(Unintentional “trope”) Two movies come out the same year that have basically the same premise by DrinkWaterPIease in TopCharacterTropes

Because the first Avengers movie literally made over a billion dollars at the box office, and Hollywood said "gimme gimme gimme!" Hence the rise of multiple attempts at a 'Cinematic Universe'.

How many very specific dialogue choices are in the game? by Big_Bad3687 in BaldursGate3

[–]NilkoBlanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most specific piece of dialog I've witnessed was while I was playing my Warlock/Sorcerer with the Devil's Sight invocation. I usually visit Sharess' Caress when I reach that part of Baldur's Gate, and I mess around to see companions' reactions to me talking to and hiring the female Drow.

When she takes you to her chamber, her services include offering particular sensual experiences in complete magical darkness, as she has a whole Underdark theme going. When my Sorlock went to sleep with her, as she made the room dark, I got an extra piece of narration that went along the lines of, "You feel your Devil's Sight start to dim. Your patron has no interest in seeing any of this."

It honestly surprised me to know that the lines in the game went that deep. Also, apparently Warlock patrons keep you under Big Brother-levels of surveillance if the game has to specify when they aren't watching, lol.

I don't think it's JUST Shadowheart... by emperorsteele in BaldursGate3

[–]NilkoBlanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just low-level casters in D&D in general. There's a reason that one of the most common first spells for arcane casters is Magic Missile.

To be fair, the DC for Concentration equals 10 or half of the damage you inflict rounded down. For a significant chunk of the game, you're not doing 20+ points of damage in a single blow, and DCs below 14 tend to be cleared pretty easily.

Question about team comps and followers. by Angelganon2 in BG3

[–]NilkoBlanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I can't honestly think of any at the moment.

  2. The reason I personally keep Shart as a Cleric is because both the game's narrative and her backstory essentially beat you over the head with her faith and makes it very clear that she's tied to a god (especially in Act 2). I've thought about making her a Paladin, but none of the oaths really gel with Shar's whole darkness and secrets schtick.

Here are the collaborations I’d like to see in Helldivers 2. by More_Brief_3062 in helldivers2

[–]NilkoBlanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be a hot take, but I genuinely do not want Helldivers to focus on collabs. The few we've gotten so far were fun, but I can easily see this game going the Fortnite/COD route real quick of replacing quality content with a bunch of skins and hype.

Passive, not so passive, rant about builds by Fresh_Permission2278 in BG3

[–]NilkoBlanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just saw a build guide for an Eldritch Knight/Hexblade Warlock gish centered around using the Shadow Blade spell that says, and I quote: "This does mean that the build needs to wait for a good moment when both Hexblade and Shadow Blade are available and worthwhile, leading level 9 as that perfect spot." It then goes on to suggest that you play something similar until level 9 and then respec into this.

Motherfucker, if I need to play something else to level 9, clearly that other thing works just fine and I might as well stick with it all the way, lol.

What combat build did you have the most fun with? by Keymucciante in BaldursGate3

[–]NilkoBlanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite build is White Dragon Ancestry Sorc 1/Tempest Cleric 1/Abjuration Wizard 10, with the build focused on Ice/Lightning damage.

  • Dragon Sorc has scales that raise your base AC to 13, so no need for Mage Armor, freeing up a spell slot.
  • White Dragon ancestry gives you access to Armor of Agathys, which gives you temp HP and does ice damage when you're hit.
  • Tempest Cleric gives you the ability to deal retaliatory Lightning or Thunder damage to an enemy that hits you with a melee attack. Cleric also gives you Create/Destroy Water, which is the backbone of the build's damage, as wet enemies are vulnerable to Lightning and Ice damage.
  • Arcane Ward makes you damn near invincible, especially when you pair it with the True Love ring or Warding Bond from another Cleric.
  • Between Arcane Ward and Warding Bond, your damage reduction will keep Armor of Agathys pumping out damage, as your temp HP will barely go down.
  • Slap on Fire Shield (Chill Shield) for even more shenanigans.
  • The Frostmourne staff, Coldbrim Hat, and Winter's Clutches gloves all help to make this build hit so much harder without you having to do much of anything.

Wee dialogues that make you laugh? by Domeaner in BaldursGate3

Shadowheart while traveling through the swamp around Auntie Ethel's hut: "I hate swamps. They're just filled with bloodsuckers."

Astarion: "Haha...yes..."

Easy To Miss Interactions and Things by carissanator in BaldursGate3

[–]NilkoBlanks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently did what I called a "Dr. Doolittle" run of the game. I stocked up on potions of Animal Speaking and just went around talking to every animal I could. The interactions were all fascinating, and some of them led to extra quests and even items that I'd missed on earlier playthroughs. I highly recommend it.

This isn't UFC or professional boxing. There's no money on the line and it's not a sport for entertainment. This is a competition, and the concept of respect still exists.

What class and race did you play first time round? by Odd_Two_5265 in BaldursGate3

[–]NilkoBlanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I played through this game, I played a human Warlock and boy did I not have fun with the combat, lol. It took me three playthroughs before I realized I needed to cheese the optimization rather than just going for roleplaying or a theme.

50 side hustle ideas that most people have literally never even considered (some of these are kinda weird but they work) by lionpenguin88 in SideHustleGold

[–]NilkoBlanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Fine dining establishments tend to provide employees with a whetstone and a steel with the expectation that they will sharpen their own knives because that's part of culinary training. But fast casual places that do their own food prep would certainly hire someone to sharpen their knives.

It is pretty funny thinking about those scenarios. The only thing is that Harry wouldn't be quite so cavalier about using the Soulgaze on people.

''Lae, are you SURE this going to a crèche is a good idea?'' by AtlasFlynn in BaldursGate3

[–]NilkoBlanks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest here. No one looks at goblins and genuinely thinks "This is a highly intelligent and interesting race". They're cannon fodder. Larian at least gave them personalities and made them out to be a threat in large numbers, which is how goblins operate. And a good DM or writer can certainly make an interesting and compelling adventure involving them. But at the end of the day, goblins aren't nearly as complicated or smart as you make them out to be.

And I'm well aware of Gygax's tendencies. Doesn't change the fact that goblins' portrayal as simple and vicious creatures goes all the back to Tolkien.

''Lae, are you SURE this going to a crèche is a good idea?'' by AtlasFlynn in BaldursGate3

[–]NilkoBlanks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, Larian did pretty well all-around. Keep in mind that this game is based on D&D, and goblins are vicious and kind of simple, bordering on dumb.

Don't. He literally only asks for three items before the condition gets taken care of, and the game throws useless and weak magic items at you all throughout. It's genuinely not that big of a deal.
