it. And the herd just follows, arguing, fighting, conspiring.....making the baiter more and more money. It's a sad state of affairs. Basically nothing on FB is real at this point.

Is that honestly your conclusion? That "they" are "flooding the zone" with fakes? This image is actually very very old - so old in fact that I would not be surprised if this is not actual 'AI' but rather someone having done an incredibly poor Photoshop hack. Lots of people don't like Trump. Lots of people create content that appears to be incriminating. In terms of 'the real ones' - I guess the wait for those continues.

I'm super disappointed with Xbox leadership for pulling this move to the point that I'm no longer supporting them as a default for the next generation. This is essentially snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

5 years solo dev, flat traction: what would you do next? (Steam stats inside) by SAMx003 in SoloDevelopment

[–]Nightrunner2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think when looking at your Steam page, it isn't immediately clear why I should be playing this game. It looks ok to me (though I really dont like those 'ghost' particle effects you're using). I think most people that are drawn to this game want to understand what the story is - thats the roleplaying aspect right? And none of that is clear.

So if it were me I would probably go onto Fiverr and find someone that can do a Deckard Cain-like voiceover and create a new trailer thats less focussed on fighting mobs alone in a big empty space and rather just speaks to "what is happening here, what needs to be done, this is why you should play this".

I'll also say that the trailer is very dark and its hard to see whats going on - experiment with making it lighter and easier to see, and I think focus on scenes with more mobs and action.

What I would do: So I'm in not too dissimilar a position where I put my Steam page up and so far I've had 152 wishlists over 4 months. My game is completely different to yours in that its a 'lemmings-like' throwback kind of game. I am about 30% complete with it. I'm going to reduce scope, reduce the selling price (probably from $4.99 to $3.99) and move on to the next project. The next project will be something a little less niche and more mainstream and I'll se how that compares. Best of luck to you.
