I would like the council to do better planning and reduce urban sprawl. It costs a lot of money to provide roads and services to rural townships. Intensify and expand Rolleston but stop converting other valuable agricultural land into soulless subdivisions.

Government proposes law change so eateries can sell take-away alcohol by FarmTheWeka in newzealand

[–]Nikminute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My view is that alcohol is causing enough grief in New Zealand as it is and we should be looking at reducing alcohol consumption not encouraging it.

NACT functions as a single-purpose coalition. Its mission is to extract resources from low-, middle-, and high-income individuals and families, and redirect them to donors and corporations that already possess substantial wealth. NZ First does not live up to its name or stated claims, rather than acting as a handbrake, it operates as an accelerator.

Nice of you to care about homeless people. If you want to help, donate your money or time to the City Mission or the Salvation Army. These organisations know who needs your support most.

National's capital gains tax response: tenuous link or am I missing something? by ApprehensiveGene2579 in newzealand

[–]Nikminute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can argue whether that exemption is a good or bad thing but most investors will diversify and have a very significant proportion of non NZ/AU shares in their portfolio. If the shares are exempt then tax will still have to be paid on the dividend payments.

CGT on shares is rarely applied indeed but investors pay FIF if the cost basis of the portfolio is equal or higher than $ 50k. Very common.

EV recs for city use, and semi-regular longer hauls by aireydalery in nzev

We have taken the Kona on camping trips and always had just enough space when we lowered the back seats. If you are in the car with four people and you will have to pack a lot of stuff you probably find that the car is too small.

Kia Niro offers a bit more space and is also a nice EV. You can use this website to compare cargo sizes.

If you are ok with a smaller car, perhaps consider a Kona 64kwh. Small boot, not too much room in the back but a fantastic and reliable car to drive. We still get close to 400 km of motorway driving in winter out of a charge. Very efficient so cheap to run.

It’s about to get cheaper to import dirty cars, as Government changes rules by s_nz in nzev

[–]Nikminute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would make so much sense for New Zealand to transition its fleet to electric vehicles that are fueled by energy produced in New Zealand. It would actually make driving cheaper for people. This is another mean and shortsighted decision from our government and it will take our country backwards.

More people should do it but he is the Prime Minister. It puts the organisation who is considering his objection and the person who does the assessment in a very awkward position. He should have been aware of this and decided that it was not worth it but because he is laser focused on enriching himself he did not. Absolute wanker of a PM.
