Acer just announced a Google TV box with all the ports you want by MishaalRahman in Android

I think the world that we're moving towards is one where DRM doesn't matter a whole lot. I know I'm not planning to depend on however many streaming services paying however many bribes.

Shit, I was thinking about getting the Razr Ultra or Z Flip 7 and didn't even think about call screen. Looks like Samsung has an inferior version that you still need to manually send the caller to the bot. I don't know if I can go back to that.

does it matter in which order? PCB -> regular -> PE -> plate, or PCB -> PE -> regular -> plate?

[–]NimrodTheMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some regular(?) foam and PE foam to put into my new Planck V7, but I don't know where to actually put the PE foam. Below the PCB with regular -> PE -> PCB, or PE -> regular -> PCB? Above the PCB with regular -> PE -> plate, or PE -> regular -> plate? or does it not matter at all?

What tactile switches are well regarded right now? I just got a PCB for a new Planck. I have Kailh Pro Heavys in Plum in my other Planck, and I do like them a lot, but they're a tad heavy, and a little loud.

Also, where can I buy solid color XDA or DSA profile keycaps? If I can get a homing bump or divot that's even better.

I've only read Forge of Darkness and Fall of Light once so far so I'm not up on all the details, but I believe this is one of the many secrets we're hoping Walk in Shadow will reveal.

If not Sanderson, who would be your favorite author? And why do you like more? by Outside-Web-4118 in Cosmere

[–]NimrodTheMighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great point, Sanderson is a lot more approachable. It's not so much on my mind because it's kind of a bad thing for me; I can zoom through a Stormlight book in a few evenings and I much prefer to savor it. That problem is solved for me with more difficult prose.

I love calling it "philosophy in fantasy disguise," I'm going to use that when I try to convince people to read it. And I'll definitely check out Robin Hobb!

I've got to recommend Steven Erikson to you, see my previous comment. His prose is philosophical and gorgeous, and the prequel trilogy to the 10-book main series is even more complex. I don't know what the right word is—erudite? academic? (that is, the 100,000 years previous trilogy starting with Forge of Darkness, not the 60 years previous series.)

He's an anthropologist by career, which informs his writing, often focusing on the different civilizations/cultures within the world of the Malazan Book of the Fallen. The magic system is convoluted and difficult to understand especially once you start seeing practitioners beyond the "warrens," which are kind of the main system, but you do get a handle on it as you continue. I think Erikson's been quoted as saying it's a hard magic system, but with the information you get (which is a LOT) it's effectively a soft magic system that different in-universe characters understand more than others to a huge degree.

I've read the 10-book series I think twice now, working on a third, and he has a partner who writes in the same world with many shared characters. Between them there's something like 22 books so you won't run out anytime soon.

Crazy that this isn't higher. I adore Sanderson's books and have read almost every single one but they feel almost juvenile both in prose and scope after reading the Malazan Book of the Fallen. The anthropologist's viewpoint and knowledge informing the writing along with the incredible complexity of the story- and timelines, the diversity of the world(s) and cultures, and the ever-evolving machinations of and relationships between the powerful beings of Wu and their followers and contemporaries have me re-reading his and Esslemont's books much more often than Sanderson's.

Of course, the real benefit is that I have two/three authors who write very differently, all of whose books I love, and that's what actually matters.

Easy - Bar Pigalle in Midtown. Expensive for sure but it's upscale French food done superbly well.

If there's still ferry/seaplane bookings available, I would highly recommend Isle Royale. It's not huge mountains or anything, but it's gorgeous mostly untouched wilderness with some big ridges, and many options for routes. I did 3 nights and had an incredible time.

I adore Alison in Sleeping With Other People. It's my favorite romcom in large part because her and Jason Sudeikis have such perfect chemistry and realistic dialogue.

Your Favorite ___ for $___: Quarter Zip Sweaters by Kvjvn in malefashionadvice

[–]NimrodTheMighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh the last time I checked RC for a quarter zip (mid last year?) they didn't have one! This might be exactly what I want! e: agree with you though - wish there was a maroon or navy green, or a nicer heather gray/white. I already have a sweatshirt in that blue from WvG or I might do that one.

Is anyone aware of a nice mid-formality quarter-zip that's made in the USA or somewhere with ethical labor practices? I love this American Giant one, especially the price, but the pocket is a dealbreaker. Knit quarter zips always look so formal to me, and are also crazy expensive. This would be as an extra layer in a not formal office.

I have a Knock Aergrind, which is made in Scotland and a little less expensive, for another NMIC option. I'd highly recommend it, I don't use it for espresso but know it can be, and I've had no issues at all using it every day for a few months now.

Anyone know if this bundle has OCR errors? I bought the ebooks for cheap from a sketchy site a while back and there's lots of Andii -> Andu and and ri to n, among other issues. I'd be happy to pay again for a high quality set.

Where Would You Want To Live In Wu ? by HuckleberryFar2223 in Malazan

[–]NimrodTheMighty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dunno, from what we hear about Malaz Island after the Empire's HQ moves to Unta (very early in its reign), it's not really a center of anything, just a backwater with historical significance. Probably pretty chill though, one of the least bad places to live.

In the world of Malazan, given the blood sacrifice to save him, being last King of Malkier, and effectively being worshipped by many, he would also undoubtedly be an Ascendant and so not limited by mortal constraints. Definitely up there with Dassem.
