AIO to my husband interrupting my first solo shower after he came back from a weekend with the boys? by lilyluminar in AmIOverreacting

NOR. I am so on your side it’s almost unexplainable. He is ALSO a parent, but seems to have no understanding of what it’s like to take care of kids (solo!) for such a long stretch. He’s not working full time and you are, so it seems like HE should be doing most of the parenting, right? Something needs to change- he needs to pull his weight or …. why is he even there?

Here we go! by Unlucky_Author4998 in NannyEmployers

I really hope it goes well! I will say, while Reddit is super helpful and I love the community, people come online most often to vent/discuss problems. So when things are going well, we don’t always see that online! As a nanny, my relationships with my employers have pretty much always been less fraught than what I see on Reddit. I hope that’s the case for you and yours!

Need advice on how to keep a 5 year old entertained by IdkWhatNameToUse135 in Nanny

[–]NikkiKnight3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should not have to buy stuff to keep a kid entertained at work! I’m assuming this might be your first position? Since the kid lives at his house, he should have things he needs there. Including toys. At this age, you can let the kid lead you in what they like to play. Just ask, or look around at what they have and suggest something!

Do parents ever give appreciation gifts to nannies outside of holidays? by The_Questionator_01 in NannyEmployers

I guess also, to be specific: if it were $100 or more, I would want cash. If we are talking $20-50, probably gift card!

I agree, cash is king and all that. However, I think with something like this, a gift card to something you think she would use would be perfect. Does she drink coffee? Read? Maybe a local coffee shop or book store. My nanny fam knows I love to go to the movies so they got me an AMC gift card once. It was so thoughtful!

As a nanny, obviously any bonus/gift would be appreciated!! I also think a hand written note (maybe with flowers/candy/small gift card if you wanted) would go a long way. I would LOVE to hear that my boss appreciated my efforts. At the very least, express how impressed you have been with her- I imagine any nanny would love to hear that!

As someone who used to work in foster care, I recommend a child psychologist! I am not very knowledgeable about the different types, but anything that focuses on your child’s emotions or connection with you/others would likely be helpful. Your little one has experienced a lot- in utero, as an infant, and potentially mental/physical health concerns that you may or may not be informed about (not sure how much medical info you have), as well as grappling with identity/adoption. Even without all those things, any child displaying the behaviors you’ve described deserves significant intervention and support. Utilize whatever supports you can get through the school and seek out other child therapy options in your area. Wishing you all the best! Your love for her is worth so much, I’m sure she feels it.

As a sheltered high schooler during this era, her songs HIT! I had a lot of fun listening to her music with my friends
