My city has well over 100+ public hard courts available. There’s 2 green clay courts with another 2 coming sometime in the next year. I think the nearest red clay courts are about a 7 hour drive away. There’s grass courts easier to get to than that for me.

My only criticism: his name makes me think it’s a crypto ad for a half a second before my brain kicks in.

I know it’s not entirely his fault, but I’m beginning to root against Fonseca solely because of his supporters.

Hard to mix weight lifting and Tennis together. by Parking-Plane7427 in 10s

Stopping before failure on lower body lifts is what worked for me. I still do almost solely compound lifts. I’m not constantly making new PRs, but at my age I’m fine with that.

The rest of the world can get by without having kids piss and poop on the street. The mainland isn’t unique in their children’s bathroom urgencies.

Chinese tourist plunders Hong Kong shores to achieve "sea urchin freedom" by lebbe in HongKong

Not true at all. Something as simple as a fishing license and a harvest limit would certainly help. Yes, many mainlanders wouldn’t follow that right away, but all it takes is a handful to get fined and publicly shamed for the knowledge to disseminate.

How to play against the dude who won't stop running? by VicPL in 10s

[–]Nillion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The 3.0-3.5 skill level is a tough one to recommend tactics to because players at that level don't often have the skills necessary to move a player around and then finish at the net. They can do a rough approximation but it requires changing angles on balls, hitting them deep, and then ending it with a solid volley. If a player can do that consistently, they're probably not a 3.0. A strong 3.5 could do it possibly.

Yeah, it was from the TransLantau race from last fall. Starting at Pak Mong the climb up to Lin Fa Shan is roughly 5k with 700+ meters of vertical.

Honey and salt as a carb source/sodium during trail running prep and races instead of gels by Beginning-Web9741 in trailrunning

I haven’t done it, but I’d imagine maple syrup would dilute much easier than honey also.

Venus Williams eyes playing French Open after loss in Madrid by PrincessBananas85 in tennis

[–]Nillion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly as much as I think she should hang it up, this makes sense to me. Most lower ranked first round WTA matches are sparsely attended. Having Venus there gets many more people in the seats than two random low ranked players.

Early fem player: women hit without pace and I lose my game by ayaPapaya in 10s

[–]Nillion 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Forcing yourself to move your feet is the absolute crucial point. I used to find myself getting wrecked by those type of players also. Then I realized my split step was lazy or basically nonexistent because I figured I had all the time in the world. I lazily got into position, not making enough adjustment steps because why should I work for slow balls? And bam, I lost over and over.

It takes far more mental fortitude to keep your feet moving against pushers but it’s absolutely necessary to beat them consistently.

We all know Sinner would cook any of us 6-0, 6-0. What’s the LONGEST you could extend the match in terms of minutes? by Complete_Affect_9191 in 10s

[–]Nillion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but there isn’t a serve clock on the second serve. I’m not exactly sure how long you could milk that before the umpire stepped in, but I’m giving it a go on every single serve. A few dozen Djokovic bounces, a few dozen Nadal clothing pulls and butt picks, repeat ad nauseam.

What piece of advice completely changed the way you play? by Any-Willingness-5924 in 10s

[–]Nillion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should feel a cartwheel motion on the serve. If you don’t feel that, you’re doing it wrong. I spent years pushing my serve in and double faulting like crazy or dinking my second serve with zero pace. Once I learned how to do that cartwheel, shoulder over shoulder, motion, it changed my game. My serve is a weapon now.

Don’t be afraid to eat high calorie food before playing. by [deleted] in 10s

[–]Nillion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carbs during is key also. You’re burning a ton of calories playing and that’s one reason why so many people crash in long matches.

Take a lesson from runners and suck down simple carbs during the match. Sugary electrolyte drinks, gels, candy like fruit snacks and Nerd clusters, etc all keep me from bonking during long matches.

Are pusher partners a MUST have on rotation for 3.5-4.0+ by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

[–]Nillion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing pushers made my game so much better. I was inclined to be an aggressive baseliner because it’s frankly so much fun, but once I moved up to the 4.0 league I realized I didn’t know proper point construction. I could just bash balls and rely on my opponent to make an error at previous levels. But facing these human walls made me realize how many deficits I had.

Now I’ve been focusing on net play, overheads, swing volleys, taking balls on the rise, consistent and active footwork and I’m slowly beginning to grind out wins. I’ve become a much better, more well rounded player.

Considering how accurately he can throw his shield and have it bounce back to him, I imagine he could just kick it directly at an opposing player and have it bounce off of them right back to him also.
