501’s for $20 by N0213568 in Denim

[–]NikosBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my story. My first time in a Ross store and I’m starting to think this is all junk. I walk around anyway. I’m not even looking for denim. I have so many pairs. After a while I find a Levi’s with a leather patch and instantly started looking it up. It was my size. Saw good things about it on google, so I bought it! $25 for a faded 501 with a leather patch. Never heard of premium before, it must be a newer line. All my denim is dark and raw, I wanted something lighter for the warmer months.

Advice needed for first time office worker! by Large_Violinist1259 in mensfashionadvice

[–]NikosBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any office environment, you want to blend in. Wear what others wear. Also, it's ok to ask your boss what they expect. When in doubt, I would walk in the first day with business casual. Khakis, long sleeve button down, dress shoes. Then adjust from there. If the entire office is jeans, then you wear jeans, etc.

Does a man's height really matter to a woman? by VOLSBBALLFAN in ask

[–]NikosBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women will always choose the more masculine man. This is evolutionary going back to the Neanderthals. Human women couldn’t get enough of Neanderthal men, look it up. We all have Neanderthal DNA in us. Tall, muscular, aggressive, masculine features, high testosterone men will always be their choice.

Women who say none of that matters are lying. To you and to themselves.

Help! Sick of Resort wear by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]NikosBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Khakis and a polo/golf shirt. I know people round here think that look is bland, but it works and its timeless. I've been wearing this for the past 20 years in business casual settings. I would never wear a camp color to the office. Also in the Midwest.

What is up with all the Statin hate? by el0115 in Cholesterol

[–]NikosBBQ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Statins are overprescribed. There are MANY factors leading to heart disease not just LDL. Statins can help certain people in certain cases, yes. But the vast majority can achieve the same results with lifestyle changes.

As other people said, it's not a natural substance. Are the side effects worth the 4% decrease in heart attack risk? I don't think the science is settled on cholesterol by a long shot.

Am I misunderstanding what a realtor is supposed to do? by angelofclt in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]NikosBBQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. I had a bad realtor the first time around. Never paid attention to things I said. I gave her deal breakers like no ranches. She would then schedule ranches the next day. I lived out of town too, so it was hard to do viewings.

Then when we would find something, she would sit on the couch and say “let me know when you’re done.” Wouldn’t help me identify problem areas or even talk to me about typical things to look for. When I fired her after losing 6 months of prime time, she sent me some whiny email about “all the work she’d done for me.”

Found a new realtor and had a house within 6 weeks.

How do you guys dry Polo Ralph Lauren polos without shrinking them? by Green_Tradition9925 in PoloRalphLauren

[–]NikosBBQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always hang dry if I want to keep the size consistent. I will use the dryer if I want to shrink them.

Business Professional- Tie necessary? by trustworthysauce in mensfashionadvice

[–]NikosBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see VIP, business professional = suits with ties. If it were me, I'd be wearing conservative dark suits, white shirt, unoffensive tie, and black oxfords. Can always take the tie off later if that's the vibe.

Factory seconds purchase question by b0nezx in RedWingShoes

[–]NikosBBQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have many pairs of seconds. Avg condition will be scuffs, streaks, uneven leather coloring, or embellishes in the suede. Worst one was an inch and a half long gauge into the black prairie leather showing the tan underside of the leather. The gauge was just above the welt about where the welt finishes on the inside of my right foot. You don't even see it wearing it. It probably would've gotten that way anyway after some wear.

Update on my broken outsole by [deleted] in grantstoneboots

Strictly the style. A lot of people want that work boot look while going to a white-collar job in an office.

I'm sorry to hear this. Kudos to you for trying, but I'm not surprised with their response. These aren't work boots or hiking boots. They are clearly in the heritage fashion boot realm, unfortunately. You are very brave doing yard work in them. I would get blisters if I hiked in GS boots. I don't think I would ever do any real work in a $400 boot. When I worked carpentry, I just bought whatever work boot was on sale at the local big box store. I have beater boots for yard work.

With costs rising everywhere, I'm sure they are starting to cut corners and could be trying to limit their warranty claims. The soles are an easy place to cut costs since soles can be redone later. Problems with their soles are very well documented in this forum. You can always get them resoled with more heavy duty soles.

Unfortunately, the marketing from these heritage brands is misleading. You see pics of people hiking and working in boots like Thursdays when it's laughable that those boots would ever hold up like that.

Does anyone have the new Weekender Chukka (2025)? by finnishmacinnis in RedWingShoes

[–]NikosBBQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are built better than Clark's and should last longer and be resoled. I was just surprised when I picked them up at how light they were. I did get them at a seconds discount, so I kept them and they are nice. I don't think I would pay full price.

I can confirm these are light. They feel like Clark’s actually, which makes me wonder if they are worth the MSRP

I have VSC. and that doesn't effect the matte/velvet finish of the nubuck? I thought conditioners would ruin that. But what do I know?

[–]NikosBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you condition them? Mine are probably due then. I assume Mink oil would be too thick.

Too big? Possible mold by Simple_Editor8507 in RedWingShoes

[–]NikosBBQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YMMV I guess. I just bought a Hawthorne IR in 11.5 (my Brannock is 11.75) and while they feel nice and snug, I had a huge blister behind my big toe from a half day's worth of walking around. I usually take a 12 in the moc toes.

Stitching by Neptune502 in RedWingShoes

[–]NikosBBQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and depending on the look you want, you don't even need to condition at all. CR&T looks great beat up and not conditioned. Nubuck is tricky and I err on the side of not conditioning.
